i've got a sleepy head for the 1st month, hence he'll drink and sleep. i've got to try to wake him up when he doze of at the breast to check whether he's full or just that he's dozing off to sleep. he does lick his lip etc but when he's so call full he'll refused to latched on again. do try to offer the other side of the breast when u empty one side to make sure he had enough.

i've gotta diagree with what kiki's friend suggested on not drinking too much water. i try to drink a cup of water b4 and after feeding on top of the longan/red dates drink. we need to replanish lots of water, i happen to get very thirsty during my bfg days. don't think water will dilute the milk supply as milk is produced in the milk duct unlike fm. soup and fish does help in increasing the milk supply, in my humble opinion

oh, so drinking water for you is ok? i'm also not too sure (i'm 1st time mtb like jul also), am just repeating what my gf told me lor. she is very petite in size and very small cup size (though i heard its got nothing to do with milk supply..). but her supply is like WHOA! whole freezer bursting with EBM! so of coz i willingly to listen to her advise lor. hope i'd be able to achieve successful breastfeeding like her too.

hi, drinking water is fine, actually strongly encouraged by the nurse that came to do home visiting thingy at that time. we need plenty of liquid in our body so that there'll be sufficient liquid to produce bm. actually any liquid will do, be it water, longan drink, soup, juice, fresh milk, soya milk, milo etc. i fig cos traditionally during confinement, confinement nannies usually don't allow taking water only the longan drink hence they come up with the no water cos will dilute bm saying. jmho

for me it actually feels flat as compared to b4 feeding and ds refuse to latched on the same breast (i find him a little frustrated) and willing to latched on to the other breast.

Don't give up. My baby takes 1 hr to feed every 2 to 3 hours, so its really tiring!
She sucks, then stop and rest, then suck and stop again...initially, she will spit out the nipple after 10 mins, then refuse to drink...so I'll burp her and give her another breast, and she will latch on to the other breast and start drinking again!

Yes, if she does still stick out her tongue, I will keep on switching breast until she is satisfied.

She has a weird drinking pattern, but well, at least she drinks well and poo poo a lot now! so at least i know she is getting the nutrients she needs.

Yes, must drink A LOT of liquid.

Oh Yes! Congrats Mommies!

I'm Estimated 2 weeks away from My Edd.

Been feeling really tired... And yes, Am still working... ( The Auntie Is GONE Finally ) =3 Sometimes when it gets crowded ( Like just now ) I bumped my tummy on the corner of the counter, and now I'm feeling bruised there. >.<

Having slight sore throat and flu... Think it's because my air-con in the bedroom has been hotter than the fan and I've been sleeping in just my lingerie... And me eating chocolates to satisfy my hunger at night caused this sore throat. =(

Anyone think it's likely for me to get W K Tan to deliver for me in Mt A? Did anyone ask before? I am still disturbed by the service at TMC.

allio mommies.. back from gynea chk-up in the morning and afternoon "walking" trips =)
at 39 wks already .. bb at 3.134kg.. gd weight ( thot he gonna b over 3.2kg..), head still down =)
my edd 10 sept; doc asked me want to admit tonite and deliver or wait and see nex wk... if wait then see him nex tues if by then still no "news".. then he will want me to admit on 9 sept and deliver on 10 sept (my edd).. by induce bah... so i say wait lo.. hopefully by "naturally" cause to admit hosp..

starting to tell bb to come out (on this sunday)!!

i still not sure if the contractions are coming or nt.. or is it real... sighh..

Maybe it's not the air-con but us who're feeling hotter and hotter. Initially I tot my room air-con is faulty too but turned out it's just me... my hubby is freezing in the nite while I complain that the air-con is spoilt

Take care abt your sore throat... very "critical" period now, can't afford to fall ill wor.

Heh. Actually my HB also agrees the Aircon is haywire.. Lol.. I am actually very afraid of the cold. In the car, HB likes to put the aircon to 18-19degrees. I'd be nagging.. =3

I agree with camomile3 that mommies should actually drink more water and not less. If you're dehydrated, what is your body going to use to make milk huh? BM is essentially liquid lor. In any case, you'll probably get very thirsty very often, so drink up! I almost DIED trying to live on red date tea when I had #1. In the end I gave up and went back to good old plain water.

When breast is emptied out, it will feel saggy/flabby. Easiest way is actually feel your boob with your hand after a feed. Then compare with the other boob that bb hasn't suckled on yet. Then you'll feel the difference!

Wah, I salute your patience! If my bb takes so long to BF, i sure end up screaming at him.

K is also capable of taking his own sweet time switching between sleeping and suckling, so I gently pull my nipple out from his mouth, make him think that he's slipping off the nipple, then he'll start to suckle hard again. Very scheming, and gotta be careful when pulling otherwise will kenna sore nipples, but it's the only way I can force him to finish up!

