hidora
yuo i'm still searching now n then in the net for houses

need u gals help, form 47SK:
no. 52 asking regardibg visa...du we say yes if we ever obtain the tourist visa when we went to perth last yr...cos i couldn't find the visa number....
another question...if my father n brothers who had pas away or divorcee, du i need to have the original or endorse their certificates...TIA

hi (***{o}***{o}***) (ryatie22) ,
The visa number should be in the piece of paper stapled to your passport. For deseased, we just need to indicate, no need to give certs. But I am not sure about divorcee

RE: sunblock and moisturer for babies

which brand do you gals recommend? wanna get 1 for this coming trip to perth.

thanks!

mspiggy
i just bought normal one for sunblock. at watsons. as for moisturiser, my boy has been on physiogel . we stick to it.

mngo,

Thanks for taking the effort to find out abt the water filter! Appreciated it greatly. We will also look into the water filter that mspiggy mentioned. I wondered does it mean more exp = better filtering? *blur*

Which Physiogel are you using? I took a look at their website. So many types. Got cream, got A.I and etc.

mspiggy,

Try to get one without alcohol if possible. I got the sunkiller brand. Major no no. My face is oily but using sunkiller sunscreen dried my skin so much until I can see fine line. Damn scary.

hidora
i am not sure if more exp = better filtering.
the one my fren has is connected to the tap.
i tried. it simply taste like distilled water.

mngo,

Hmm, I see. Er.. not too sure how distilled water taste like.. ;p It's supposed to remove all minerals including floride and etc rite? Do you think by removing all minerals may not be good? Or is it better?

Is physiogel sold in Perth? Can't seem to find any distributors in Aust on their website. My fren who is moving there in Dec is using the entire range for herself and baby. I wonder how many she's gonna bring over.

Hidora and mngo,
thanks for the recommendation. will go look ard. saw the califonia baby ones... seems quite good.

hidora,
regarding the water filter (small one), your hubby managed to find in Perth? I think stores like Target, Big W do carry them.

hidora
distilled water taste plain, and not saltish nor tasted of minerals. but then tasting like it may not mean tat it removes all minerals.

yes i think physiogel is sold in perth. let me chk out again, i'll let you know

mspiggy,

My hb has not started looking at water filter yet. Most prob think he will start somewhere in June or when we moved over.
happy.gif

That's a good idea, perhaps I should also start looking at califonia baby for sunscreen. I'm gonna go check out their spf.

mngo,

Hmm, I see. My fren's hb is suggesting to mixed spring water with boiled tap water to let bb adapt to the oz water slowly. What do you think?

Most prob for baby prod, I will switch to Beauty and the Bee. www.beebeauty.com

I bought their botty balm from frementle to try out and find it to be better than Desitin. But as they contain no preservatives, so once open must used within 4 mths.

hidora
the 2 times i brought my boy to australia - i did not mix water. i think i completely forgotten to do so. and i din realise any difference. he drinks more than 1 litre daily.

but maybe to be on the safe side, you can try to mix it

ladies,
what do you give your babies during travel? i still have not intro much adult food to my boy only porridge fish and vege

do you cook for them?

mspiggy,

We just fed baby with fm and cereal. And when we ate, we will either pass him some rice, or some bread or fruits. Didnt cook for him.

mspiggy
we din cook during travel.

when he was younger... like 14 mths we gave cereal / bread and biscuits + milk.

then now he takes all sorts of adult food

i see... am thinking of cooking for him since we stay in serviced apartments. will see how heavy is my baggage first.

did you gals rent the car seat? travelling with the little one is so different now.

mspiggy,

Yup, I got the childseat. I think they are pretty strict abt traveling without a childseat for babies and children.

mspiggy
i got a car seat. it is a law in australia for kids to be in a car seat.

we rented from europcar
happy.gif
.

at first we wanted a subaru (or similar), but when we reached perth, we were given a hyundai tuscan instead. but is a much bigger car. at same price

Mspiggy,

We first got from Avis as we got lots of baggages and needed a big car. Avis has ready carseat for rental.

Then we switch over to Bayswater, but they do not have carseat. My hb gotta drove to some place to borrow at a rate of $20 for 7 days.

hidora
$20 for 7 days is very reasonable...can give me the contacts....the last time i go i brought my booster seat with back for my 2 yr old dd...cos check with avis the price rent was expensive....

i rent from avis too..we rent toyota tarago cos we got lots baggage...but the next time round i want to try their local company as they said it's cheaper..dunno whether safe...have anybody tried b4???

Hi ryatie,

I will get the contact from hb. But gotta see if he has thrown away the reciept. That contact was given to us by Bayswater, so if you rent your car from them, they will give you the contact of the carseat rental.

ryatie...
last year we rented from thrifty car rental. huge disappointment with their service. as if we owe them money.

this year we rented from euro. better service

hello,
i'm new here, tho not a mommy (yet!), i got my PR last nov and will be going to perth in early may for 1st entry. i studied there for 4 years, so am quite familair with the place. i have a question about fullfilling the 2 out of 5 years thing... does it have to be consecutive 2 years?

