Advice needed - Sarong good for baby?

hi aspialle,
it depends on individuals. my boy doesn't like the sarong. perhaps it's bcos i din put him in during the 1st month. he'll cry when we put him in. anyway, doesn't think that sarong will make babies sleep longer even though a lot of ppl tell me that it's true. My baby is now able to sleep from 12midnight to 7am on his cot whereas I've heard of stories that some babies will wake up when the swinging stops. perhaps u can get electric sarong cradle.

think sarong might not affect the spine if it's used moderately. my eldest sis and one of my friends are a bit hunched cos they sleep a lot in the sarong. My friend now refuses to let his son sleeps in the sarong. Also read somewhere that when the child is older, he/she tends to bend their back to 'rock' the sarong when it stops and this is another reason for backaches.

ya, cannot rock too hard as the baby's skull is still soft.

like what makeupfairy said, the child might drop off or even attempt to climb out of the sarong so it's more advisable to put an additional mattress underneath the sarong.

hope this helps.

thanks

i let my bb sleep in sarong now, he is 2 mth+ , this is the last resort cos he always wake up, sleeps little during daytime.i also hear my frd saying that one of her frd, her child grow up walking a bit slanted cos he slants his body when in sarong. i actually place a layer of blanket underneath hoping it helps

Hi all

Any idea how to wean off sarong? My gal is now coming to 3 yrs old and still insist in sleeping in sarong. She sleeps in sarong very young since 4 mth olds till now.

My won't use sarong for my child, first it is dangerous as spring may snap. Secondly, it becomes a bad habit and when there is no movement (like putting BB on cot) it wld be hard for them to sleep..

Although I grew up on a sarong, I doubt I wld use it for my BB..

I agree with bladers. difficult to wean off due to movement, and it's unsafe. not only the spring may snap but i recall reading reports to say kids actually fall out of them and break their necks/bones.

My girl sleeps in sarong from birth till 18mths when she self wean. Son is currently in sarong too. Only for naps. Night time on bed.

Place a mattress under sarong. The sarong was used by 3 kids before my girl then another 2 more after her now by my son. Still working well. Doubt it will break.

My boy sleeps in the sarong for his naps. At night, he sleeps in the sarong for a couple of hours and then we transfer him to the mattress. You can use double sets of springs if you think your baby is getting too heavy for the springs. I slept in a sarong until I was 2 or 3 yrs old and my parents used two sets of springs. This one only applicable of you fix it to the ceiling.

Hi,

I am indesperate need of help.I am residing overseas and my hse ceiling not able to drill to hang sarong for my twins to sleep in.Where can i get the kind with the metal stand with sarong in SG?I ahve heard from my friend there is also the electric kind.Which is better??Please give me some advice......

hi ahgirl,
You could get the sarong stand and the electic spring in kiddy palance i think.
Or you can search the selling threads in the forum for a 2nd hand one.

Hi cakey,

Thanks. Will ask my friend to go to kiddy palace to take a look then.Is it at any kiddy palace??

Startled thats why sarong is better bcos more hugging, i use sarong and put pillow on her chest in the day, night in the cot with pillow.

yes, i saw the electric spring stand sarong at kiddy palace. you do not need to drill. check it out.

Do not think sarongs are good idea. Because:
1. It hurts spinal (back) development
2. Babies may drop out of sarong (injuries).

Playpen is much better idea!

my bb slept in sarong in day & night since 2mths. but when we saw her sitting up in the sarong, we worried she will fall out as she is so active. just transfered her to baby cot. but she doesn't sleep long in it, and wakes up crying often in the middle of the night. always perspire alot in baby cot. so half of the night she will be placed in bed with us. thinking of trying playpen, as it is cooler than baby cot.

usually i don't shake/rock the sarong. i just put her in the sarong, she will keep turning and fell asleep on her own. becoz i scared very difficult to get her to sleep when we are outside. but my mil (caregiver while i work) likes to rock the sarong till she is fully asleep. she won't listen to me. so in the end, my child still didn't get the benefits of my good intention. maybe she's still not used to baby cot, becoz no rocking.

i heard baby sleep in sarong too early (before 4 months) will hurt their brain development. is that true?

so far to those who let their bb sleep in sarong before 4 months see any impact on the child?

i think it is not to shake to violently lah.

But more practical is that if u put bb in sarong, possible that bb only can sleep in sarong. So, if u go house visiting, bb cant sleep on normal bed and have to carry.

This is what i heard from my friend sis bb when they go visiting during CNY.

i now put my son into sarong as he refuse to sleep on bed in day time nomatter how i make him sleep. if i carry him, he can sleep but once i put him to bed, he immediately wake up n cry.
i was very worry the side effect of sarong to him but if he didn't sleep enough also not good to his brain development... mummy here can someone teach me how?

Yes, sarong is goof for baby. Sarong baby cradle is designed like that to keep your baby secure and safe. Its provide so natural cooling and to keep your baby sleeping all night. The cradle net is being the best for baby to sleep.
