Hi everyone,

My wife is in her 1st trimester and i want to prepare snacks for her to eat, apart from her 3 main meals.

can anyone advise what can i prepare for her as she get hungry easily? She will feel nausea too if she get hungry.

Thank you very much....

Just my 2 cents:
1) Nuts (Macadamia, hazel nuts, peanuts and etc) to nibble
2) Fruits (Berries,apple slices)
3) Mix of 1 & 2 with yogurt
4) Milkshakes like avocado milkshake (guess no banana/papaya for early trimester)
5) Crackers (Plain)

Hi,
Thank you for your advice.

1. What about almond nut?
2. I am trying to give her green apple as she gets nausea with sweet stuff now. Previously, i gave her kiwi, blueberries.
3. We are trying crackers with hot milo before sleeping so that she will not wake up feeling empty the next morning. Do you think is good for her to have this before sleep?

Is there any sour/salty food/soup that she can take? i have been cooking pork rib with lotus and blackbean for her once a week. I would like to try something different.

Once again, thank you for your advice.

1. Sure. Why not almond nut, most of the nuts should be fine to be consumed.
2. Green apples are great too. Guavas should be OK for her also.
3. Crackers with milo before sleep in first trimester should be fine I guess. I also drink a lot of milo during 1st trimester but when it comes to 2nd trimester, my gynae says I need to control my glucose intake , so I just drink low fat milk instead.
4. Most soups can be taken from time to time like ABC /seaweed/tomato, except for those herbal soups (maybe once in a blue moon).

Does your Wife working? What snacks did you prepare for her in office? Cause nibble all time sounds scary but I would feel hungry at times too..... my previous pregnancy I used to standby bread in my handbag. Hence gained lots of weight at the end... need some advice on office snacks. Thanks.

Hi,

After trying for few days with fruits/biscuits/nuts etc, we settled down on biscuits or bread. The reason is that both biscuits and bread gave her the "full" feeling. She does not feel that her tummy is empty now. As for fruits and nuts, she cannot get the "full" feeling and thus felt nausea. Furthermore, some fruits are sweet and she "hate" the sweet taste now. She prefer sour or salty taste.

She also takes biscuits/bread whenever she feels hungry at night.

Hope the above helps..........

Great that you found something that makes your wife filling :)

I personally find small pacs of assorted biscuits very handy! I do placed some in my bag where ever i go! But if possible, go for biscuits containing oats or grains mixture.. at least it's like more healthier choice? :)

I do take overnight oats with milk too. I personally find it very filling. Just to share! :)

I understand how she felt :( As I was feeling super bad MS during first tri. I had apples, famous amos cookies & koko crunch. Try not to take so much as it is pretty sweet. I guess maybe becos she is low in sugar that's why she is feeling nausea.

It could also be her shower foam/shampoo.

These 2 days, she had pretty bad MS......She threw out her dinner at night.

I am trying to catch a pattern so that we can understand what causes it........is it the food, the amount of food she took and etc?

I saw a pattern is that she tends to vomit after about 90mins of dinner.

We ate dinner around 6.30pm, sat down to watch the TV and around 8pm, she will start to throw out.
She always has rice with pork/fish and vegetable. The amount of rice is about 1 bowl.

i was thinking is it due to too much rice.......

Maybe she can have lesser qty, but with more meals. That's what i did in my first trimester.
Just hang on! Second trimester mostly is the 'honeymoon period'! Usually these MS symptoms are short-lived- just magically disappeared!

Wow, that is something good to hear....but most important is that the baby is healthy.....

Hi! If your wife has serious MS now, she needs to eat small, frequent meals instead of a few large ones. You can also let her try sparkling lemonade to restrain the feeling of nausea. If you worry that your wife might not get enough nutrition, you can let her drink "chicken essence for digestion" which can strengthen her stomach and spleen function to absorb more nutrients, boost good appetite and improve the discomfort of the MS. I also had serious MS when I was pregnant, my hubby bought this for me and it's really effective!

Hi, my wife is currently take small and frequent meals now, about 2-3 hrs each.
She does not like lemonade, i tried giving her before.

Is "Chicken essence" consider herbs? Understand that should avoid herbs during the 1st trimester.

Hi @Frankie13 , Yes the "chicken essence for digestion" contains herbs in it. My TCM doctor told me the herbs in it are really gentle so I can drink it. I don't know your wife's constitution so better ask doctor first. If you still have any concern, you can also choose "pure chicken essence".

Hi, thanks for your advice. We will check it out with the Doctor.

Hi, my wife prefer green apple now, as compared to red apple. But she is taking less fruits as she feels nausea after taking, and maybe fruits are acidic, making her "empty" faster.

She is sticking to bread now whenever she is hungry.
