B{TINGKAT dinner..which caterer is good?}

hi oily
no i didnt pay them

btw i am planning on meihao too. Do tell me about their food and services.
I am currently pregnant, not sure if i am able to eat all those food.

i had the first meal from meihao last night.
i opt for 4 dishes for 2 pax.
last night we had xiao bai chai, thai style chicken, beancurd, oat battered fish.
it's quite delicious esp the thai style chicken and oat battered fish. portion is just nice to shared with 3 adults as we cook our own rice.
but it's cold when we reach home, need to reheat again.

I'm going to move to a condo with no security guard only an intercom system. Is it possible to do tingkat to such a location if I'm not at home to receive it? Any advice appreciated.

Hi,

Am curious about buffet paradize's premium lunch/dinner. Saw its advertisement on Today's Paper yesterday. It is now known as Mom's Cooking... anybody tried?

i just finished one month of Meihao99 catering. THe food is okay. But we dont like the vegetables. Alot of times its vegetables we uncommonly eat like brinja, mao gua etc. all weird weird vegetables haha.
To me, cos i am sharing with my hubby and son, we ordered 2 pacs not enough to go around.

hi joannelim and those who tried meihao99, do you think their food is suitable for toddlers? Is their portion very small? We are also planning to order 2pax and share with daughter since she doesn't eat much for dinner.

Appreciate any comments, I am trying to look for a good caterer with healthy food.

hi curry,

i juz stopped my tingkat dinner with meihao... i actually ordered 1pax but always share with my hubby, i could say that most of the time their portion is quite big that's y enough for me n my hubby but dun expect to eat until 'very full' lor, and also dun think it's quite suitable for toddler...

hi jess thanks for the comments, will not try meihao99 if it's not suitable for toddler...that's my top priority.

I have tried Tong Chiang (good soup) and mom's cooking... Mom's cooking is very good but super ex... double the price of normal tingkat.

hi maisymouse, is tong chiang suitable for toddlers? Thanks. I am thinking whether I should go ahead and order Mom's cooking to make my life easier, even though it's out of my budget actually.

curry
actually if u are interested in meihao, u can actually take a look at their menu. They update every month in their website.

For my son who is 4yrs old, he doesnt really like the food. In fact me too. We always threw alot of them away leading to alot of wastage, thats why we terminate it.

If your toddler likes soup, then should be ok. Theirs is brewed soup... unlike some caterers...every day the soup taste similar cos they use the same soup stock... I like their fried fish dishes but my husband and girl don't. Mom's cooking has some pretty delicious dishes like cereal prawns, herbal steam prawns, beef kailan etc... dishes that you might order fr zi char store... so can be refreshing after months of ordinary tingkat dishes... just do a trial for Tong Chiang to see if you like their food. One thing about TC, though they are very flexible .. can order like 3 times a week only but they calculate the price pro-rated...so higher than other caterers.

Btw, 2 other good dishes fr Mom's cooking is their HOME MADE ROASTED CHAR SIEW...quite impressive and PAPER WRAPPED HERBAL CHICKEN (huge portion)... their soup is not bad too but I find it salty... tried to ask them to reduce salt but they say can't cos nobody else complain and its cooked as a whole batch... sigh... service wise think TC is slightly better.

Ha, Actually i have tried Meihao before too.. personally I am ok with them... gd service and I don't mind those weird vegetables like brinjal and hairy marrow... but they do use a little MSG...(at least they are honest about it). If you are tired of your regular tingkat... just try it for a change.

hi maisymouse, i just took the plunge and opted for mom's cooking 10-day trial.

Today is the first day. I had fish fillet with tartar sauce, stewed beef, winter melon barley soup, and cabbage and chicken. I ordered for 2 pax and the portions weren't really big but I suppose this ensures we lick up every bit! Taste was ok for us and my gal.

It costs us $21.50 each meal (with rice). They said it's because they have no added msg, use canola oil, and paper containers that are microwavable and env friendly. I like the convenience because dun haf to wash tingkat containers.

The downside is that you don't get any free cancellations at all, so can't have last-minute dinner plans.

But if the food continues to be to our liking, then I might stick with them.

Hi Curry,

It's good that they have 10-day trial now. When they 1st started this premium serivce, they didn't have trial so had to pay for the full month n no idea whether was it worth the the extra $. Ya, the cancellation is so EX! I ordered for 3 pax... if I cancel 1 meal, I would have to forfeit like $13-15! The food portion used to be very big at the start... so much food that the following month I change to 2 pax.. then gradually portion became smaller due to the increase cost etc...

Heh, this is our third day and I think the food is still ok so far, except for the soup which wasn't as good as expected. They have chicken and fish dishes often and that's good cos my gal likes them.

