Hi Mommies

HAve you sent ur babies for the swimming program? am considering to bring my gal (2mths old) for the swimming program..

Hi T_T, we brought out son for a lesson with them about 2 years back when he was a couple of months old, but noticed that they didn't drain out the water in the tub to refill - basically just recycled several times.

Not sure how hygenic that is, especially since babies catch bugs easily & the sessions are not cheap. Am not saying they do that all the time, but go & observe before signing up for a package?

hihi.. Thanks for ur reply.. i will go there for 1st trial.. if everything seems fine den we will sign up the package. if not i will just pay for 1 session (ie $33).. n look at how they do.. if not i can go n buy those blow up portable pool since my parents' place is big enuff to place the pool.. hehe..

hi TT

i'd tried d 1st trial at harbourfront hua xia with my 3mth old bb last time and i must say the aunties there were very inexperienced in handling bb. the moment my fearful bb touched the water the auntie immediately grab his tiny feet and paddled non stop!! my bb cried out loud and after my persuasion to bring him out, they carried him out and removed his swimming pants immediately while carrying him in the air.
i was so mad and asked them why cant they place my wet and cold bb safely on the changing table b4 doing that ... their reply was the wet swimming diaper will drip all over the place!!

if your bb is the brave type than perhaps hua xia could be a convenient choice since parent dont need to get wet gettin into the pool. But than again i find it rather unnatural having bb with a neck float paddling in a small area with so many pair of eyes watching...

i too ever owned a portable pool that come with the neck float but used only twice coz the water consumption is alot for frequent use.

i eventually realised i need to get into the swimming pool with a proper full body bb float and bb and me enjoyed the relaxing time together. ..

HI m&m.. im not sure is it different branch haf different aunties.. i brought my gal to the one at Marine Parade. She was okie with the water as my gal loves to be in water.. she enjoyed kicking. but before i brought her in the shop she was abt to fall aslp.. after the swim, she cried becoz the massage cream was abit cold.. but when i brought her to car in her car seat she fell aslp soundly..

Hi T T

Yes I believe every branch has different aunties. Am glad to hear your bb enjoyed it

Different bb react differently I believe .
I am concerned over the professionalism/knowledge of the aunties in bb care, judging from their replies. It seems that they expect all BB to accept water well forgetting that most bb r still so young and their first time there. They exclaimed it was quite surprising that my BB didn't like it.... I believe most sales ppl will never reveal any unpleasant experience to customers. They will hope that ppl sign up packages.
My upset BB were only in the pool for max. 1 min with all the crying and they still wanna charge me full but later realising the unfairness reduced to half price for the water they filled up in the tub! I gave up arguing with her over this.
I had bad experience there but I believe there r many who enjoyed theirs.

hi..

Sorry to noe that the aunties so unprofessional.. but to charge u full of the price is really unreasonable.. but i think to dem, so long ur baby touches the water, they haf to drain out everything..

after my gal swim in the pool, they drain out all the water n wash the pool before the next baby goes in..

Yes I believe they drained the water... But paying $20 for that tub of water and getting me n bb upset by the whole experience after which they didn't apologise at all.... Than that's definitely not worth it.

I once passed by there n bump into one of the lady employee... She was telling another new client that I am their
customer too...? She definitely couldn't recall my bad experience..... I had to tell the truth and replied her my bb
cried badly during trial.... She was stunned at my reply....

Hi m&m,

I am not too sure of other branches, but the aunties at harbourfront have attitude problem. I brought my son there for a haircut. It seems to me that they are too lazy to move their butts and signal me to the barbershop beside their for their shop. When i insist on having the haircut there, they give a black face. ATTITUDE, will not go back there anymore...

wah.. why like that..? the one at marine parade they haf so mani pple serving just 2 families (ours and another family using big pool). i hope they dun treat us like that during the next visit.. but the other family went a few times n they seems happy too..

Harnor.. N oso depends on different mood that e staff is experiencing at tat point of time whn we r being served.. Quite a headache..

