(2014/10) Oct 2014 Mummies

Does anyone here ask their gynae whom to contact/ how to seek help in event of medical emergencies?

I'm rather disturbed by the answer I get from my gynae.. He says I can see any doctor or gynae if his clinic is not open.. Or go to Kkh A&E..

Rather disappointed by his reply since he seems to be a very popular gynae with a lot of patients and his fees are not cheap...

Few days back I had a bad pelvic joint and when I asked to speak to him (during clinic opening hrs) I was flatly refused.. Even when my husband called them, the nurse gave excuses saying he's with a patient and can't get to the phone. Subsequently, we didn't get any follow-up calls to ask about my condition...

Somehow, I'm losing confidence in him...

Am I expecting too much or it this the norm for all gynaes.. Ladies, pls share ur experiences with me as I'm a first time mum.. Thanks..

I was given a emergency number to call shld there b emergency...

Emergency no given by my gynae is his hp no.. Very direct & contact him anytime. My friend is under the same gynae as mine. When she was 8mth pregnant, she had a fall at midnight. Immediately she called the gynae & get some advised. For me, I think we shd be able to contact gynae directly if there's any emergency. My gynae even told me call him if I feel contraction regardless at any timing..

@Rhonna parkway east hospital too far me eh ><

@lervia sure lervia, you can give or pm me your gynae number.. : )

@agaga thanks for advise, will call NUH to cancel the appt for next week and hope to find a new and good gynae very soon :p

@angel_loi yup let's waiting & welcome our new baby! *fear and excited* cheers!

@beac aww *big hugs back* okie I will call Dr Kang Wee clinic and check her delivery fees. Thanks beac

@angel_loi
I replace my normal shower gel with the lemongrass one but still boil the da feng cao to go with it.
As for the ginger cream is very good, it's hot after you apply on the abdomen and will start to burn, sweat... ( don't apply too much if not will be very uncomfortable)

hi, can i know where to get the ginger cream?

So how's your pelvic pain? Still very bad? Hopefully it gets better soon. Well your gynae shld hv a emergency line or smth la. I guess it's always best to be safe.

Thanks everyone for your replies and advices...

@beac, thanks for your concern.. The pelvic pain got much better on its own, though it's still a little painful sometimes.. My friend strongly recommends me to do yoga as the instructors are able to advice on certain poses for pain relief and it worked very well for her.. I also trust that yoga will be useful as I've been doing it actively years ago...

@beac, after seeing other's replies here and also checking with my friend whom saw the same gynae several yrs ago, I checked my doc's card and saw the emergency no. printed there.. Dunno why gynae didn't point it out to me when I ask him... Maybe he forgot about it??!

mind sharing why ur gynae said that it is useless ? i was still considering and yet to discuss it with my gynae.
Sorry to intrude but if u do your research online, you will realize that you cannot use your own cord blood to treat a lot of diseases including leukemia because once u have such diseases it also means your cord blood has the mutation. Unless u have the extra cash for it, most gynaes wouldn't recommend storing cord blood because the chance of using it is really very low for the price u pay. Also science is now moving away from cord blood research but towards adult stem cells etc which is more readily available. So it's not true that cord blood is like a "miracle" cure. In fact, research shows that cord blood cannot b stored for more than 10 years. Once after 10 years it's not guaranteed the cells can be useable for therapy

Did your gynae say the reason? My sis LO was underweight cause my sis heart is weak baby unable to absorb nutrients. She was given a week bed rest, now the weight is better. Maybe you can consume more proteins and drink more milk.

Gynae chk my blood test is ok , nothing wrong with me...maybe I didn't eat well, rest well..haiz have to see any improvement with this sat. follow-up.

Thanks mama_joanne

I think don't need to worry that much? When I saw my gynae I was 28 weeks baby was 1.2kg there abt. She says no problem. So give or take 2 weeks I think it's okay nth too much to worry about.

Hi I ate durian to gain bb weight but I am not sure if this is the right way as it was advised by friends.

@beac
At 28wks LO was 1.2kg
But at 30wks I went for the 4D scan the sonographer did a detail scan too LO was still 1.2kg.

