Hawker food and pregnancy

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to hear your input on this. I'm in my first trimester and I have been banned by hubby from eating at hawker centers. He also doesn't want me eating chicken rice (Tian Tian restaurants) because the chicken is put on display and not re-heated (gathers bacteria). What are your thoughts and experiences with eating hawker food/chicken rice/duck rice while pregnant? Would appreciate any feedback because I'm really craving for some!

Generally hawker food preparation should be clean like with the cleanliness grading. If I do eat at hawker which is very rare I only eat at those popular stores that sell out fast and have an A grading.
They use MSGS and preservatives which is not good for us.
I tend to makan home cooked and restaurant food only. But even restaurant food will have MSG so no escape unless it's home cooked :)
Once in awhile is still ok.. That's what the dietician told me at Mt A during antenatal class..

understand ur hb's worry ..cos outside food no matter how good grading, still prepared by ppl we dun know abt their personal hygiene...and not to mention msg or the oil they use etc..

I sometimes also crave for chicken /duck rice..what I do is diy at home...you can get very good and easy recipes online if u search..if u r working then make these during weekends together with ur hb or better still, ask hb to cook for u :pwhile u relax

then again ..well as for complicated dishes like prawn mee/ char kuey tiao/fresh popiah..once a while eat outside should be ok (I eat say once 2-3 weeks)...just be prepared to drink lotsa water later..oh but dun take those chili standing outside (self service ) too much also..those I find hv been standing there for god knows how long..habours lotsa bacteria de..

but all in all..for myself my pregnancy dun come easy as my hb and myself tried for longggg time after many obstacles so we r more paranoid than usual hehe..but I suppose if u take food in moderation and be careful to try 'spot' and avoid 'dirty stalls' ..should be ok ba..

Same goes for me and hubby, this is actually ivf baby so very expensive probably why he is so paranoid haha ty for your advice, I'll look up chicken rice recipes!

lol i eat hawker food almost daily.. cooking is almost a once-a-mth hobby.. hawker food to me is best! of cos to each her own.. my diet has always been as such and my body will just process the food as usual, flush out toxins, give nutrients to baby.. no need to change v much. in fact i increased intake of duck because need more meat in diet. n where to get duck.. only duck rice stalls lo

if he has concerns, same will extend to non-hawker places where the food isnt even visible to patrons (then got surprise visitors like the rats in hotpot.. haha) thats worse
then prob only home cook food will pass

Ask him to cook for u ... That's the best haha.
Won't say cannot eat hawker food lar, just depends on individual. But better to take those cook immediately one like soup noodle, rather than displayed for very long. At least wont come back LS and scared yourself.
