(2001) calling all 2001 babies

Hi Mummies,

Sorry for being missing for a week. Been sick for a few days.

Hi JE,

My boy is in Catholic High School. Well known for their high standard.

Hi Fion,

My son not only picky on fruits also on food. He doesn't like to eat vegetables. As for fruits, I will only buy those that he likes. I will make him drink milk everyday as added supplement on his daily intake of food. Also give him vitamin C tablet everyday.

Hi jsd,

Not much different on this school holiday. Quite a number of homeworks are given. Still must ensure he finish all of them before school re-open. The only good thing in this week is don't have to wake up so early :p

I am working. Will only take one day leave to bring him out. The rest of the day he will be at the student care centre. At least the centre still provide tuition. He can still learn something there. At the same time have more time to play with his friends.

Jessie,

Wow, Catholic High is a full school. I remember it produces quite a number of O level scholars each yr! Does it mean that your son will automatically be promoted to its secondary school or is there a cutoff point for PSLE T-score?

Hi JE,

Yes, you are right. It is a SAP school and last year they produced I think 6 or 8 scholars in the 'O' level. Even our prime minister also comes from this school. My boy will not be auto promoted to its secondary school. They are given a slight "discount" on the PSLE total score. However the marks to enter is also quite high.

hi mummies: gosh. 2nd day of the school hols & i'm already cracking my head on what to do with kai. he's so bored at home. i think it's better that he goes to school.

jess: wow, your son is really in a very good school. how do u tahan the pressure?

spanielpups, fion: i'm really getting tired of being at home
sad.gif
i feel i'm worse off than working. really need to find a job.

Hi Olwen, I brought my son to the Singapore Discovery Centre yesterday. Quite fun though and entrance fee is reasonable. Entrance fee at $10 entitled you to watch a 45mins 3d movie and the exhibits as well. Lots of fun stuff for kids. You can also walk over the to army museum where Kai can try his hand on shooting. I am not sure if army museum is free but when we went yesterday, it was free because of the Army Open House.

Hi All mummies

I brought my chn to science centre, spend many hours there. Entrance fees also reasonable.

Hi Olwen,

At this moment I can still tahan the pressure. Just do things one at a time and try to prepare in advance if possible. Next year I am not so sure as one more subject comes in.

Unlike Spanielpups and jsd, I have to work so no time to bring my boy to anywhere. There is a Gundam Fiesta at Compass Point. I just brought him there to join their workshops. He quite enjoyed as after the workshops, goody bags and set of model were given. He is looking forward to attend his classmate's birthday party this weekend. He can bowl, swim and eat the whole afternoon.

Hi Jessie

is the Gundam Fiesta still on? I am a working mom too but I took leave on Mon and Tues to spend some time with my son.

Hi spanielpups,

Yes. It will be on till 14th Sep (if I am not wrong). I am only taking one day leave tomorrow. Bringing him for his eyes checkup then go jalan jalan....

Oh I see, Gundam Fiesta is like transformer type of toys. I think my son might not be interested. He is very strange, he don't like superman, spiderman, batman, transformer, power rangers, Ben 10. Maybe too much fighting?? He enjoys cartoons like spongebob, tom and jerry. Hahah.

Sama sama, my boy also don't really like those. Hardly see him watch those shows on TV. He likes to play lego and thomas train.

Hi mummies,

Just reading through the thread. im from a book retail line.. so will like to recommend children books. Geronimo stilton, Rainbow magic, Magic Tree house, magic sch bus are all gd books for primary sch kids to begin with. also u all can try usborne books, they are very popular and very educational. Dr Seuss books are also very good for very early readers..they have different color codes on the books- blue, green and yellow back books .depending on how fluent the child can read on his own. Btw, I am trying to start a spree on children books - Geronimo Stilton. Going at $7.50 each. If you are interested , you can email me at [email protected] on the titles that you want..

Hi Olwen

Time really flies and yr little one is already a year old and ours going to be P3 next year....eeekkks...

Very stressful month this is with the exam round the corner. Yeh...Jessie....we need all the JIA YOU we can.....haha.

Hi Spanielpups

You are right! Very stressful month. My boy has his composition this morning. Tomorrow another paper for chinese. The rest all at the end of the month after the one week holiday.