He also has a habit of finishing 1 breast, then refusing to take the other. Then after burping, and having an alert active period of 10-30mins, he'll then ask for the other breast. So I still gotta be on standby after each feed, in case he wants to "top up" his feed.

bfeeding is indeed not easy esp for first time moms. but at least now there is forum, internet and what others have u to get more info. during my first breastfeeding days i had nothing n i suffered tonnes from lack of info.

dun get discouraged ok. it will cause u stress which is the biggest hindrance to milk supply other than not hvg enuf rest. in my opinion, go ahead to supplement if u feel the need to while building up ur supply slowly. cos a happy baby makes a happy mother and only will u be able to enjoy ur motherhood journey. imagine gettg so stress just becos of low supply during ur early days of motherhood, really not fun lor. dun feel condemned. if u cannot tahan u supplement with one fm a day then cont to latch / pump n build up ur supply then slowly cut the fm feed when u feel its no longer necessary. there is really no hard n fast rule ok as long as it doesnt stress u up. this is my opinion lah. all the pro bf moms pls dun bash me ok

every newborns have erractic feeding pattern so u r not the only one here. my baby wants to leech on my breast all the time. my older kids were never like tat, esp its only on day 2. what to do, just preservere lor. i can assure u they will develop very good schedule by 3 mths, some earlier. so hang on ok. u can make it!

as for drinking water part, a lactation nurse once did tell me that besides drinking lots of water, we also should drink lots of soup n juice cos water is just water while soup contains nutrients and i rem she did say that soup will thicken our milk though she didnt say water will dilute our milk. in any case breastfeeding dehydrates us so naturally we will look for water after feeding. v thirsty lor!

Here's my birth story

1 sept - went gynae appt, brought my #1 along becos she wanna see her meimei then also can bring her for a hair cut while i enjoy a hair spa treatment.
( during the routine check, gyane sae baby's head is very low and water level also getting lesser. He expecting baby's arrival within tis week)
after hearing what gynae sae, told DH i want to eat Coca Steamboat just in case i pop tonight. DH sae ---- find excuse to eat oni.

- reached salon while #1 is having her haircut suddenly i feel little wet hence go toilet check. realised it was oni discharge so cant be bothered. Continued wif my hair spa treatment - the stylist still joke wif me, wah wash clean clean then tonight can go deliver ord.
- half way my hair treatment, i started feeling tightening in every interval of 10 - 15mins. Cant be bothered again as i experienced the same tightening a week ago.

-6pm, tightening got more intense, think is contraction. call DH to pick me and #1 as we are still dd our last min shopping.

- 6.30pm, DH came then we go ta bao dinner and headed home. OTW way hm seems like contraction is lesser aldy so decided to monitor again before heading to the Hosp.

- 830pm, contraction came back again. stronger and nearer abt 8-10mins interval. Packed hospital bag then go shower.

- 10pm - still hesitating if i should admit. called the hospital (admission) to check if i admit before 12am issit consider a day? The lady mentioned if i admit now, tml 11am will consider a day, if i admit after 12am, Thursday 11am will consider 1 day.

- 12am, time to admit myself but before that crave for tau hua so DH brought me to geylang to ease my craving.

- 1am - reach MT E, go into delivery suite and strapped to bed, CTG shown irregular contraction - then a yaya papaya filpino nurse( new staff)did VE for me sae - u oni dilate a tiny finger and irregular contraction. don't think you in labour. requested her to call gynae - she came back with a attitude face sae your gynae want to keep you for observation.

2am- 5am - The same nurse came in and out kept saying no contraction, oni tightening and stomach so soft how come you in pain. She showed me a picture ask me to describe my pain level from 1-10 so i chosed 5 then she gave me a silly smile.

5.30am - requested her to do a VE for me then she sae need not cos Doc coming soon. then i asked if i can get epi - then she gave me a passing remark - tightening only - nobody take epi during tightening. I was irritated by her words then i even wonder issit i falsed alarm how come she kept saying I'm not in labour.

630am - went pee then 'show' came, informed the same nurse then she asked me ' brown or red' and when i was trying to described to her then she repeated herself loudly - i asked you 'brown' or 'red' then i answered 'red'
she went out probably called gynae then she came in to insert liquid for poopoo.

715am - water bag burst,press bell. another nurse came in and i requested her to do a VE on me as my pain in getting very annoying. She checked 5cm dilated. I asked for epi then she sae seems like i will give birth soon ( app 2hrs) double cfm if i wanna go ahead wif epi - a strong contraction came by and i was speechless for awhile tears rolled dwn. The nurse looked at me and i sae yes, dun wan endure anymore.

