Hi,

I would like to get advices on anyone who has Thyroid and was pregnant at the same time.

I got it 2 months ago and on medication but went to checked up last week and was told the thyroid has gone down to it normal range but now I have low white blood cell.

My husband and I have been trying for quite a awhile and went to gynae for check up but not success. I am not sure if it is due to the thyroid I am suffering and also becos of this my menaces lesser from 3 days to 1.5 days.

Any advices pls........

Thank you.

Hi Annie, I had hyperthyroid and was under medication for about 1yr plus before I got pregnant. I was still on thyroid medicine for the first 4months in my pregnancy. Im currently 28 weeks pregnant.
My endocrinologist advises that it is better to treat the thyroid condition, stabilizes it with medication for about 1.5 yrs before we try for a baby. Thyroid condition may affect menstruation and thus affect the chances of conceiving. I actually got off the medication during pregnancy as my thyroid hormones are more suppressed during pregnancy (for the case of hyperthyroidism).
During the treatment, you will have to take medication and do quarterly blood tests to make sure the tsh levels are normal. The periodic blood tests also extend into pregnancy as an approach to monitor the thyroid hormones level.
Don't give up trying for a baby. But it is advisable to treat the condition first.

Last 2 week I went to check my blood test for thyroid and was surprise that it has gone down to the normal range but still need to be on medication.

But also realised that I have low white blood count and DR advise me to come back to check if it is due to the medication. Cos if I fall sick or throat I will tend to have high fever.

Now I hope next month when I go check for my blood test it will be alright.

Cheers.....
Annie

Annie don't worry about the low white blood cells count for the start. If it does drop due to the medication, there should be other medication you can switch to. I understand from the doctor that with low white blood cells count one is more likely to be exposed to infection. But since you are getting a blood test done in 1 month's time, it should be fine.
I'm really relieved that your thyroid hormones have returned to normal after medication. This may suggests that the condition is relatively mild and you would likely spend shorter time treating it.

Remember not to miss taking your medicine everyday and do periodic blood tests. All the best to you! Take good care!
