Hi all mummies,

Anyone experienced brown spotting on a repeated basis? It comes and goes and then come back again. What is the causes of brown spotting? Can anyone give advise?

Hi,

I m experiencing brown spotting on and off.
Previously, I had fresh blood bleed which my gynae suggested implantation bleeding.
If this is not alot, I won't b too bothered esp if you are still in 1st trimester as my gynae did advised brown light spotting is normal after implantation bleeding.
Hope I have helped cleared a little of your doubts.

Hi all mummies,

Tks for your input. I have seen my gynae and she prescribe hormone pills to stabilise the baby and put me to bed rest. So far, the spotting still come occasionally in minute quantity. Im hoping for the best.

Hi mummies,

I'm week 31 this week and in week 28, I got brown discharge and I called my gynae who advised me to go to hospital.
Then when I reached there, they checked and then discovered I got regular contractions (once every 5 mins) & worse I didn't feel anything.
The nurse told me it's dangerous because my baby might be coming out early. I was immediately admitted and put on drip and injected with two extremely painful steriod jab that will max my bb's lungs if to deliver preterm.
Lucky, managed to stop my bb from coming out and was asked to bed rest for two weeks.
So pls take care and if any doubt, Pls always check with your gynae ok?

Yup, I had it during the 1st 12 weeks if my pregnancy. Any spotting during pregnancy cannot be taken lightly and always go back to your gynae.

My gynae prescribed hormone pills for me and my brown spotting would disappear when on the pills but returns when I stopped the pills. So basically, I was on hormone pills for the entire 1st trimester.

My baby is now 3 months old. Take care and be tons more careful, you shod be fine.

I had a similar experience as Ivy.

I'm 33 weeks today and I had spotting on Mon. It's not even old blood, it was fresh red. And when I stood up, I had diluted blood dripping down my legs. What a scare! I immediately called my gynae and she told me to rest and observe for 1 hour.

I had very few spotting within that hour and my gynae called me in for a vaginal check and to monitor baby's heartbeat. Thank god baby is fine and I wasn't having any contractions.

Anyway, I had the same 2 painful jab to speed up baby's lungs development as Ivy and was sent home for bedrest till further notice. I was also given hormone pills to eat one tablet twice a day. The spotting seems to have completely stopped today. I'll be seeing my gynae agn on Mon.

It seems like the spotting is due to my slightly low placenta placement. She had warned me that the bleeding could get worse and to head to KKH straight if it's heavy and I'm before 35 wks. This is because they will most likely do a c-sect for my baby and she'll be place in NICU if she's less than 35 weeks. TMC NICU is super ex!

Please take care and rest well. Do call your gynae's office to get proper advise.

Sorry don't mean to scare any MTB but my SIL shared that she experienced brown spotting prior to her miscarriage during T1. Could be related or not but I think it really pays to be more cautious and to contact gynae for advice. Some of us may be afraid of appearing ignorant or over anxious to call the gynae but they should get alot of such queries and used to it.

Hi

I had brown spotting on and off till 24 weeks. I was even hospitalised at 24 weeks for observation. I was very concerned then.I was on hormone oills for a month but later change to hormone injection. My gynae advised total bed rest, meaning just rest in bed and strictly no walking about. As I have a premature birth before, my gynae was extremely careful with my second pregnancy.

Would advise you to rest on the bed as much as possible. It helps.

I manage to keep my baby till full term. Don't worry too much. Always consult yr gynae and rest well. Stay postive

Msy I know what kind of harmone pills does the gynae gives? Is there any side effect eg. sleepiness after taking the pills?

Hi all,

My bleeding was related to placenta previa major, which is v low lying placenta that makes virginal delivery totally impossible. My condition was detected when I did my 20th week scan. Gynae was hopeful that the problem wld go away as my pregnancy progressed but it didn't. When I was in my 7th mth, I started having brown discharge and my gynae was v concerned bec any bleeding associated with placenta previa is a serious matter. I was ordered bed rest for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, the bleeding returned and this time I was told by gynae to go to KKH in case my cervix couldn't hold the weight of the baby and the placenta, and I went into early labour leading to the use of NICU. Thankfully all was well and I was given 1 mth MC. During that period, I stayed home all the way.

Then one morning when it was 36 weeks + 3 days, I passed out lots of blood when I urinated. I rushed to KKH and was told I was experiencing contraction. The reason why I was bleeding so much was bec the contraction was squeezing my low lying placenta. That morning, I had an emergency caesarian and thank God, everything went smoothly.

So dear MTB, always go to your gynae if you're spotting. In my case, the drama was too unexpected.