P3 will be more stressful for us as there is an additional subject - science. Will be another tough task for us as lots of project will be coming up
sad.gif

Hi Olwen,

Congrats, finally u got a suitable one for you. Oh ya, Happy Belated Birthday to your triplets BBs.

Hi Jessie,

Sorry for being MIA for months/weeks
happy.gif
Thanks for your info. Currently, my son takes the Redoxon Vit.C everyday. Wow... your boy had started his SA2 1st papers! My boy starts his 1st paper at the end of the month. Yap, I can feel the stress getting nearer and nearer.

All the mummies here "Jia You"!

Hi Olwen,

No worries, can understand that all mummies are busy. My son takes Brand's Alpha Chewable C and Vision Bilberry everyday. My boy's school holiday starts early so exam also starts early. I am already in the stress now
sad.gif

Anyway, JIAYOU to all mummies and our kids!

Hi Mummies,

How's everyone here? Pop in to have some fresh air... as I'm feeling stressful and tired. Today 1st paper for him and his last paper end till next month! I'm really half-dead, how I'm going to make it till next month...
sad.gif
Believe some kids almost finish their exam. Can't imagine how stressful will be as they are going to P3 next year....

Hi Fion

Why next month? Which level?

I think I am taking this on its stride. I was very stressed last year when my son was in P1, as I am not sure what to expect for exam. This time round, I am taking it easy. I think my neighbours hear less screaming and shouting session from me. Hahah.

Hi spanielpups

He is in P2 and next yr going to P3. My boy last paper on 4/11/09. Yours finish exam? Mine just started... so envious those who are already finished. Frankly speaking, I can't take it easy especially when see his silly mistakes. Hahah!! any tips to teach me how to take it easy :p

Yes Yes, now all mummies are stressed with their kids' exams......me too....hope my boy will try his best in tmrw's english papers...focus...focus....that's what I told him repeatedly.....

Hi Fion, my son's exam will end this Friday. Friday seems like months... Yes, careless mistakes makes my blood boil but too much screaming at him doesn't work either, so only thing to do is keep reminding him about it. He did a past year paper 3 weeks ago and with his 6 seconds record of checking through, he only get about 70 marks. I did not mark the paper but just ran through and I already spotted quite a few mistakes, I returned the paper to him and told him to check through from question 1 till the end of the question. He spotted the mistakes and got about 90 marks. He can really "SEE" the difference of checking through and not. So the rest of the papers I gave him, he did check but of course still with mistakes but minimised.

Hi mummies,

I must still struggle for another day as my boy last paper is tomorrow. Similiarly my boy also make careless mistakes. Marks "fly" away like that and make me very "heart pain". Been nagging at him everyday. Guess he is also getting stress from my nagging. At times I will talk to him nicely and explain to him why I need him to study hard and score all the good marks. Glad he can understand and be a good boy by listening to what I want him to do
happy.gif

Hi spanielpups, Jesslyn & Jessie,

Actually they can score & do well if they check thru their silly mistakes. For example, spanielpups's boy was amazing after he had checked thru his mistakes and got 90 marks instead of 70!! Looks like every mummies here are going to relief your stress soon... and I'm just started and long way to go...
sad.gif

Check with all the mummies here, does your child has sentences sequencing in their English Exam paper? Thanks!
happy.gif

Hi mummies!

I hope everyone is having a good break now that SA2 is over. Can't wait for the school hol to start
happy.gif

I need some advices and feedback here. Where do you send your kids for English and Chinese enrichment/ tuition? My boy has been going to berries since P1 and he enjoys the lesson, but i'm afraid i dont see much improvement in his Chinese. He scored 70+ last term, and this term he only got 60/75 for the paper2. Even though i prefer to send him to enrichment class where he could learn thru play in a lively group setting, I'm contemplating if i shld get a home tutor for him cos his foundation is really weak. Any good recommendation? I'm staying in Clementi.

Hi Jessie,
Is your boy still going to i-creative? My boy used to attend the pre-sch i-creative but we did not manage to get a place for him in the lower pri classes. Which center does your boy go to?

Any mummies here send their kids to Eduplus, Ulu Pandan? Whats your view on British Council vs I can read/ Morris Allen?

Thanks in advance!

