I saw alot of mummies asking for transfer maids in this forum. This is just to share my story of geting a transfer maid from a mummy here. However, do note that NOT ALL MUMMIES ARE LIKE THAT. Some of them genuinely wanted a good family for their helper. However, its just my luck to encounter one who is not very honest.
My maid of 1.5 yrs left due to an emergency at home. As there was no one to care to help my mum care for my children, I was in desperate need to hire a maid. I started a post in the Singaporemotherhood.
A mummy replied me. I went to her place to interview the maid. She is 39 yrs old with 3 kids back at home. The mummy said she is quitting her job and hence she is letting her maid of 1 month go. The primary duties of the maid is housework and taking care of a newborn.
I asked the maid questions and also told her specifically what she will be doing during a typical day if she is to work for us. Basically, the maid is very free as both my children are in full day CC. I live in a 4 room flat so she only needs to clean a room a day. Sat and Sun she has her own time at home as my hb and I will bring the kids out.
She was only with us for 1.5 weeks. We do not control her. The first day she came to us, we let her call back home. She said she wants to go to church, we agreed to let her go immediately as the church is near our place.
1. She behaves like a block of wood. She saw my toddler running to the toilet and playing with the water in the urinal. She stood there and watched him played with the water (and urine!)
2. She saw my child choking in front of her and yet again stood there like a block of wood.
3. She sleeps at 9.45 pm and wakes up at 5.30 am. After the kids go to school and after she finished her housework, we let her watched TV or sleep. She is able to finish her housework at 12 pm and from 12 to 5 pm she is free. The third day she was with us she hinted to us that when she wss in Dubai and when she was with the mummy, she slept at 9.00 am. I told her that if she is tired, she can always nap in the afternoon.
4. When the maid brings the kids to and fro the CC wih my mum, my mum takes care of the older one and the maid carries the younger one. When she carries my younger boy, she expects my mum to carry things for her and to open the door for her.
5. My mum asked her about her previous employer which was the mummy in this forum. Thats when we realised the mummy lied to us. She was getting rid of her. The mummy didnt even have a job in the first place and she lied to me saying that she is quitting her job.
6. She was such lazy that when she cooks, she refused to use the utensils we gave it to her. She will use the paper plates in my kitchen so that she does not have to wash them.
7. By 10 days, that wretched maid ran away to the agency after asking me for her work permit twice. She ran away in the afternoon leaving my younger boy in the CC and stealing some of my bags. When I brought my kids home, my younger one has unexplained scratch marks on his back. We suspected it was the doing of the mum however, the police officer said that its hard to prove that the maid did it. She complained to the agency that we ill-treated her. The next 2 weeks was sheer hell with trips to the agency and police station.
After working with me for 10 days, I still got to pay for her air ticket home.
I took a risk by getting another transfer maid from the agency. I was her fourth employer in half a year. Thankfully, I got an honest agent. She explained to me the maid's employment history. On the first day she came, my kids said they like her. She has been with me for more than a month now. Of course, I also know better than to trust her or the agency 100%.
So for mummies who are looking for transfer maids here, please be more discerning. I hope none of you have to go through what I had went through.