@FMTB
I ate durian in my 1st pregnancy too but this round seems not working. .

Let's pray that after 1 wk of eating I see results this Saturday. .;-)

means 10 years later, my baby cordblood sort of expiry and cannot be used anymore? i was considering storing and did google on the storage part. i found some web claimed that it could keep for more than one decade, almost infinity. mind sharing where u get the info of the 10 years storage ? so u never store? dont know whether should store or not. is seem to be very important and my husband does not object it since financially we could cope.

Have you tried sleeping on your left side? It's the optimum position for baby to receive oxygen and therefore grow better :)

@nanadeedadee
I seldom sleep on both left or right unless need to tend to my boy who sleep in the cot on my left.
I think must change my habit to see got improvement. . I rmb last pregnancy I did tat but this round too lazy so maybe this is the reason behind it...:O

Some say it's good to eat durian. But my gynae told me not to eat to much. & I know of someone who ate too much BP too high then must do emergency C-Sec at 7 months!
So I guess everything in moderation is the safest way!!

@zeropanda , my Lo weighs 1.1kg wk28 , 1.8kg wk31 and I was like whao... 700gm in 3weeks!! I'm going for my routine scan tmr at wk33 and how much my Lo gained... hmm

My 1st bb at wk37 detail scan, Dr. said only 2.9kg BUT my bb turn out 3.3kg when c-sec after a few days. SO, my conclusion is even detail scan is not accurate on actual bb weight!

Just make sure u r not on hunger pang and r gaining weight, pls do not worry too much. Stay happy and positive are the main keys to deliver a healthy baby ;)

@zeropanda

Not to worry so much yet as u still have at least 8 weeks to go... Some baby grow more on the last few weeks. As long as you eat as per normal & baby is healthy then it's fine. Do take care ya!

I just done my routine check up with my gynae. Baby weight at almost 2.6kg on 32 weeks 5 days. So far my weight still remained at 83kg, happy! :) Gynae advised me to be deliver somewhere ard 38weeks as my baby quite big size. I supposed to be deliver at Mt A but after discussion with my gynae, my gynae recommend me to go Mt Elizabeth at Novena. Heard that their facilities is much more better than Mt A & all the rooms there is single bedder. So, my hubby just said give it a try & we will opt for single bedder then he can stay with me too.

Hi mummynancy,

I got my info from this website:
http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/banking-your-babys-cord-blood?page=4

I think some websites claim can store till infinity cos they are promoting cord blood banking. But I spoke to some of my friends working in the research sector and a lot say that it's really not gauranteed that the cells will be the same after so many years. I don't plan to store my cord blood, plan to donate it to public bank. It is true that cord blood can potentially be used for treatments in the future but to me the chance is too small for the price that these banks charge. Also private cord blood banking is banned in Europe. Considering Europe is one of the leading countries in research I believe there are other ways for therapy besides cord blood. If u are financially stable I think u can bank for peace of mind but do read up abit more abt the pros n cons before deciding :)

Actually some websites say 10 or 15 yrs. I think our own SCBB says 18. Anyway after doing the research I've decided to donate #2's cord blood, same as what I did for #1. I agree it's a personal choice for parents to make and there are pros and cons to each. Do the research and make an informed decision.

By the way, private cord blood banking isn't banned in Europe. They call it family banking. Just do a simple Google search and you can see the private banks there.

Did a google n read that they changed the regulatory rules in Europe recently but am pretty sure that private banking used to be banned there. Thanks for the update though! They should update websites such as these:

Can any mummies here share their experience on how it feels like exactly, when the waterbag bursts? Or how you know when it's "time" to bombs away. My first was induced. Hence, dunno what it feels like. TIA!

Mine was my mucus plug. I had show. So the doctor told me since my first time she can either admit me or I can go back and wait. So I left it up to her, she say she will admit me since my cervix was opening. Waterbag was burst by doctor.

This round I'm hoping to go all natural birth without epi. Hahaha. My first time was natural with epi.

Haha.. had once last week. At wk32. I think shld be okay ba... quite a quicky for us...lol

I think I'll do it again by wk35. Then got to wait for after confinement liao..
