@Esther
I would suggest you call up MCYS, talk to the officer, who handled your case,(or any officer whom you can talk to on MCYS hotline) explain to her about your situation. I believe, yours may not be the only case of such situation. I believe, MCYS could extend the DP for another 3-4 months. There's no harm giving it a try.

Wanted to write about this topic for a fairly long time, but had other stuffs to complete.
<font size="+1"><font color="0000ff"> Reg: Adopting baby from overseas orphanages</font></font>
We too like most of you, wanted to give life to a orphan kid, than paying the agencies, But When we started to narrow down the possiblilities or runt hrough the procedures that we would be going through / time line that'll take for the process to complete, we just gave up the idea of giving life for that innocent soul
We were not singaporeans when we started our Adoption journey. Our homeland country has lots of orphanges, so we decided to go for babies from those orphanges.
The following are some of the ponts we looked for while looking for babies / orphanages:
1. Does the country from where we are going to adopt the baby, permits foreign parents (or foreign residing parents)?
2. Whats the procedure for HSR (compatiable for that country)? Do they recognise the HSR approved by any of the singapore agencies ( As for my country only Touch's HSR is approved. MY homeland does not approve other agencies)
3. Look for the Nation's adoption agency (Centralised agency that approves your adoption procedure).
3a. Register with the orphange / nationalised registry for baby with your HSR copy. It would take sometime for them to match you, with a baby.
4. Look for the procedure for the adoption process.
5. Since we are going to look for the baby all by ourselves from the prphanges, we were certain that the fees that were mentioned in the centralised sites were just a estimated amount ( & we have to pay atleasr 4-5 times of that)
6. Since, the baby is from the overseas orphanage, we must look in to the time taken for the no objection clearance from the government. It would well take a couple of months for the relevant authorities/courts to give clearance for the court procedure.
7. Then, comes the part of the whole process of the adoption proces hearing. Very well it would take atleast a year for the vedict to be given
8. Atlast the baby must get his passport to fly out.
When we did a rough timeline after speaking to a couple of my friends who are still looking for a baby, (we did our HSR together like most of you), whom i belive are still on the waiting list to be matched with the baby..(my son is 20 months old toddler now. We met him when he was just 12 days old) & felt its better to approach a agent to carry on the adoption & save ourselves from the hassle of such procedures.
