(2011/10) Oct 2011

Hi everyone,

my bb will be 6 mths in 8 days time. trying to learn more here from everyone. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Sterilising

I think i will sterilise until i stop bf? Cuz the milk need to be stored thus i feel need to be clean? Esp i handle alot of documents at work so i think play safe loh.! Maybe when at home, the btls i will nt sterilise. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Cereals.

I prep all happy bellies and happy times for him. But i think his first food will be avacados? Maybe one/two teaspoon everyday. Den 4days later i will let him try some rice cereals. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Say abt sterilizing..my sterilizer spoilt yesterday!! Now I have to boil all my bottles/bowls and spoons. Going to send it to Philips soon.

Bb had apple for 2nd day. So far so good. Am going to try avocado on tues! Really excited.

MILK

sorry mommies. Those who is giving fm.

I have samples for stage 2 from dumex and similac but I think I will stay on with NAN HA 2 so any mommies want the free samples? Can collect from me either morning or evening at tg pagar or at my house (boon lay)

Hi forever81,

Yes, I am still pumping. Quite lucky to have a nice nursing room in office so I can pump. I also pump when I travel...trying to pump as long as I can. So far, my boy on bm and cereal mx with bm.

My boy only drink like 4 times in the day and once or twice at nite.

Pofy, the playmat that u bought, how much n what brand? Am interested [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Gd morning mummies, long time didn log in, busy at work.

sterilizing

I haven been sterilising her items even when she is less than one month, mil says it is too troublesome says singapore water is very clean and she washes it until very clean hence didn use, didn even use boiling water to wash it... bt then again it is up to individual.

Playmat

I bought a LG playmat during the motherhood expo sales for her to roll around and she loves it.

Puree

I have started her on pumpkin puree, so far so good, starting her on apples today.

Forever81: i am still pumping... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Winny:: think we are working close to each other? my work train station is Tg pagar as well... [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

I didn slim down or cut down any KG since jan, sad, weight and size remain the same.

Pofy: the suit doesnt really work, maybe m nt hard working enough, wearing clothes would be better fit, bt taking it out, the size remains the same.

Rejoy28: welcomeback! The playmat that u mentioned, hw much was it and what is e size? Am thinking of buying one but duno which brand/size is better...

Period:

Have a qn to ask - when have period during breastfeeding, is it like normal period (heavy for 3 days) or it's different?

I saw light blood stains bt am not sure if it's period or post-partum bleeding. Currently now it's like e last day of period where a pantyliner is enough...

Hi all, i'm one of the october mummy to a baby girl!

Really exciting to read all your experiences here. My babe is such a small eater that only recently she started driking 4oz per feed. Previously she only drank 3oz.

Hair

My hair has been dropping alot since 3rd month! Cut it short so that the hair piles in the toilet doesnt look as much

Baby size

i think I have a small size babe. She's only 60.5cm and weigh 7kg. We recently bought her an exersaucer and her feet couldn't reach the ground.

Milestone

Baby still trying to turn halfway to her side but still need help to fully turn.

Weaning

Started to feed her with avocado when she was 5 months and she loves it! Mummies should try. A lot of nutritional value in it.

I'm still on full BM. My BB doesn't drink much abt as well.. ytd I let him have a taste if papaya n he didn't like it Haha!

Btw my BB likes to scratch himself - his head, legs until there r scars left behind.. n he also like to scratch me when I'm breastfeeding him. Is tat norm?

Think I caught a virus, whole body aching.having cold and hot chills.seen the doc but no medicine given, just ask me to rest.anyone know if I can still bf my Bb?

My son has a tooth that is coming out, start to see a bit of white coming out.Any advice how to help reduce the pain?does the teething toothpaste help?

Anyone has recommendation which one is better?jumperoo or exersaucer? Wanted to buy the play mat but hse is too small to fit one. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Hi nurul!! Welcome welcome!

Do u just mash the avocado? Do u add any liquid to the avocado?

Hi rejoy28,

I'm working at Southpoint.

My weight dropped but not completely. Can't get rid of tummy and the flesh on my arms.

Hi bubblygeekypig, my bb scratched herself too. Guess its normal? I don't think they meant it prob it's part of growing up..

My bb use her fingers to play with her to tongue too!