Hi shazzer,

Glad to have you here. Where do you intend to stay in Perth? Are you moving with your family or alone?

From the info gathered, it does not have to be consecutive 2 yrs but a total of 2 yrs in 5 yrs. Can someone confirm this?

hidora
u r right. does not need to be consecutive.

but if you go eg one day before your visa expire - then yr 2 yr hv to be consecutive. cos no choice lor. else u wont hv RRV.

Its good to have another member!!

hi,
I have also rented from bayswater. http://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au/. The rental is quite cheap. However, they only carry toyota corollas. You need to arrange for your own car seats. You can get your car seats from

Sydney: Kids Rentals on (0414) 894-666
Perth: Hire for Baby (08) 9274 8788
Perth: Little Hugger Hire on (08) 9387-8546

You need to pay another 16 dollars or something like that if you want to them deliver and pick up from baywaters.

mummies,
do you use strollers or baby carrier when you're overseas?

sorry so many qns... 1st time travelling with baby. very lost! hehehee

mngo,
hmmmm true... yeah have to lug the stroller along. WOW... like moving house for this short trip. hahahaa

mspiggy
hee... but with a stroller it is more convenient it think. sorry for me asking.. if i ever asked before

1) is yr hb pr?
2) r u pr?
3) how long u going to be in perth
4) yr hb working in perth?

mngo,
to ans your qns :
1. yes he is
2. yes i am
3. this is going to be holiday trip.. just 1 week also to 'access' if really going to migrate though our PR expiring in Oct07!!!!
4. nope hubby still in singapore

mspiggy
wah your PR expiring this year and you are still here! If u going to give up your PR - then is a waste....

cos it is tough to get PR now

mngo,
caught in between... supposed to migrate last yr but got preg. although planned for but didnt expect to happen so fast coz not easy for me to get preg!

now i relied alot on my mum's for help so if i'm going now... my poor baby will be left in the infant care and am worried if he's used to it coz he's quite a pampered kiddo.

mspiggy,

We brought along the stroller too. The weight of the stroller is not calculated into the baggage weight so just bring lah. Never know when you need it.
happy.gif

Haha, for our 2 wks stay, we brought along so many things for baby. His 2 bolsters, his pillow, his 2 blankets, his 3 cans of fm, 3 pkts of cereal, his toys, his necessities, his hot water flask, his cold water bottle, his many many clothings and etc.

Btw, do remember to pack all your carry-on stuff according to the new regulation.

http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying/beforeYouTravel/baggageCarryOnCountry#jump0

On the day we left Perth, the new regulation was imposed. Men were walking around informing people of the regulation and handing out ziplock bag. If you never pack your things accordingly, they will throw it away. Each person can only have a 20cm by 20 cm ziplock bag. In the end, we checked in all the items as mentioned.

On the other hand, baby items are fine. I brought up 1 hot water flask and 2 water bottles. (Desitin cream and ru yi oil are packed in the ziplock bag.)

mngo,

Are you intending to stay at home when you migrate over? Btw, when are you migrating?

For me, most prob I will be a SAHM. Childcare in Perth is really exp. The money I earn will most prob end up paying for the childcare.

hidora
yes i intend to stay at home for the same reason as you do. unless i earn tons of money. but tats a diff story lah.

we gave ourselves a deadline to migrate - tat is by 1st quarter 2008. from now till then , my hubby will try to find a job. if till then still no job, we will just move over

mngo,

We actually did a brief calculation and realized the money I earn will really be used for paying childcare.. Totally not worth it. And by not working, I think the govt will give us family assist of like 100+ biweekly (read from some where), plus tax rebate of 1000 plus per yr. So not too bad.
happy.gif

mspiggy, join in the Perth SAHM gang. ;p

hidora,
thanks for the link!
happy.gif

hidora and mngo,
it's much easier for me to a job as i'm in accounting line hence for the time being we need the income else i dont feel secure :p

my frd is sending her kids to childcare which is abt $40+ a day hence i still can get some money left for the households. not totally worthless.

i think i'm greedy... wanted the lifestyle in perth yet also want the comfort of having families near me! :p

hidora,
your case is slightly diff coz your hubby is already found a job! so there's at least income now. Andrea's hubby also found a job already, which makes thing easier.

hidora
i am in the IT field. though the money i earn ... may not 100% go to childcare.. but i guess the idea of SAHM is eating into me. hahaha
maybe i prefer spending my time going to Coles, Woolsworth and sending my boy to school.

mngo,
you decided on perth already? thought you were considering melb or perth.

if perth, which area will you be staying?

Hidora,
where will you be staying in Perth?

My frd is recommending Queens Park (City of Cannington), she said she saw display houses building up now. Usually they do that for blooming estate hence better grab now before all the display houses are up and prices will be soaring high!
