Dear Mommies,

I really need some advice. my boy used to sleep through the night ( 10pm to 6am) now doesnt anymore..... could it be really teething? He only naps 1 to 1.5 hr during the day and go to bed by 8.30 to 9pm. We will give him a powerful milk feed + rice cereal spoonful before he sleeps. He still wakes up at 12am, 3am, 6am either fussing or wanting milk.... the worse is he wakes up 6am to poo poo everyday.

Anyone has tips how to handle? I am super sleep deprived.

is he sleeping in air con room? it might be too cold or too hot.. my 16 months old was like that until i realized that he will sleep thru if he had blanket on..

yes, it could be teething or just a habit. Sometimes the child will change "sleeping pattern" Like my girl, when still a baby she will wake up a in the middle of the night. When older, she slept through the night and then after sometimes she will start to wake up again in the middle of the night for milk or just want to sleep beside me (she slept in the baby cot)

If your son sleep in the air-con room, at least wear a long pant and long sleeves shirt (not too thick). I even let my girl wear socks (loose type) to protect her feet from being too cold :)

Another possibility is, he might be too active during daytime.

My SIL's baby woke up in the middle of the night to poo!

yeah he sleeps in air con but always kicked his blanket. my air con only 25 deg C leh.... i also let him wear PJs without socks.
there was a period i let him had PJs on with socks and he devloped fever after tt... not sure if its linked. he can perspire in aircon too :(

You can try adjusting his bedtime to as early as 7 pm. Sometimes the baby is restless because s/he is over-tired, and hence can't sleep well. It seems like right now your boy is sleeping less than 10 hours of sleep (assuming that he doesn't go to sleep immediately upon waking up in the middle of the night) and that's way too little. At this age, the min of sleep required is 12 hours, more if possible. This is crucial for their development.

thanks all for yr advices.... the problem with him is whenever he i sleepy, very cranky.... need to put up a tough struggle before he can fall asleep. especially so during the day o_O

Storelady, it is harder for the baby to sleep when he is over-tired. Try shifting all his sleeping times 1 hour earlier and see if that makes a difference. You may be surprised, that not only is it easier for him to fall asleep, he may sleep for longer periods of time.