Hi Winny

Initially I just mashed the avocado and add in some of babys milk but my girl doesnt seem to like it maybe becos I didnt mash properly. Second time I scoop out the avocado n blend it. Didn't add any milk cos the consistency is very smooth already. And she finished the whole fruit!

Hi forever81,

My girl has already got her 2 bottom tooth out. When we first spotted the tooth, we applied the teething gel n it really helps.

We also bought her baby Einstein musical activity station. Its jumper cum exersaucer cos we couldn't decide on which one also initially so we decided to get that.

bubblygeekpig/Winny

My boy scratches himself too especially his ears till it bleed. We try to stop him from doing it lest it becomes a habit.

Does any baby sleep halfway, will turn and flip to his tummy? My baby did that a few times, and it happened at night. We were woken up by his cries and found him lying on his tummy and with a look of confusion. Can we put pillow beside him and stop him from flipping while sleeping?

creamdonut,

the mat i bought no brand. its like ABC mat but jus that it is plain colour. big piece and join them together. i bought from kiddy palace, i think for 4 pieces i paid less than $20. can buy as many sets and join them to make bigger piece. its not branded but i used it already. thick enough to protect him instead of letting him on hard floor and still fit my budget. : )

rejoy28,

thanks for the feedback on the suit.

at least i can save some money. haiz. i wonder how to get rid of that fat layer too. so tired at end of work day. by the time i settle down after baby is asleep and all the house chores its already near 12 midnight. if i am lucky i can sleep if not i will have the same situation as telez!

telez,

my baby flip in his sleep too. then cry because he is stuck and he has been at this stage for nearly a month. can't flip back himself and yes, i find him lying on tummy super unhappy. i think he didn't know he flip by himself and not by me! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

i won't advise putting pillow beside him. in case he flips but can't lift himself up to breathe or cry. dangerous i think.

i just patiently waiting for him to learn how to flip back. sigh.

scratching.

my baby scratch his own head till bleed. got fingerprint marks. even after i cut his nails also like this and yes, when i latch him, he now will pull my hair and also scratch my breast too. just yesterday morning he bite me. no teeth yet but the gum clamp is very painful!

Winny,

any idea if we can get sample for nestle nan ha 2 to try. i still haven't switch as i still got about 2 tins of nan ha 1 and i intend to let him finish it. should be ok you think?

cereal

mine 2nd attempt just this weekend just past was successful. he finally know how to not push out the cereal. very messy still but very cute because he was very happy. i have passed the cereal to ifc. told them to start only morning.

for how many days then i can move on to lunch and dinner also cereal?

avocado, mesh out and mix in cereal or give separately?

Hi Pofy

When i gave my girl the avocado, i just gave her on its own, didn't mix with cereal. Avocado on its own is nice for babies i think (smooth texture and blend taste). If you want to mix the cereal with something else, maybe u can mix with some vegetables like carrots or peas. I mix my girl's brown rice with carrots and peas. She seems to like it.

Menses - My menses flow was so heavy during the first day that it freaked me out! Subsequently the second and third day reduced by quite abit.

Bf when sick - I am sick too [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif] Caught a flu yesterday. But my gynae advised that it is even more important to continue to bf cos' the antibodies in mummy's body will pass to the baby and hopefully she will not get sick. It works for me - I have gotten sick twice and so far she has not [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Advice needed on stopping milk supply - I am giving my girl EBM but in Apr I am going on a holiday plus changing job. So was thinking of stopping my milk supply. Can advise on what is a good and safe way to do so? How long will it take?

Hi Nurul,

Thanks! What brand of teething gel did u get?

Btw how to continue to latch on when bb starts to grow teeth? Will they bite?

Anyone been for holiday with bb yet?It has been so long since I went for a holiday but now seems like can't just go cos no one look after bb. Want to bring bb along but worry, not sure what will happen.Any baby friendly country?haha! I sound silly asking :p

Winny: you in one of the shipping company there? there have super lots of shipping company.

The mat is bought is Parklon 15mm, large, cost S$180. Different mm ve different price and parklon is cheaper than LG, if the same bt LG would be S$240.

My girl like to scratch herself as well, esp behind the ear and she likes to pull her hair!!! so scared she pull out her hair. She also enjoy pulling my hair... She also turn in circles at night, so when she is stuck, she would cry, this has happened for almost a month.

