Hi memy, HSG test is consider ok. Only abit of pain similar to menses cramp. I did my HSG in April, the process only take less than 10mins.

this HSG test is to determine whether the fallopian tubes are open or blocked and whether a blockage is at the junction of the tube and uterus or at the other end of the tube, done at Radiology Dept by injecting some dye via yr vagina and taking the images. .. like x-ray. This will help the doc to diagnose and whether u need further treatment.
It is not a procedure meant to clear yr tubes.
Don't worry, it is not painful . u may feel some discomfort and some women may bleed a little or cramps after having the HSG procedure. I didn't bleed, don't think i had cramps just stomach discomfort but asked them for a sanitary pad, or bring yr own. look out for weird discharges, if that happens... u need medical attention (rare cases they say).

I didn't hear any horror stories heh (like what? maybe it's good not to over think it) , just went and got it done, so at least I know if my tubes were blocked or not. or right position, etc.
I remember going for a surgery and the day before it I frightened myself by googling all the horror stories. but it all went well.
oh ya, I did read that u shld not try to get pregnant after HSG, wait for at least one cycle. makes sense.

I did twice.
First time July 2016 at Mount Elizabeth, without anesthesia, the result was bad, both tubes block.
Second time at SGH January 2017, with anesthesia(injection and sleeping for 30 min). HSG showed that my both tubes are fine!
During the second HSG doctor cleared one tube with special thin cannula and said that first time it was spasm which showed wrong result.

So I wanted to say, if SHG showed that the fallopian tubes are blocked, it doesn't mean that they blocked, it can be spasm, like it was in my case. Thanks to Dr. Yu Su, she explained this to me and send to repead the test under anasthesia.
I was very disappointed with my ex gynae in raffles and XRay department in ME, they never supposed that.

Yes, unfortunately sometimes it's really the skill of the person diagnosing ... hence it is not just science but art of medicine .
and sometimes they just want to make more $$ . not saying that's the case.

Hi Alishablond, thanks for the explanation too, didn't really thought it could happen like that as well. Was it painful for u the 1st round? So meaning, Hsg test can be inaccurate due to spasm.

I guess i googled too much Lol, & read that some have very bad painful experience , fainted or such things. Read also that the dye is not so good for the kidney
If poss, i would rather not have to do this Early this year, my tcm dr told me no blockage. Can Tcm dr actually know this by checking the pulse? Any1 got real experience?

sorry can't help u there w TCM. I always believe TCM is better for hormonal issues than physical issues. just my humble opinion.
how to know thru TCM u really have blocked tubes? did u ask yr sinseh ?

yes, i asked him as he said he is fertility expert. He said no, but my hormones r out of balance.
How did u resolve ur fertility issue after Hsg?
they didn't find any issue w me then. .. not just HSG, but the standard fertility tests, incl HSG. husband's sperm generally ok, can improve on motility so they gave him vitamins.
I was not paying enough attention to my body, started to use OPK and managed to conceive, twice, but unfortunately ended in MCs.
Still TTC-ing, mine is more complicated issues.

this is just to take an Xray image of yr uterus and tubes, see if have any physical issue. pls see the link posted above.
I guess just tell yr health care provider yr concerns abt pain, they will explain to u better. I think it was more embarrassing than anything...for me. but after a while going through we kinda just get used to ppl prodding u from down there .
Take it easy! May i know which calendar day u in next mon ? I also did the hsg scan in Feb 17, on CD14 at kkh. The doc asked me to avoid baby dance that month due to radiation. I also a series of blood test related to fertility. After that i waited for one month plus to see doc on my hsg scan and bloood test.
With doc recommend me to do SO IUI to improve my chance of pregnancy.

I did all the other blood tests (fine so far), jus left Hsg till the last cos its the most troublesome & costly
My hb sperm unfortunately on the slightly low side, so i gave him some vitamins (urologist just said nothing can be done ). Woman have to do so many tests, while the man complains even if just do 1 test Lolxdo u mind to share wht other issues u have? maybe we can learn from each other

I will do the hsg test on 19 jun and will be seeing the doc on 24 jun. I hope everything will be fine.

not really, hsg procedure takes 5-10 min, the rest is preparation before the test(take off clothes, cleaning).
My secong test was about 1.5 hr, bcz it was HSG &fallopian tube recanalization with sedation anesthesia.
Mean there will have 2 tests and will take abt 1.5hrs to complete the test?
Need to take painkiller? Omg...Mean it will be very painful? I cannot imagine that because I'm very scare of pain.. but the nurse told me, cannot take any medicine b4 the test (from day 1 of menses)
no didn't. really didn't feel much.
the cramp/ discomfort will come after the whole procedure. like menses pain.
I supposed if u are someone who suffers monthly pain, which I have, this is nothing . those who normally don't hv will prob be surprised by the cramps.