Just sharing my experience.
I brought my then 6 mths old son to the marine parade outlet and was pleased with their service and signed 10 lesson on the spot.
It was when my baby after 4 lessons cried while putting him into the pool that i regretted my decision.
They insisted that this was because i didn't follow the routine to bring him there every week.
I followed and brought him back for another 2 times and he cried again immediately the moment he has his feet in the water so i had no choice but to ask for cancellation.
Went thru several rounds of arguement then only managed to get back $40 worth of products.
Now ds is happily swimming in public pools.

hi snowies

maybe ur bb is tire or not ready to go down yet? i hope my gal will enjoy.. coz i bought the float on my own n brought her to MBS for short swim n oso in bath tub.. she was okie.. but e thing is, bb muz be ready to go into water.. water not too hot nor cold.. after swimming, baby muz quickly be wrapped up.. sometimes she is too eager den i will wrap her up n feed her den wear her cloths..

When my son was 2-3 months old, I bought a swim tub from SMH BP and use that to let him swim. It is similiar to Hua Xia swim tub except it is plastic material and slightly smaller.

Spent about $70-ish and it spoilt after 3 mths of extensive usage (20-30mins of swim daily). After 6mths, I start bringing him to public pool.

I also bought a swim float similar to what Hua Xia is using. and i regretted for signing the package.. coz she can swim in public pool oso.. n e 2nd time i bought her to the babyspa, she dun seems to be keen in it.. but no choice.. already sign n cant waste the $$..

Hi gals,
Just to share my experience. I did sign up for a package at Hwa Xia when my little girl was about 5 month old. The reason why I signed up was because they have warm water and it is in a controlled enviornment.

The outlets I visited are Habourfront and PS (not sure if the PS one is still there). The ladies that I met were very nice.

As for the baby's experience, it differs. If your baby cry even when in the bath tub, you will expect the same when they are at Hua Xia or public pools. My girl loves tub time and water so we signed up. Though we did not finish the package (cos we were too busy to go), my little girl did enjoy the sessions.

We will always place those little duckies on the neck float and encourage her to kick. Just to share that the recommended time to bring your baby is when the child has just woken up from a nap and is not going to be hungry soon. They are less likely to become frustrated and scared when in water. Do prepare your towels and spare clothes and diapers. So that when you baby leaves the water, you have the towels ready.

Also during the first few sessions, it was shorter. The ladies there told me that the bb should be taken out in abt 10 mins to prevent them from being too tired from all the kicking and moving in the water. Gradually, your bb should be able to kick in the water for longer.

I did not bring my ger to public pool until she was about 1 year old. I will prepare warm water/milo for the child to drink after the swim.

Hi Gals,

I brought my bb there as soon as she hit 1 mth old... and i must say now that she is 3mth+, she is still enjoying every session we are there.... and I have never regret signing her up. Looking how happy she is kicking and smiling, really make the $$ all worthwhile.

I agree with snowger, bb feels very alert when she just wake up and has enough feeds.. if not, bb will feel very cranky...

By the way, what is the ideal age to bring bb to pool?

I tried the Hwa Xia when my ger was about 5 months old. got the package, but never finish. cos i realised she will never learn to swim with the neck float.
i started her on infant swimming lessons at 10 months old. there were babies as young as 6 months in her class. she is now coming 16 months and has learnt to hold her breath in water, climb up the pool's wall, and submerge under water for a few seconds. no float whatever required.
i think the infant swimming lessons @ swimming pool is more useful.

I signed up for my son when he was about 9months old. He really enjoyed it during the first time that we were there.. he was laughing and splashing about in the water and attracted a crowd who started asking us if they can take pictures of him... So in the "high" of the moment, I signed up for the package.. lol... end up we only used it 2-3 times subsequently cos either the place is fully booked when we went over(weekends) or he wasn't able to go due to fever from teething etc... Anyway, as he grew older, he resisted the tubs in Hua Xia and instead enjoys being out there in the open swimming pools... I was being persuaded to extend my package expiry date by another 6months for $30..but didn't bother... cos he doesn't want to go get stuck in the tub... lost a bit of money in this deal so.. unless you are really really really sure you can complete all sessions... dun bother..

I've never sent my girl there before.. I think I myself find it wierd and uncomfortable to have a neckfloat and my face dry while the rest of my body is wet haha.. so didn't bother sending her there.

Only brought my girl to pools after she turned 1. SHe loves the water and swimming so far
