Not entitled to Maternity Leave

Hi All, due to my high risk pregnancy I took no pay leave for more than 3 months. I have workEd in the company for 4 years. Now HR is telling me I am not entitled to cos I took more than 3 months no pay leave. Is it true? How can this be so unfair. I mean if it’s not for the high risk I will continue working right.

You can just facebook private message to Lee Hsein Long and identify to him your NRIC and name. His team will only take action and investigate if u declare your identity just to make sure is a genuine person behind the text. Normally his team is very active and will direct this case to the department in charge of this. Most probably MOM but email to MOM will be slow. Not kidding but do use this method to expedite the issue. I dont think is right to treat a pregnant lady this way. Many HR do try their luck. No point arguing with them but just refer it to the authority. 3 months no pay leave is very fair to the employer, normally people will just take HL instead of no pay leave.

Anyway just do the necessary and stay positive n happy with the pregnancy. I'm sure it can be resolved. :)

Thanks for the reply. I took no pay leave before my edd. And they actually say its the same as unpaid leave for more than 3 months n shouldn't be entitled to hospitalisation leave. So its the same meaning for maternity leave. I am really upset and disappointed with whatever they told me. Thanks for telling me this. I actually email to the profamilyleave and I even call their hotline. They say I am entitled to. I am really upset. After working so hard for the company because of this they decide not to pay me.

dont be affected by such .. is not worth to affect your pregnancy :) is just a temporary problem and will be resolved soon i believe. I believe is not a MNC or if it is, probably somewhere screw up. Try get a black and white from whichever authority you approach and maybe show to your HR or something. Maybe after everything, is time to consider a better company. Your team leader or HOD should have "fight" for you or something.

I have ever experience a company that do not allow ML because she is single mom and without a married cert. Very tough period for her but her HOD "fight" with the HR for the ML and they manage to get it for her. It reflects on the company.

Easy :) Focus on the important thing first :)

at least someone is willing to fight for her. Worse is my boss believe in my HR and told me she also study HR so its the same. I was speechless. Seriously when you are at your most vulnerable situation and they step on you.

yeah it happens but positive vibes is important .. my job also in a mess while trying to balance this pregnancy with my job. Feeling so tired everyday. Though my gynae is able to provide me with HL but I cant really absent from my job too. But I keep telling myself baby first, whatever screw up is just temporary. a healthy pregnancy is most important now.

Like i said i think this company you working at is not really worth continue to work for anymore. Just get the gov authority to involve to get the ML, then after can probably just find another job. Dont stress yourself :)

You are eligible for 16 weeks of paid maternity leave if you meet the following requirements:

  • Your child is a Singapore citizen.
  • For employees: you have served your employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months before the birth of your child.
I just surf the site, I believe your HR dont approve the ML because of this. Maybe you can check with profamilyleave. Explain clearly this situation and just do a printout base on profamilyleave , give to your HR. As long as profamilyleave approve that, I dont think your HR will argue any further. Probably they just base on this rules and just blindly follow.

yes already wrote to profamilyleave. Thanks for the help they say will reply me from there. I also trying to stay positive but its difficult cos this pregnancy quite tough. when is your edd?

icic... ya must take care of yourself... ya I heard the covid cases for pregnant woman also increasing. I also scare so went to take vaccine recently. Waiting to take the 2nd vaccine.

Woahhhh first time I heard this!

Horrible! Fight till the end. I don’t think this is right.

I joined feb21 since then I have taken 2x HL (18days) and 2 weeks x MC(5days only cos in between I’m clearing AL too) . I hope I won’t be told that I’m not entitled for 16 weeks too.
