Teena,
My situation was like yours last time.
I was preg with my 1st child and hb also insisted that I gave birth there so that child can get citizenship, cos we're both PR already.
It was all kinda planned , then I had some problems in my 2nd trimester.
Dr said only if I had no choice, then he'll give the green light to travel.
But I wasn't comfortable, so that plan was shelved.
Now, I'm in the process of getting PR for my child.

Like someone said upthread, you shouldn't worry about anything now just yet.
Just start sending in your application.
That itself could take up to 2 years.

Can anybody share with me how long it takes to process PR application. Our profession is still in demand (in skilled professions list),will it help to get PR faster?

hi teena,
In the past, it would be quite fast.Less than 1 year. But now, they are much more stringent, and there is a smaller quota So, tt seems it takes much longer.

teena
no doubt, salary is higher than what you can / may get in Singapore, but you have to put into consideration the taxes, childcare cost, rental repayment, mortgage repayment.

if you ask hopeac, hidora, helena, andrea and i, we prob will tell you how not easy life is over here.

hi teena

I'm not from Hobart but has a friend from there. Very slow but very green. Not very populated too. Weather is also much cooler there. Compared to Spore living, they are world's apart.

After all these comments, what are your thoughts ? Alot to consider, but we have all ben through the same phase.

Manta
I am refering to epping in Melbourne. Wasn't clear in my post, sorry.

A family fren is willing to rent us their place and maybe sell it to us. So wanted to find out some feedback from here.

hi,
Epping is in the north of melbourne. I am not really sure about Epping. Have you seen the property? If you are unsure of the place, why dont you rent it first? The property market may be slowing down.

hihi,
I think i've posted here somewhere sometime ago, gotta catch up with the thread soon.

Anyone knows anything about living in Canberra?
Hubby is going there to take his phd, possibly next year feb. So i'm trying to find out more. Thanks!

hi woofwoof...i'm not sure of ANZ bank ins sg but there's commonwealth bank in sigapore @millenia towers if i'm not wrong...as i know as a tourist u can't open a bank acct in australia as they'll ask for ur tax no or pr visa.

I am an aus pr. Dun know if the aus bank are restricted by bank regulations tat their operating license in sgp is for sgp market only? No openg of aus acct in sgp?

Hi woof woof
As i kno if u open the acct here, still is considered as sg acct and they'll charge u if u with draw in oz.

Why not u open a bank acct in oz when u cum over.
I'm nt sure of other banks in oz, but westpac charges u aud$5 if ur min amt falls less than 2k .They waived it for the first 6mths when ur a new migrant. N they also charge if u use counter service...

hee.. have not been visiting this thread for a long time liao..

good to see u ryatie.. hee hope you still remember me.. so u in Aus now?

time flies.. me n my hubby with my 2 boys have been here in queensland for nearly 2 yrs liao..

woof,
Citibank has sg and australian offices. It is still different accounts and different internet banking login.

ANZ in sg caters for private banking. Minimum amount is 200k.

You can open account with commonwealth bank from sg. But it only becomes active when you show ur 100 points thing in aus.

hi woof,
If e property market is slowing down, then is e economy also gg down with it?

=> Usually the case. But there are talks of Euro money coming in to buy aud dollars and property.

Hi hopeac

wat is 100 points thing?

Any mummies has experience with e aus high comm in sgp for bb pr visa? How long do they take to get e visa done?

hi woof,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_point_check .
If you arrive in australia within 6 weeks, and you open a bank account. I think your passport is enough. You need to doublecheck that.

You also need to provide tax file number, or else your interest will be taxed at 40 percent. Tax file number can be provided later. But when you arrive in aus,
you should do the following.
a) Go centrelink, do your medicare card. This should arrive within 1 week.
b) Get tax file number, takes 2 weeks
c) Open bank account

One thing very important is a local address. Without a local address, difficult to do alot of things like buy a car, register for insurance. Some banks require you to give local address.

Hopeac
thanks for e tips. I am trying to do a checklist of things to do when I arrived. ( I had validated my visa).
But I only have 1month's time, then back to sgp. So am trying to see if there are things tat could be done outside aus, so tat e to-do list in aus is shorter

Haven't been in here for awhile cos been busy (as usual, what's new. Kekeke). Am back in Sg to attend to family matters, going back to Perth in mid Jul.

Teena, got some friends in the same industry/line as you who have moved to Perth where I am now

Woofwoof, I applied & got my 2nd child's PR while we were still in Sg thru Sg's AU High Comm. The process is very easy & quick. Just fill in the form (Visa subclass 105 - Child Migration if I remember correctly), submit with the necessary documents, abt 1-2 weeks time, you will get it.

hi ladies,
anyone here in perth, north of the river side?
looks like i'll be moving over by nov/dec this year.
and will be with my 1.5 yrs old son.
sob, sob, my 2 good friends who were based in perth have moved due to spouses' job commitments.
am now looking to make friends again I guess.
Feel free to PM me.