She doesn has any teeth yet but like what pofy says the gum clamp can be painful.

My menses came in Feb, first day is quite alot then lessen throughout the rest of the days, like normal menses, it last ard 5 days bt it haven come in March and it is late, wondering is this normal, cause i ve irregular menses before preggy, wondering if i should see a doc, any mummies having similar problems?

Nurul,

thanks. i will try out avocado soon. not cheap though. i went supermarket to check out price just now at lunch.

leeoh,

you found new job and going holiday. congrats!

milk supply u can try to reduce the number of times you pump and also reduce the time spent for each pumping session. i think within 2 to 3 weeks, can see big drop already.

foreever81,

my friend a full time stay home mum breastfed her daughter till 2 years old. all teeth out and yes at times they do bite n will bleed. but mummy scarifice.[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

the gum clamp is painful too! naughty babies.

as for holiday, you might want to consult your pd.

i was advised until bb finish 1st year of essential jabs, try not to travel with bb in case catch bug.

menses,

mine same as rejoy28, back to normal flow except irregular. i did check with gynae, she says normal. give it a few months after the 1st flow for our body's hormones to balance up again. also have to take into account new changes to body as we are more tired and also face new challenges in life!

short week this week!

we have 1 more day with baby.

Hi all,

can I check what brand of cereal did u introduce to your bb? I am intending to buy them this weekend. I have heard of Bellamy.

Seems like our babies r more or less e same- scratching till bleed, sharp nails despite cutting, bite when breastfeeding thou no teeth! Haha!

My BB has been sick so I didn't feed him wif cereal yet.. probably will do so this wkend.. but recently he's been crying v badly at nite.. making me so tired!

Same, my ds scratch his ear until bleed. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif] v heartache.!

He also start the gum clamping part when he was 3.5mth old. And usually not when my breast is full or having let down but more becuz the breast was empty. He seems to be those ganchiong type. Must nurse on a full breast. Choke during let down he also nvm. Now he's 5mth still no change. Prefer fuller breast but no more choking. Still bf him on demand to keep supply up when i pump twice at work. 11am/3pm.

Poohchim

I got happy bellies for my son. Its organic.

But will start him on some milky avacado(with bm) first, then nestle rice cereal before introducing him to brown rice which is much higher in fibre. So not so tough on his tummy. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

I haven got menses since i was pregnant till now my boy is 5mth plus. Is it becuz i am heavily bf him? He's latching every 2 hr when awake 3hrly if aslp. :/

Any mummies in oct baby 2011 fb group? I find chatting there so much more easier.! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif])

SLEEP and FLIP

I'm still using the bean sprout pillow over bb body. It's 49 cm long but I intend to make a longer one. It will stop bb from flipping over.

Also, I have been swaddling her from waist below otherwise she always kick her blanket away.

WEANING

so far tried whole grain cereal, apple and avocado. She likes cereal best. Doesn't seem to look happy when feeding her leh.

I have not replace any with milk as I also don't know when.

My avocado is less than 1/4 per feed as mil says it's a lot.

Pofy, Nestlé called me and delivered NAN HA 2 400g sample with some other Gerber products. I have dumex and similac now and I want to give away. If not its so wasted.

When switch to stage 2 must change gradually. What my pd advise is first day or 2, the first milk give stage 2 then the rest stage one. Then followed by first and third feed is stage 2. Increase gradually.

MENSES

came but irregular.

TRAVELLING

I m thinking of brining my bb for a holiday together when she's almost a year but don't know if it will be troublesome. Think have to bring a carrier otherwise how to travel.

Forever81, the teething gel we got is dentinox teething gel. I bring it everywhere we go. Cos we wont know when the pain gonna strike them.

Leeoh

I bf my boy only for about 2mths plus, not enough supply [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif] maybe too stress, then I decided to give up. So what I did to stop is stop the latching and only pump when you feel engorge. I did that for about close to 2 weeks and the milk supply is gone.

Poohchim

I bought Frisco crem when I started him on cereal but I think that is too sweet for babies. Maybe those organics ones won't be that sweet.

TRAVELING

I took my boy traveling when he was 4mths+, depending on your traveling time and where, I think you'll need to plan well before you leave the house. So far we've taken him to places on short and long plane trips. So, both trips I've taken different things along for him.

