New Job and Pregnant

hello! anyone have experienced or is currently experiencing the situation where you just started a new job and discovers that you are pregnant?

Me..joined new company less than six months lols..

hello kbear mommie! have you announced your pregnancy? i'm only 3 weeks into my new job and i'm on a 3 months probation. i'm planning to let my boss know end of next month when i'm still within my probation and i have a strong feeling that they will not confirm me. :[

Hi jolynn! No choice they all know becoz my morning sickness very bad..already took 2-3 weeks mc lols..

3 weeks really new..my job is high stress n performance oriented, I'm prepped for worst case ie resign becoz I can't work due to bad m/s..

How far along are you? Can't wait till after confirmation to inform?

I am in my current office for near to one year. My boss recently gave me a heavy portfolio as my other colleague is transferring out. That was when I discovered that I was 4 weeks pregnant. I didn't want to tell him then because I wanted to tell him after my gyane confirmed my pregnancy. When I broke the news to him at my 8 weeks, he just said "congrats!". His treatment to me and my other colleague who was previously pregnant is so different. When the other colleague told him that she was pregnant (when she also joined the company less than a year), he took the initiative to inform my big boss and HR. I am quite disappointed by that.

I think I am quite prepared to quit my job too. :(

hello kbear mommie! so how did your boss react to it?

i'm 7 weeks now, and would be about 18 weeks at the time of my confirmation. i think i'll prolly be too big to hide at 18 weeks? plus the fact that i'm already kinda showing now. :\

my job requires me to travel, and it's the busy period during my edd, so i have a very strong feeling that they wouldn't confirm me.

how far along are you now? still no improvement on the morning sickness? hope you would feel better soon!

hello happyjiokzai! i think it's reasonable to be pregnant 1 year into the job! i mean by the time you go on maternity you are almost with them for 2 years already!

how are you coping with the new portfolio so far? is your boss like being especially difficult after you informed him? in my personal opinion, if both your new portfolio and your boss is not giving you unnecessary stress, try to hang in there! it would be so tough to look for a job when you're pregnant. that's why i'm a lil stressed up worrying that they would not confirm me. :[

My boss is kind of a family guy, he has 3 boys! He is sympathetic towards my ms in general but the organization culture is quite breakneck..very soon he will get the stress from his boss and he will channel down to us..ha

Was it a planned conception if you dun mind me asking? Ours not planned, my first one already 5...Henceforth, this 'mis-timing'..but then I cannot regret as I'm already not in my 30s. It is a blessing from God!

I hv got to be frank..your situation does sound tricky..What are your plans if wont get confirmation?

Thanks! My ms is somewhat better. Well, juz somewhat. Stepping into 14 weeks, looking forward to getting to feel 'normal' soon!

hey happy, dun get disheartened so soon! Must be ur pregnancy hormones acting! :p You hv been just given a more substantial portfolio ie your boss must think well enough of you coupled with you hv been working for nearly a year! No good reason to 'dismiss' your performance in my opinion!

Cheer up mtb! Impt to stay positive, optimistic and confident yeah! :)

I think I am the worst case.. I am going to start my new job end Sept and I jus realised I am pregnant. I tot of telling them after 3 months but need to do a X ray for pre employment medical check which I can't be going for. I already signed the LOA. My friends all tell me the medical check is just a formality... I am pretty stressed out from this cos I don't know how to break the news to my new company. My hubby said worse case just be a SAHM 1st. Bb more important... But I want this job too.. hai.

I think honesty is the best way forward. If you are transparent with them straightaway and they reject you, then it's their loss, because it looks like they are not accepting of working mums or pregnant lady.

If you wait till 3 months later to tell them, then they can count back and realise that you are pregnant when u started work and then they will wonder why you never tell them earlier, hence questioning your integrity....

Throw the ball back into their court and see what they say... IMO, you should tell them before u start work....

Thanks dear.. just told the HR and they r pretty supportive. Phew... just mentioned that I still need to pass probation and all. I guess I am pretty lucky with this employer.

hello kbear mommie! glad to know that your boss is prettay understanding. knowing how capable you are, i'm sure he would protect you even if the management pressures him, so dont worry too much!

ours isnt exactly a planned conception; we just decided to let nature take its course, and it happened prettay quickly. :]

i dont think i would be able to get another perm job if i dont get confirmed. so would prolly hafta try to secure a contract or part time position, and start looking again after confinement.

i'm trying my best to not stress so much over this, cause i dont wan the stress to affect the lil bud inside. ultimately, i know that at the end of the day this lil bud is my priority. can only pray for the best now!

My first MC was 3 mths into my new job, then at 6 mths I got pregnant. Luckily, my coy is rather supportive and its a fertile land for pregnancy, any 1 time have around 3 to 4 pregnant women at different stages.
In my coy if we work 90days consecutive, we are entitled maternity leave.

Pregnant is not like we plan will get every time, I think its good to be honest.

Usually when is the best time (in terms of weeks) to tell your boss? Is it okay to tell them like when the bump is very obvious or after your first visit? Will you tell them the due date too?

I told my boss pretty early on becoz my ms was so bad, keep taking mc lols..

Think it's gd to let your direct bosses know sooner in general..after thinking through possible scenarios of course..

My opinion is once you know you should mention to your boss, even if it's not 12 weeks.... because it gives them time to plan for your replacement during your ML and also your boss will understand why if you have to take leave/MC for your medical appointments.

I would prefer not to tell them so early. Coz anything can happen in first tri and I just do not want many people asking me how and why. Just take MC or leave and tell them u are sick, i think it is understandable.

Don't need to tell everyone, in fact, for other people, I even denied it! I only told my direct bosses and 3 very close colleagues.

I have not told my direct boss and even my close colleagues yet. I think if my boss suddenly ask me for travelling, I might have told him earlier. Bcoz my gynae told me not to travelling during my first tri. But so far there is no need for me to tell them earlier, so I just keep it to my family only.

I just joined 1 month and found out I'm pregnant. Boyfriend not really supportive so I guess I'm gg to be a single mom

My company doesn't accept pregnant woman
So I'm really worried
Any other place I can work at ?:(

Boyfriend ask for abortion but I really don't want
and I'm very strict on keeping this child

hi mommymich, sorry to hear about your situation. :[

how far along are u into the pregnancy now? and how long is your probation period? do u think u would be able to wait another 2 months before announcing your pregnancy at work? bcos if u have worked at least 3 months with the company, u would be protected by the law if they terminate u.

stay positive!

I have worked a month and promoted already :(
I'm working at a bar that's why. It's not very safe also . Desperately looking for a part time job

3-4 weeks pregnant

Hi mommymich. Have u tried looking for jobs at the library? Those arrange books type? Or admin? It is true that your current job environment wun b conducive for u n baby.

I'm not sure if they would hire pregnant ladies.
I would try finding but maybe stay at home is better . But if no choice I'll try.
:(

U can get the assistant job if u dun wish to hold the responsibility of a teacher.