Athlete
Some of us are in the south.
However i think Piglet lives in the north.
Which part of NOR will you be putting up?

Thanks to Athlete for introducing this page.

Hubby and I are planning our move to Perth. Aiming to get there by May/Jun 2011 so that I can register my girl for Primary school. She is 4 this year. We already got our PR since last year. I would say we were very lucky cos we got our PR in 6 months. Now its a lot longer and tougher.

I was reading the post above and I manage to get a lot of info. Thanks to those who reply to queries. I am looking to reside in Canning Vale, can someone tell me which public school in this area has higher percentage of Australians...I wish to put my gal in a school where there are more Australians if possible.

Jackie
I am living in Canning Vale.
It depends on which part of CV you stay.
The place you stay determines the school your kids go to, so you dont have much of a choice actually.
Basically as long as it is not Rostrata/Rossmoyne/Willetton Pr school, you are safe.
Safe as in = more Aussies.

Jackie,

If you are aiming for schools with higher % of aussies, you are picking the wrong place to stay in. I suggest staying in another place, perhaps more towards NOR.

SOR has a very high % of immigrants. And Canning Vale? Lots of Chinese immigrants. That would roughly answer your question on the % of aussies in the public schools. I'm not saying there are no whites, but the % is not high. It may be a 50% or 33%, seeing there are other races besides the Chinese staying in Canning Vale.

p/s: My son is in a public school in Canning Vale.

Mngo & Hidora,

thanks for the prompt reply. I was suspecting that I may not be able to find a public school with higher percentage of Aussies cos I know there are a lot of chinese living in Canning Vale.

Well, in that case what about schools that focus on academic? Is there any?

And how much do you pay for semi-private schools? I understand that fees for private schools can be as high as $10k a year or even higher so what about semi-private.

What is the acceptable distance between your home and the public school? I understand they go by zoning. So I should pick the school then try to find a home nearby, right?

Jackie
My boy is in a private school. I dont know what is semi private actually. The fees are reasonable. Less than 5k a year.
The 10k a year ones are the top notch and you have to be on their wait list for a few years. These are like MLC,Penhros,Hale,Wesley,Trinity.

As for schools that focus on academic, i am not too sure because that's not in my priority actually. Also if we wanna compare with Sg, no where is the standard anywhere near Sg.

I drive my boy to school because it's in another suburb - abt 10 mins drive away. The other private school near my place is a Catholic one, and it's just next to my house :p. I open my door, i see the school.

Campbell primary is within my zone, and it's like 10 mins walking distance from my place.
Actually if you wanna go to public school, you can pick the school first BUT you cant enroll your girl first because you need supporting documents like tenancy agreement, power or water bills to support your address in that zone.

Jackie,

I agree on what mngo said. If you want academically inclined school, Spore has it. Over here, more into social interactions and outdoor activities. Or take Rostrata/Rossmoyne/Willetton Pr school, these are better primary schools.

I have no idea about semi private. Never heard of it.

My son's school is about 15-20 mins walk from my place. 5 mins by car.

You can always select the school then find its zone to reside in.

Thanks for the replies...

Let me correct myself...when I say academic I don't mean all work and no play. The reason why I ask is because I understand there are some schools which are a little lax in terms of education so mummies end up transferring their child from one school to another. I love the idea of learning out of the books and I know I can find that in Australia.

Wow Mngo, you have a school right in front of you! Haha...that's really stone throw away.

I heard about semi-private schools from a friend.

Jackie
I guess the semi-private schools are catholic schools. Some of them deemed that as Non private cos it's church affiliated. And it's quite cheap and affordable. I know of people paying 500 a year for kindy in catholic sch. But i paid 1.2k a year for a kindy in a private christian sch.

And yes....the school is really near me! I am lucky enough to stay near to that school, BUT my boy is not studying there. lol! Irony right?

Mngo, I think your explanation seems right about the semi-Private schools.

Now the most important thing is for my hubby to find a job first.

Hello mummies, do you mind to share what are the difficuties (if) you faced when you first settle in Perth (or any parts of Aus)?

How many of the mummies here are working in Perth? I read that you can work flexi hours like 9am to 3pm (your kid's sch hrs)...What kind of jobs have such option?

Anyone heard of Caladenia Primary School in Canning Vale? How is this school?

Jackie - i am in the flexi hours.
Hidora's kid is in caladenia
