hi mummies , need advice on full / half c - section.. heard that doing half c - section some kind will feel pain.. is it ? Can give some sharing ? Thanks

yes , heard a general ,there will not be anyone allowed to be present in the operating room - no father, family, etc...
some say the epidural does not hurt. Not very sure as im still on my way to concieve.. so anyone of you who done by c section can share with me ?

i decide to awake and simply numbed from the waist down using regional anesthesia (an epidural and/or a spinal block).

As i want to be awake with my hubby to see and hear our baby being born. As i know A curtain will be over your abdomen during the surgery, but i still can take a peek on my baby is being delivered from my belly. Only thing is IS IT VERY PAINFULL ?? Heard that the needle used for spinals is quite skinny too ..

i had c-sec with epidural.

pros -

have your hb with you. u can video the whole birth process and take first photo of baby with cord.

hb can cut cord

you can see your baby immediately and hear his/her first cry *very emo*

cons -

side effects - rashes feeling post natal for 2days. then confinement can't take sesame oil or ginger. *which was ok cause i don't intend to take them at all*

if anasthesist give too much based on your current weight, you may knock out after baby is born for a good half a day. *it happened to me* lol (i didn't know what happened after i took photo with baby n hb) knocked out totally, woke up after 5hrs.

oh ya, when they give epidural, it is more painful than contractions

i cried badly during the jab in my spine. not sure because i emotional abt failure to dilate or really that painful though..
but it's pain for sure... contractions r like menses cramp. epi is like indescribable.. but the pros outweigh the cons for me.

I also very afraid of needles and pain like you do. But when I had epidural done, it was not painful at all... I didn't even feel it when the doc did the epidural. Only when I feel cool liquid flowing down my spine then I know it is done.

it is a very thin n long needle as it needs to reach ur spine. if u really need c-sec, then u have to take it. otherwise general means u miss all the action.

I had C-section with epidural. The epidural was painless for me, I didn't even feel any prick at all. Only knew it was in when I felt numbness.

Only prob was the side effect. I had shivering very badly throughout the op, only stop like 1 hour later, even with many many blankets on me. Then very bad rash/itch on my face for a few hours.

anyone had done under general anesthesia? can u share your experience? where and what they use to knock u out? whats the side effect when wake up, other than pain?

I had a half C-Sect on Oct 2011 at TMC and I believe I was given the spinal block. I felt as if my back was 'stapled' twice by a rectangular/square shape thing with lotsa short needles. Frankly, it didnt hurt at all..

I believe the anesthesist gv me too much coz by the time baby came out, I'm dazed and felt like dozing off. Instinctively, I declined to carry my baby. I'm glad I did that coz I cld hv dropped him in my half-conscious state!

Frankly, the only gripe I hv for half C-sect is when the nurse inserted the cartheter. I think that's more painful than anythg else!! Probably the nurse was 'rough'. Felt like kicking her face! ;p

i tried both. 1st time GA. 2nd time C-section with epidural cos i just had dinner and it was emergency c section. Doc say that he is fearful that the food might back flow and chock if i am on GA.
conclucion: I perfer C-section with epidural. The after effect is better. U dun feel so drowsy and in pain. but u will shiver uncontrollably during the ops. is the effect of the epidural. I keep telling doc that I am feeling cold but he told me is the med effect but give me hot waterbags to warms my face ...

Jesma H.(lusciousd),

I would like to check with you understand that u have half C-Sect... would like to check how did u before and after for hospital? As i will be C-Sect in April 2012.

i have c-sect with epidural. no feel at all. i found contraction pain was tripple than epidural needles. heeehee

i just had c-section with GA. the anaesthetist injected something into my veins and then the nurse put me on oxygen and then i blacked out... did come around till abt 1 hr or so later. i was shivering for a while. the first day, i wasn't allowed out of bed.

i dun feel much pain on the first day. i think the medication was quite strong and made me drowsy. i remember talking to my guests and then a while later, i fell asleep for a few seconds. hahaha...

i think if given the choice, i would prefer epi but my gynae says due to my low-lying placenta, she wanted to be cautious in case of haemorrhage.

Hi all, does anyone has more to share? I'm still in the dilemma whether to go for c-sec w GA or c-sec with epi.

I had fibroid operation couple years back, so I'm fully aware of GA, im as good as went through c-sec but without a baby, and having the operation scar.

I'm afraid epi will be painful, and have side effect. And also will it feel weird to feel ourselves being cut open, tummy being pulled around even though we don't feel the pain? Having hb to cut baby's cord and see baby immediately would be the only thing to look forward to.

I had c-section with epi and there are 2 advantages: as mentioned, your hb can be with you and watch the newborn arrive, cut umbilical cord, take photo of you and bb etc. The second is you only feel some grogginess and not completely knocked out. It means you get to spend time with your bb earlier. The only side effect I experience was nausea but the anasthetician can reduce that during the ops.

The epi was not as painful as I thought. It feels like a sting and shortly after you don't feel anything anymore. Just try to distract yourself when they are injecting you. After the ops, you don't even feel like you have had an injection in the back.

Hi,

I would like to find out but have any of you heard during c section, you can do both epidural and spinal anesthesia?

Hi, I have c-sec w GA done last month and had fibroid operation couple years back too using key hole. I woke up 1 hour later and was able to tolerate the pain & starts SMS friends & relatives. I'm able to walk around by the 3rd day. I think it depends on individual pain tolerant level.