Oh...menses cramp, I have it every mth and it's very suffer...sometime I pain until feel like vomit and can't walk, jus wanna lay on the bed...but after the test, the pain will be whole day or a while only like few hrs?
I m done my hsg test today. Surprisingly I don't feel anything, no cramp also

Glad ur ok. After few tests results, finally my Dr said highly suspect i have pcos , so hold Hsg 1st. How to heal Pcos?
What tests did u do? I got a friend also hv pcos b4 and doc gv her med. She was pregnant now. Did the doc gv u any med to eat?

yeah, she gave me Metformin & told me to keep taking till got BFP , i really dun like to take med cos it makes me lethargic or feel ill. 1 year ago, i did the transvaginal ultrasound with another doc but she jus said my ovaries & uterus are normal
i get a 2nd opinion, did Anti mullerian test, which showed good egg reserve + ultrasound. and i also told her so far use opk never seen the ovulation line . So she deduce i have pcos based on all above, the ultrasound showed more than average follicles.Sad.... any1 have any advice?

I think she took abt half yr b4 conceive. Ya I also don't like to take med but still have to eat. Maybe u just need to take 1 or 2 mths then don't need to take already. All the best ya.how long did ur friend took the med b4 conceive?

Hi Ladies, if we only have 1 Fallopian tube then how to check of the tube is strong to conceive again? Has any of u have only 1 tube and manage to conceive again? What was the produce done for u by your gynae? Because my TCM told me need check with gynae which side is the egg and if it's at the strong Fallopian tube side then can conceive if it is at the lost side of Fallopian tube then no point.

Don't be sad, you can get your BFP.
Have you thought abt changing your diet? since pcos is related to insulin resistance? cut sugar/ completely avoid if u can, take complex diet, not refine ones, reduce even things like very sweet fruits (don't over eat, since it is also sugar) and of cos no alcohol. my friend said her pcos went away.
Alot of information online to help , but some medicine may still be needed.
i don't have pcos but i have completely overhaul my diet for this TTC journey. its doable !

Hi grumpet, yes i thought if its possible to go the natural way, its better. I don't take sugary sweet drink, alcohol nor too much refined carbos. Actually i don't even have much of the usual physical symptoms of pcos. But im attracted to chocolate stuffs & fruits
the only other thing is we eat out quite often so the nutrition is less, or have more sugar/ oils.how long did ur fren took to heal her pcos? did she also take medicine at same time?

hello , I think she did but I'm not sure of the details . did yr doc check yr hormones and sugar levels before prescribing metformin ?
I've started to pay alot more attention to what I eat, so much hidden sugar everywhere. Eg Thai food, tomato pasta sauce, ribs BBQ or sweet & sour, all I've cut.

i think im slightly frustrated with the so called specialist gynaes now. No, she did not ask me to check hormones or sugar level b4 prescribe. I enquired if i need to check , n she said i can. Is it check FSH on D3?
My yearly blood test did reveal borderline sugar level when fasting. Means can lead to diabetes in future. I have not taken metformin yet cos im taking antibiotics to clear suspected infection, will finish by tmor. Now u said it, i think i better do the hormone test 1st to confirm everything b4 blindly taking all the drugs
. Cos if after take metformin, the hormone test may not be accurate ady. Pls correct me if im wrong? ..Now im only taking epo (1000mg) during non-ovulation days, folic acid. Boil eys “八 zen" once per mth seems to make my cycle more regular now instead of 1- 2 weeks off before this

to me... if not sure, always good to get 2nd opinion.
I'm taking soooo much supplements lol it's crazy.
can also try to cut dairy and gluten free for a while. good for overall TTC

Hi ladies, so sorry for the late update. So, finally went thru the procedure 1 mth ago & thankfully its not as bad as i thought!
Bcos i was nervous, i did ask for a mild painkiller & took it 45 mins before, despite the Doc saying its not necessary. But turn out its nothing to worry at all I jus felt mild movements when Doc insert in. It felt like a mild period cramp. Important thing is jus relax, take deep breaths n u will be fine.

How much is HSG test under subsidized rate at kkh?
should be $150-200 (roughly based on NUH sub.) u may want to call them to check.
so I just did HSG again today at TMC this time. $288.90.
It was slightly more painful than I remembered. and it's the part when they insert the speculum and catheter to inject the contrast liquid. I said ouch. just take deep breathing. it was bearable. Again, more embarrassing than anything.
few hrs later, still having some mild cramps.
My tubes are not blocked but this new O&G I'm seeing said sometimes ppl become pregnant after HSG. Also, he said could be blocked after MC, so to just check. Anyone has similar story to share ?

I got preg w #1 3mths after I did HSG in 2015... will be arranging to do HSG on my CD 1... I did it in KKH.. I think was abt $150 last time..now I duno..

Any idea if I can do hsg with anesthesia? I am those who will get very tense when doing Pap smear and dont even dare to do vagina scan.

u cant dear.. for HSG must be totally natural.. u cannot take fertility pills during the cycle for the HSG too... must be "organic" lol..

you can ask do anesthesia, I did my second HSG under sedative anesthesia(sleep for 20 min) at SGH, because the first showed that both tubes are blocked, but it was a spasm. Second hsg showed everything is normal.