SLEEPING

I've did sleeping training for my boy when he was 4mths+. I think it was a good thing I did to him though the start of the training was tough but now he sleeps through the night and he don't need to be rock or pacify in order to fall asleep.

TEETHING

So envy, those of your babies who've teeth coming out. Mine still none yet but he's been biting on things a lot don't know if it's because it's coming. When their teeth starts to appear does it mean we can start to make their food a little chunky so they can bite a little?

Hi Nurul, thanks!can it bought from Guardain or Watson? The brand looks familiar.

Hi oilvesyoghurt, can share where did u bring ur bb to? What are the things to plan? How did u train yr bb to sleep? Is it too late to start now for me? My son needs his pacifier and his pillow before he can fall asleep. Will always cry when his pacicifer drops out.We are thinking its cos of his teeth that is coming out.

Hi mummies,

This week has been a Hectic one for us as my mil suddenly fell sick n was bed bounded since Sunday. We hav to take urgent leave on mon n tues. my mil is main caretaker n I forsee she be unable to carry or take care of baby for next few months. Tried letting my mum to take care but bb kept crying n rejecting milk in foreign place.. She became very attached to mil n me. Headache wat to do.

I tried to look for replacement maid n was told I need to pay $488 for agency fees n $4791 for maid placement fee. I would like to ask usually how many months of maid salary we hav to pay in advance ? If I calculate based on maid monthly wage of $430... It means I pay 11 mths in advance ??? Please advise as I need to confirm by today to agency . Thanks!

hi, I am also an oct mom. Gv birth to twins boys in end oct 2011. Am glad to read and share baby knowledge.

Read this article on baby centre.

To reduce the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), experts recommend that you place your baby on his back when you put him down to sleep during his first year. So, even if your baby is rolling onto his stomach, you should still put him down to sleep on his back.

The good news is that the risk of SIDS greatly diminishes before your baby's first birthday. It peaks between the ages of 1 and 4 months and then starts to decline. In fact, 90 percent of SIDS cases involve infants under 6 months of age.

Of course, you'll also want to follow other precautions to reduce the risk of SIDS throughout your baby's first year. Make sure his mattress is firm with just a fitted sheet over it and there's nothing else in his crib – no pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, or even crib bumpers. Don't overheat the room or overdress your baby, and don't let anyone smoke near him.

Forever81

TRAVELING

I've been commuting with my boy between Jakarta & SG before and after my birth(for his jabs). Also to Bali and US. If your bb is attach to something during bedtime/daytime eg. Pacifier, soft pillow or something he likes to hug/play with. You might wanna bring along these for his comfort when going to unfamiliar places for him. I usually bring along extra antibacterial wipes just in case you cannot find a place that you can do washing. For me, I cannot bath him in hotel bathtub so I brought this foldable bathtub(mine can be folded and fit into a suitcase, it is not expensive and I think it really help giving him a nice bath even when it's not home) along, so you may consider it. Hotels usually provides bottled water + they'll have a kettle that you can boil water with. I'll use that for making milk, then if I'm in Bali I'll bring along bottle cleanser + sterilizer(I bought a compact pigeon steam sterilizer, it's perfect for traveling & good thing is its not expensive too, I also use it to travel between Jkt & SG, otherwise you can get tablet sterilizer). If I'm in US(water in US is clean) I'll just use a bottle cleanser. Very important is to always bring along some baby's medicine eg. Nasal saline drops, fever cooling pads, thermometer, antibiotics etc.. I'll also usually bring along baby's blanket, you'll never know when they'll get cold on plane. When on board during take-off and landing, you can let your boy either suck on his pacifier or let him drink some water(release the air pressure in his ear).

SLEEP TRAINING

I don't think it's too late for you to train now if you want to. Though the older they are the harder it gets. My boy used to be like your boy, whenever his pacifier falls he'll cry and we'll have to wake up and put it back for him. Very tiring :p there're 2 methods that I know. I did the cry-out loud method. But you can choose the method you feel comfortable with. I used the below site as a guide and use their method to train my boy and it worked! You can give it a thought. Good luck.

Hi coco - depends on the maids outstanding loan.i paid upfront for my maid 7 mths and now she is slowly repaying back.

Thanks olivesyoghurt for sharing.i'm afraid how Bb will react in an unfamiliar country.btw, do Bb need to be in a car seat when overseas?