But the problem is with the cancellation if we continue. Have to forfeit half the money each time we cancel. I wish they are more flexible about this since they are already charging a premium.

Which caterer are you using now?

Mom's cooking -do you ladies order the rice too? i saw the website, $15 for 1 pax per 20 days! wow, that's 75cts for the rice! they use premium japanese grains ar?

Actually, I am taking a break now... Did trial with YSL (lousy soup..all taste the same .. and 1 time the soup turned bad... ..initially I thougt it was salted veg soup cos it was sourish but it actually was Gow Gei Soup.... then i realise the meat inside was not thoroughly cooked!!!)and Oliver catering (so so) ...

Looking around again for new caterer in Jan. Anybody has any recommendation?

bbee,

I didnt order the rice... cook myself ... prefer nice n hot rice! Think they charge more cos of the environmentally friendly containers.

Hi there...

Plan to order 10 days trial next week before CNY...lotsa of spring cleaning to do..

So, anyone have tried Le Xin Catering or House of Catering? They claimed no MSG, low salt, low cholosterol...i wonder...pls give me some feedbacks if you have tried them. Many thanks!

Hi pinkie bear,

I tried House of Catering, didn't like the vege dishes, very unappetising thus always end up throwing away. Empire Food serve the same food as House of Catering, though different companies but get from same supplier! So, I wouldn't recommend you.

I would like to give Four Seasons cafe a try. Anyone has feedback on this caterer? Please share. Thanks!

Hi sunshinekids,

Oh...didn't know that empire food is same as House of Catering...empire food also serve lousy food? i have no idea about it! thanks for your sharing!

So my 2 options are out...aiks...wondering which catering to choose now...any idea?

called Mom's cooking, they charge $200 for 10 days trial! found it quite expensive!

How about Meihao? read the above ratings...got some positive answers..

just to share...

just tried jessie catering trial, and it wasn't fantastic. ordered 3 dishes and 1 soup.
the soup was boring, usually vegetable plus ikan bilis. then the veggies, is always stir fried with ikan bilis. Once, the steamed egg came along and it tasted sour. Dun know whether is it spoilt or supposed to taste like that. Anyway, hubby and i threw the whole thing away. couple of times, we ate a few bites and had to throw away the food. its wasteful but we really couldn't swallow it. we were so glad when the trial ended.

now using kim's kitchen, they are so much better! at least, can see that the chef put in effort to cook the dishes, with variety and taste. not too salty and hubby and I lap up every single drop of soup! px wise maybe slightly more exp, but at least everyday go back home can look forward to having a great meal.

Hi JTS:

Is Kim's portion is big? saulty or oily?

Want to take 10 days trial next month. Thanks!

HI Lynn: thanks for your great effort!

i am ordering tingkat food from empire food and it really taste bad. thinking of changing caterer. ordering for old people and kids. any suggestion?

Hi ron,

I hv ordered from empire food before too and agree that the food is really lousy. The food from 'House of catering' also comes from the same kitchen as the menu is exactly the same and food taste just as bad.

I am catering from Kim's Kitchen now. So far quite ok, portion so so not very big.

My friend recommends Tong Chiang Kitchen, she orders for her family of six including her parents-in-law and 2 kids. Too bad they don't deliver to my place.

Hi ron,

Last few months, Jack Delight has catered dinner for me, previously they are Mei Hao, now they changed the to Jack Delight. Portion is quite big and tasty and not too salty.
Service is good too but i have stopped them coz i dont like to stick at 1 caterting for too long will get sick of the taste.

Next week i will receive Kim's Kitchen food for dinner...can't wait to taste ..

hi rosy,

Do you mean it is homecook food without msg? if yes, which area do you deliver to and what are the charges?

Yes Rosy,

Pls provide more details like the areas which you deliver to and charges. Any MSG in food and unlimited cancellations? Menu if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mummies,

Yes, It is home cook food without msg. My mum operate from home and we will cover all areas. Please let me know which area you stay as we are gathering min 10 persons from each area. Will email you for the menu.

thanx..

also, do such tingkat services offer brown rice? i'm just being hopeful here, because it's for my pops so i want it to be as healthy (ie all the usual like no msg, low salt etc and brown rice).

Below is our family view on those tingkats that we have tried
1) Neo garden for 1 year
2) Kim's Kitchen for 1 year
and now the latest is Four Seasons cafe.

Kim's used to be very good until recent months. The soup does not taste as good as before, the dishes also not as nice as before.

Tried Le Xin before using Four Seasons. Conclusion : Bad - Tasteless soup, standard 1 fried dish every day which is oily.

Four Seasons - Been with them for almost 2 months. Conclusion : Nice food, soup also ok although not as good as old Kim's. Overall is good for my family taste