Dear mummies,

I am a school teacher intending to switch to full time tutoring, hence I am offering a FREE trial session to interested parents. Pls kindly find more info on the free trial session in the following thread if u are keen to engage a tutor for your darlings.

Thank u! Do feel free to ask me any questions.

Fion: Sentence sequencing is required for P1 and 2. There is a general structure that u can use to help your child score well in this section.
happy.gif

Hi jteo,

Sorry for the late reply. My boy still go to i-creative. He is in Sengkang branch.

My boy is at Eduplus Tampines. Ulu Pandan is too far for us. So cannot give you any comment on that centre.

Hi Mummies,

SA2 is over. Did your kids do well? How did you prepare your kids for P3? I was told that it's a big jump from P2 to P3.

Hello JE,

Yes, SA2 is finally over. My son's exam result has slacken slightly though still in the 80s. I am worried for next year as everybody was saying that as the kids get to higher level, their exam marks will slacken, i.e from the 90s in P1 to the 80s in P2 and 70s in P3.... Foundation is really important. I think I need to save more $$$ for tuitions and enrichments. Haha.

Hi mummies,

My boy is enjoying his school holiday now. Similarly, my boy's exam result has also slacken slightly but still manage to squeeze.... into the best class. Been cracking my head to work out something for this Nov/Dec school holidays. Any suggestions?

Hi mummies,
My boy's holiday started the day his papers ended! He has improved abit compared to SA1. My hb and I are quite please with the result - 260/300 considering that he does not have tuition except for Berries. We have been rather relax and only started to push him to revise 1 mth before the exam. :p But we know that come P3 we wont have the luxury to do so esp since we reckon his position in the level falls ard 125-135th out of 239. How is the standard in your kids' school?

Hi spanielpups,
I agree tuition and enrichment classes are costly. I did my math last wkend. A year of english and chinese enrichment classes for my P2 and K1 boys + the kindergarten school fees for the K1 would cost 7k! And that exclude math and science... Omg!! Does anybody has more cost effective methods to share?

Hi Jessie,
No worries
happy.gif
How do you find the classes at I-creative and Eduplus? My boy got a slot at the I-Creative in upper bt timah. But its on a wkday 3pm and I have no clue how I'm going to arrange the ferrying part. Sigh..

Has anyone heard of the Confucius Institute - 孔子学院? Any comment and feedback is appreciated.

http://ci-ntu.com/english/programmes/student-programmes/3042-Top-Chinese-Enrichment-Programme.html

Sigh, this term my boy did badly compared to SA1. Band 2 for the 2 languages, and Band 1 for the Maths..Disappointed but didn't want to discourage him though. Am considering to send him to creative writing classes @ Tien Hsia for Chinese, Hess Education for English..Any comments on these centres?

Hi Jesslyn,
I had heard of both but didnt send my kids there so cant comment on them. There is some discussion on Tien Hsia on some of the threads here and kiasu parents. Maybe you could read up those. Did you compare his papers with SA1? Were they more difficult that's why his results slacken? There are so many enrichment centres out there. Its a real headache trying to pick the right one for our kids.

Hi mummies
I am from the 2002 thread.

Any kind souls staying in the west here can pass me P2 textbooks or at a token?

1) English (My Pals are Here)
2) Maths (My Pals are Here)
3) Primary Chinese
4) Social Studies (Interacting with our World)
5) Perfect Match Music

Pls PM me. Thank you

Hi Jol,

My boys both P2 and P4 attended 孔子学院 in 2008 and 2009. I should say 2008 curriculum is much better than 2009. My P2 boy got full marks in his P1 but not in P2 (50/55 for paper 2; overall 88/100). Feedback from my P4 boy was that it is no longer as interesting as before. So we are quiting for next year.

Hi Swee Lin,

Did your P4 mention what cause the lost of interest? The program, teacher or classmates? Do your boys have the same teacher throughout the 2 years? Last week when i went down to the school to inquire, i was told that next year the materials will be prepared by the school where as this year it is prepared by the teacher who teaches that level. Which chinese school are you sending them next year?

Hi Jol,

He mentioned that he likes his teacher in 2008. And 2008 materials were prepared by school instead of the teacher. I think these are the reasons. I am sending him to ZhengFei Cultural Education Centre which I had signed him up in Jun this year, he likes the teacher and the same teacher will teach him next year.