8am - epi injected - wah relieved

Dr came in checked 6cm ord - est give birth before 11am. DH woke up ( he was sound aslp thru out and didnt noe i was suffering so much)
11am - got a urge to poo and push - mid wife got ready, gynae arrived. after 5 super hard pushes .... here comes princess ----- finally.

Note : heard my gynae feed back
to the staff nurse regarding the yaya Filipino nurse - saying that she is lack of experience as she kept telling my gynae that my contraction not strong on CTG monitor and not ready for labour. Luckily patient didnt go hm if not she will have to come back again. Please get her to be more alert. ( i secretly asked the nurse then she sae that Filipino is a new nurse just joined 2 weeks ago ---- wah pau that Filipino nurse thought she still in Philippine meh. She is wking in SG and yet still dare to be so yaya papaya)

Personally I feel that the idea of pro-BF is not about persisting against FM, but trying our best to provide BM for the baby. If the situation is causing mommy too much stress & worry, thus taking the joy out of parenting (as well as BFing), then I feel there's no point in persisting lor. Afterall, the whole reason why we wanna BF is because we want happy healthy babies! If baby is underfed, confirm not happy nor healthy lor. And if mommy is so stressed over BF, baby can also sense it, and likewise also won't be happy.

Basic rule of thumb, I feel, is to give it our best shot. If really cannot then really cannot lah.

wah that nurse v irritating leh, if its me i would scream at her. totally unsympathetic. bet she is not a mother yet! wait till she becomes one. actually the nurses at labour wards play a very important role in making our labour more enjoyable hor.

if the nurses had called my gynae earlier, i would have saved many hours of labour being strapped in bed! after that shelled reminded me why i didnt call gynae myself. *slap head* yah lor why i so stupid!!!

anyway glad all is well with u. u should be discharging tomo, same as me?? ur gal looks so alert!

just to share my experience on BFing...last time i also had difficulty in latching, ok with left side, but my girl seemed she didn't like my right side. also had problem to wake her up to feed. then cracked nipples were bleeding, so painful. i pumped and MIL commented how come so little and so thin. the elderly kept saying BM not enough to fill baby's stomach. so i thought of supplement with FM, but hb kept encouraging me to continue total BF. so i tried latching and pumping at the same time. it took some time to build up the supply. after 1 month, i pumped most of the time so that can give my gal one big bottle to tahan longer. then i also could monitor the amount she drank every day.

just to add some more of my experience on BF-ing... my gal slept through the night at 3+month old, then i still had to wake up in middle of night to pump, else scared i will "explode" the next morning... erm, actually "explosion" was not really the concern, i was more scared of the pain from engorgement and block ducts. sometimes my friends asked me to go out without baby i also didn't dare to stay out too long, coz scare no place for me to pump when i felt full. also had to sqeeze in time to pump at work, lucky there is nursing room in my workplace. but there were a few times i had to pump in toilet as i had to work outside office. really not easy...

just to add some thoughts about BF-ing. think the most important is our feeling about it. just follow your heart... we show our love to our babies not only through feeding mah, there are so many things we can do to show our love for them right?

thank GOD i manage to have nature birth..

Baby Full term upto end of 40weeks..just before 1day to hit 41week
Born on 03 09 2009 at 1020am.
weight 3.4kilos.
Lenght 50cm.
Natural birth with epidural.
Pushing of 1hrs 20mins. with some resting interval.

On Wed 2am.. having blooding show & contraction from
2am to 330am (5mins apart), 5am to 630am (3mins apart) , 7am to 9am (4mins apart). bear til cant bear anymore, i call Dr wong clinic & rush down for CTG.. and i was 1.5cm dilated... so Dr Wong say can go home and maybe tat nite i will need to admit.. so i went home with contraction pain of 5mins apart so i decided to go taka fair.. so maybe can speed up more..

at 530pm, my water abit of leaking,brownest show & contractions pains. i decided to wait.. til 930pm water is like flowing.. so rush down to admit hospital....

was put to observation room and dr wong arrived at 10pm and i was 2cm dilated.. while dr wong did the VE my water start gushing out!!.. so Dr wong say
by 3am (thur 030909), i will be 3cm dilated...so she insert 1 tablet in..
at 4am im in great pain and surviving with laughing gas.. and im 3cm dilated..
at 5am i request for epidural, and transfer me to birth room.
at 530am dr arrive to do the epidural by then i already 7cm dilated in pain!!! Lucky the dr process is fast.. i got relief in 20mins.....
at 730am im 9 cm dilated
at 830am im 10cm dilated..
at 9am, i start to do the pushing
at 1020am, baby by is out... Thanks God..
