Epidural or Not???

Go for epidural.. I was suffering pain for my 2nd baby in 5cm dilation for so long still in 5cm (thought of not having epi for 2nd baby) but end up I still surrendered. . too pain to endure...after epidural I blamed myself for so stupid to suffer and aft epi dilation took less than half an hour from 5cm to 10cm and I was ready to push...

I gave birth to my first 2 without epidural, or any other form of pain relief. Maybe I did have a higher threshold of pain. Even dilation check I didn't really feel much, just uncomfortable. Hopefully I can go pain relief free for my #3 again soon..

Hi Mummies, does anyone know if you can still take epidural if you have slipdisc?
Before preggy, GP suspected patient to have slipdisc and advise patient to take medication.
Patient does not know the location and then got preggy soon after. So now is worried if can still take epidural..

Hi,

How does it feels like with epidural? I had my #1 with epidural, now considering to opt out for #2. As for #1 when i dilated 2cm i had no feeling at all until my gynae check on me and told me that i have dilated.

The anesthetic told me I got crooked back bone when he gave me epidural which I didnt even realised.
I think they will be able to chk n inject the right area so shd be able to take epi.

I had my two children without epidural, much because the labor was not too long, around 5-6 hours.

For moms who considered epidural, don't feel guilty at all cos as some moms might have shared, their dilations went much faster once epidural is administered. Reason being the body can relax more so baby can ease her way down without us fighting the contractions and stress the mind and body. So, if labor went on way too long, the doctor probably thinks it is a better idea for mommy to take a rest using epidural, let things proceed faster and save energy for pushing.

For moms who considered NO epidurals, but a little worried about own pain threshold, well can try Hypnobirthing. simple theory behind it is that by telling ourselves every contraction is us working with our baby together, it can be nice and beautiful. eg. Imagine every contraction is like a blue satin cloth wrap around the belly and tightening, or imagine a flower blooming, or breathe in and breathe out in a 'J' shaped direction which helps breathing baby outwards... etc. It is possible to channel that fearful thought of contraction pain to become a construction 'sensation'. Just be in your own world and IGNORE THAT MACHINE that measures contractions..YOU are the one who knows BEST what's going on in that body!=)

If you want more support during labor, try engaging a doula or go for hypnobirthing classes. My friend engaged a Singaporean doula, Ginny whom I had attended her hynobirthing class. Absolutely empowering. After the class you will be way more comfortable with the idea of childbirth as you realised there are so many things going on during labor, our body is very much up to the job!

All the best and have a safe delivery!

hi mommies,

i myself is a first-time mom and have been enjoying my pregnancy, even though lately i've been experiencing back pains, specifically on my tail bone and gets easily tired.
i'm 30 weeks along and until this day, i still could not decide whether to get an epidural or not. My best friend had delivered 2 kids and had epidural during her first child but all natural on her 2nd child. She said the pain would be at the point when dilation starts at 8 going to 10, but it will be quick. By 10cm and all ready to push. After the delivery, she said the pain should be tolerable... Hubby then encouraged me not to go for epidural..

I'm still not sure if I can endure the pain, but the nurse informed me to decide when i finally submit my birth plan, because if i give birth during wee hours, there might not be an anaesthesiologist available to conduct the epidural :( (sigh dunno what to do)

I've heard about the hyno-birthing and would like to learn more about this.. I guess i just have to check my pain threshold and see what's best for me and baby. I sure would want to enjoy and participate in the delivery... not the grouchy type of momma. :D

Well... The decision is really up to you.... I was quite clear that I wanted epidural though I have high threshold for pain but I didn't want to go through any at all, thus I asked for it the moment I admit myself to the labour ward... Man, it was a breeze after the epidural. It's a total pain-free labour and I did not have to go through any painful experience after the epidural. (Nt even after it wear off)

However, I do have friends whom was also firmed in their decision that they DO NOT want epidural and would like to experience a natural birth and they live with no regrets at all. Even though it was really painful with all the *#^*]*]* coming out from them but asked if they will do it again, all of them said yes.

There is right or wrong decision be it with or without epidural. Just have to make sure that it will not make you not want to have kids the next time.