Hi Caroline,

I have P2 chinese, english, social studies and Civics and Moral Education, do you want?

hi jess, fion, spanielpups: long time no see!

my new job is really busy, haven't even had time to email fion. we also moved house. need it w my huge brood. jess, i have 4 kids.

my kai did sooo badly in the exams. i envy the 3 of u, ur kids can do soooo well! sigh, i guess he either needs a lot more pushing or we have to lower our expectations. but how to push him more w my ltd time?

welcome swee lin!

Hey Olwen, yes indeed, haven't seen all mommies around, I think all went for holiday to destress! Haha. Aiyo, my ds also slacken in exam. I supposed it will slacken further next year as it gets harder. Moreover, next yr is the first year they have CAs. sigh! I really dislike pm session but I am stuck with it for the next 2 years. I find that there is not enough time for revising as he has to finish up his school homework at night. Morning he is with my mom (who can't teach) so the only alternative is to get tutor and in that way he can't get away with playing the whole am before going to school.

Hi Olwen,

Nice to hear from you. How's ur new job? My son's results not good too ;( As now I'm busy looking for 1-1 home tutor for his Higher Chinese. Sigh... can't imagine next yr results... Each year exam getting more and more difficult and more challenging for us too ...
sad.gif

Hi spanielpups,
Next yr your son is in the aftn session and will be with it for next 2yrs? Hmm... I thought P1-P2 in aftn session and P3 onwards in morning session but some pri sch P1-P3 aftn and P4-P6 is morning session. Me too, I don't like aftn session and usually they'll take for granted when they with their grandparents. So it's difficult to discipline them ;(

Hi Fion,

The school has 1, 3 and 4 in pm session and 2,5, 6 in am session... I just got a tutor for my ds, and will start next year. My ds cannot do group tuition coz he is very disruptive in class.

Hi spanielpups,

Were the parents get confuse sometimes, as such arrangement very odd.. Same here, my son can't focus & concentrate esp in a group. He's easily get distract by others. It's not easy to get a reliable and a good tutor. Don't mind can share with me what is the rate?

Hi Fion

No choice, we can't choose the sessions, I believed they made some changes to the sessions before my ds was enrolled in the school. I got my tutor from the tuition agent who help me to source for a suitable tutor. It depends on the qualification of the tutor, I am getting an undergrad at $20/hr.

Hi spanielpups,

Thanks for your info.
happy.gif
Times files so fast, school will be reopen in 2 weeks time... Guess we have to get ourselves mentally prepare to back to sch with them, hahah!!
happy.gif
How's ur ds spend his long holidays? As mine, first half morning he has to do some assessement worksheets that I give to him. The second half is his "free time" he can do whatever he wants to. Usually, he plays his x-box games or his DS game... Seems like this thread is very quiet nowadays so I guess some mummies are still on holidays!! hahah!!
happy.gif

Hi Olwen, Spanielpups and Fion,

How's everyone? Hope all of you are fine.

Me, busy with work. Could hardly take leave to spend time with boy. Feeling so bad. Now everyday still put him in student care centre. Good thing the centre is giving them tuition and getting them ready for P3. They also organised excursion so at least the children can get to have fun time outside.

Left 2 more weeks for me to sleep abit more every morning. When the school reopen, I will have lack of sleep again

Hi all,

Just came back from chalet in Sentosa. Spend 3days 2nights there. Have an enjoyable time as my cousins and their kids came over from M'sia to join us. I can spend more time with my ds this mid week onwards as office will be closed till the new year. This is my favourite time of the year. Haha. Fion, my ds also have to do his assigned homework (from mommy)during the school holidays otherwise, ds will tends to forget what he has learnt in school. This holiday, I made him learnt his timetables and tenses and drill him on both daily!! Drilling really works! Ha! I think we mommies should enjoy the holidays while we can as we have a tougher school year ahead!

hi spanielpups, jess, fion: blessed christmas!

spanielpups, the chalet sounds really nice. i think i shall try tt for my kids' first overnight trip out together.

let's hope our kids will be able to face up well to the new challenges next year. for me, i really donno how my kai is going to cope. sigh.
