hi, i can try to organise a get tog end Nov as i head back to Singapore for my vacation and likely to be bk in Shang end Nov. Can you email me your local Shang mobile no and email address? And i will let you know mine then. Heard that Shang is pretty cold now. So please cover yourself and your kids with more clothings...

hi everyone,

is this thread still active?
m going over in aug. wld wanna find out where do most of the singaporeans stay? hubby;s work place is in pudong. the air seems better there as well thou i prefer the shopping in puxi
happy.gif

pls give some advise...
as for school...which school do u guys put yr kids to? i find that the singapore shanghai school is very far away....
i m torned between british or american system...

looking forward to meeting mums............ still in shanghai? :p

Most singaporeans stayed in Pudong and most of the kids there attend ssis as there is a 6:30 am school bus.

August is the hottest month! And my girl somehow contracted molluscum after bathing or soaking in the bath tub. Distressing for me.

hi kangkong,

i usually dun allow my girl to soak in the tub es in a rented place as u never know if the previous tenant abuse the place etc or of the place is too old, the pipe might be rusty? i myself soak in my rented place jus once and got infection as well. so now i avoid it at all cost
sad.gif

u must b stressed seeing the infection on yr girl......
can understand es when she is a girl but i think it will go away but it will take some time
sad.gif

hang in there k

pudong seems like a better place to stay with kids. last wk the air was really bad. mayb it was due to the sandstorm. is yr kid attending SSIS? which campus did u decide on? i prefer minhang's campus n amy is a very gd head of preschool but is seem soooooo far...i dun think my girl or i can wake up so early, hehe

yeah....aug is not a gd time to go over but it seems i have no choice unless i delay... but how long does the heat last?

Yap, came back to treat her molluscum, cost me almost 1k. Yes my girl is going to attend ssis in minhang this August. Came back for 2nd delivery and like what the mothers here did, wait till she is 6 months old then I shall move back.

The hot weather ....last year till early October. Both my girl and I fell sick often with flu and cough. The medicine we brought over from Singapore is not strong enough to overcome the virus there. In the end , we had to take their Chinese medicine.

Hey, anybody can list down what we should bring over?
When I was there initially for 1st few weeks, I had terrible diarrhea for 3 weeks. My body system needs some time to adjust. Anyway, what is the distilled water you guys order? I need to think of what milk powder to feed my girl and what brand of distilled water to mix with.

u don't have insurance coverage to get yr girl treated in SH?
does it mean yr girl needs to wake up early to attend SSIS? how old is she? mine is active, dunno how she can tahan the long journey ...

the meds u brot over, u bot frm PD? or jus over the counter drugs like zrytec? my girl has the flu jab n it doesnt seem to work after 6mths thou it is suppose to last a yr

talking about water. thou the apt we saw has central filter. we thot of getting a separate one by the kitchen sink but the agent in spore said we do not need to boil the water tat has gone thru the filter at the kitchen unless i want hot water. i jus cant register that i do no need to boil water to cool it down. hubby do not trust the water tanks tat we can order for the hse as he said we do not know the source. even when we were at a 5star hotel n drank their bottle water, i poo 3x a day thou i only drank 1 bottle of water a day n consider myself dehydrated.....hence we do not trust the delivered tank water..... mayb the other mummies can give u a trusted one to go to

r u at puxi or pudong?

Hi little twin stars (stardiva) ,

Nope we didn't buy the insurance covergae. kinda of expensive.
My girl is 2.5 months old. We stay out of the town area (qibao area), closer to the school. so will be taking the 7:40am bus. School starts at 8:30am.

yap looks like i need to install a separate filter. just afraid the pipe is rusty. yap i pooed almost 3 weeks when first reached.

btw, can i check how do you all send your items over?

its gd if u stay near the sch. it seems like i'll have to scrap the idea of SSIS as ill b at lujiazui or century park area..actually also considering yanlord town. haha

think for china....better install separate filter es for consumption.

arrr as this is our first move, the company is paying for our first shipping. we have not liaise with the shipping company yet. gotta ask them about milk powder and medicine. i m thinking of shipping a dryer there as i dun like the idea of 2in1 washer dryer that most places provide and its v ex to buy there. as for humidifier did u buy there or bring over? i found one in spore tat has hot steam and cold steam. if there isnlt over there, i will buy it over...m shipping my simmons mattress there too cos jus bot not long. do they have latex mattress there? if not i;ll bring my girl's one over

u can get yr friends or family to help u bring over things if they r visiting u too. that;s wat my sil does. yr bb still v young, if u can get yr mom or mil to accompany u over to help u for a mth or so it'll b best

Hello Kang Kong & Stardiva,
wondering if this thread is still active.
my hubby will be relocating to SHA too from next year. We will be given a trip later in oct to LOOK SEE FEEL for housing/ school etc. Any good advise what to look out for especially in apartment. We most likely be staying in pudong area.

May I know if you are still in SHA ? Will be good to know some singaporean especially with babies or kids.
My boys are currently 4 months old. @ Kangkong - how did you cope with your girl when you first arrive?

Hi Chewy,

Yap in Shanghai now. Struggling with 2 kids but thank God i found an Ah Yi (so called Maid) for helping me out for 5 hours. My first daughter will be going to SSIS nursery on Monday 22nd August , therefore i am free from one child at home.

At first my 8 months old girl was sick and having bad rashes and constipation when first arrived but after a few weeks she is doing fine now. However, recently i think bad weather, she is starting to have cough. .
Anyway , long story short, how do i cope, well, get a maid (ah yi). Everything is good after you have a helper.
Actually if you can read and speak Chinese, they usually have a website for their area to search for Ah yi or any gossipy news within the area you stay.

Pudong is far from where i stay. But there are lots of Singaporeans staying there. If you going to be a SAHM, better install Starhub digital voicemail from SIngapore , so you can still communicate and chat with your friends and family in Singapore. If you wanna surf facebook which is banned in China, buy a VPN online. It really works.

Well, no friends, no family members just kids and hubby. at times can be really boring.

But, not a bad place to live afterall.

Hi Kang Kong,
Hope your girl is feeling better now.
Thx for reverting and the info. May I know if hiring an Ah Yi is easy and if it's day time helper or stay in? And it's average cost.

My twin are preemies and relocating to SHA is stressing me up a little especially with medical follow up or sickness. By Jun 2012, they will be corrected age 1 year old. But I can't help to think if I should move with hubby to SHA or delay joining him.

May I know how did your children cope with the seasonal change especially in Winter?