Hi olivesyoghurt, u really bring him along to places. My hubby doesn't allow that as he felt that bb is still so young. I would prob wait a few months more but I think it might not be that easy as they should have started solids and must think how to prepare their food overseas.

My baby used to want to suck badly so I already gave up stopping her from pacifier but gradually she became ok. No pacifier needed.

Prob because I put her to bed around the same time everyday and she got used to the timing. She will need pacifier if I put her to bed much later than her usually timing. Then she would cry terribly.

Breakfast

My bb is born on 19 oct so she's 5 mths coming to 3rd week. Any mommies giving their babies breakfast (purée)?

forever81

I think bringing bb to places will allow them to expose and explore things on their own. I read that bb's first to third year is a very important milestone(building their confidence, security, adaptation to people/places etc.) for them though they'll not be able to remember anything. But it helps to mould their personality. So, it'll be fun to see how they react to new places/people. I enjoy seeing him when we travel, he seems to be having fun ;) depending on where you go for the carseat. For our Bali/SG/Jkt trips, I don't bring the carseat(you'll hv to purchase a seat ticket for bb if you wanna bring the carseat onto the cabin) onto cabin but I gate check the carseat. But if I'm going to US, I usually purchase a seat ticket for him so that he can sleep in his carseat during the long flight.

Winny

BREAKFAST

What kind of purée are you talking about? Fruits? Vegetable? I'm thinking of starting him on a 3 meal schedule(my boy is born on oct 3) but don't know how to start. I think they need at least 600ml of milk if they're put on 3 meal a day and it'll be good not to feed them milk and solid in one feed, otherwise they might not finish their meal. So am confuse on how to incorporate everything for him during mealtime also with his nap time.

Winny

TRAVELING

My boy started solids for 2 meal(lunch & dinner) so if I'm going out, I'll bring cereal for him which I can prepare outside(until they turn one yr old, milk is still their main food). Or you can buy those bottled food which you can prepare by just soaking them in hot water to make it warm for bb. For short trips outside(when you're still in town), I usually pre-prepare mash with spinach or some other purée, put them in a food warmer(those stainless steel;zojirushi/tiger) bring them out and when it's time to feed, I'll pour some hot water(the mash might be too thick for them to swallow and you'd need to put hot water anyway) then feed him.

Hi love everyday, I pm you too for fb add [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] thanks !!

Pofy, thanks! Guess we will have to monitor and roll him back whenever it happens. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Coco, hope you have settled the maid's issue.

LoveEveryday, I can't access FB during work but I have also pm you to add me in. Thanks for this. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Think the guideline is to introduce solid in between a milk feed and utimately, to have 1 milk in the morning and 1 before bed, 3 solid food (breakfast, lunch and dinner. My friend was advising me on this timeline:-

- week one, introduce solid food before milk for lunch

- week two, introduce solid food before milk for breakfast and lunch

- week three, introduce solid food before milk for breakfast, lunch and dinner

- week four onwards gradually increase solid food intake until it replaces milk. The texture of the solid also change from really smooth to mashy and lumpy.

Hi

Can I know any mummy here give their baby Enfaclac milk powder? My baby was born on 14 Oct 2011 & is turning 6 month next week, should I switch him to Stage 2 milk powder? The Stage 1 is suitable from birth to 12 month but Stage 2 is for above 6 month so I am confused whether which should he takes after 6 month?

Hi mummies!

Travelling

I took my baby to China after she turned 3 months as we are based there. Since then, she has also travelled twice to HK. She has been a great traveller; we try to stay as close to her home routine as possible. So, she still gets her 3 naps, etc. Surprisingly, she had no difficulty with the hotel baby cots and on some days, slept very well as she is simply tired out by the new sights and sounds.

Challenges

1) can be difficult to bathe her in the hotel room toilet.

2) my baby is still on full bm diet so no need to prepare food, etc

3) we used only the stroller ( though the streets in HK can be very bumpy)

Hi telez, I und that solid food cannot replace milk leh. Milk is still the main source of food.

Hi mee & you,

May I know which hotel u stay in hkg. Convenient?

Hi mummies,

Anyone of u tried Heinz bottled food for baby yet? I've tried a few for my girl and noticed that most of them has got sour taste especially their pear puree. Too sour wont b good for baby right?
