i want to share my experience on this and not sure anyone had this experience. it was quite an unpleasant and disappointg experience i had with this mother and child shop in tanglin mall when i went for my postnatal yoga.
and this shop supose to be mother and child friendly but imagine i was told by one of the shop staff- blond girl to breastfeeding outside the shop.
hre my story and i wrote in to director to complain:
I was attending my weekly post natal yoga class on every tue at tanglin mall. So usually myself and my girlfriend will bring our babies along for the class and before our class, we will usually be waiting outside the class as there is still an ongoing class going on.
typically i will breastfeed my baby before the class so that she will on full stomach and will not be fussy during the yoga class and will not disturb the rest of the mothers and baby. so one of the day, i had to breasfeed my girl as she is crying from hunger, i asked the receptionist at the desk if i can pull a chair and sit in one corner of the room and nurse her and at the same time i had my nursing shawl over. the receptionist kindly agreed and help me to pull a chair and i was seated near to the entrance quietly.
subsquently, another lady who is a blond girl (i dont know her name) walk over to me and in a reprimanding tone told me that usually breastfedeing is not allowed in the shop but she is putting it as an exception as the shop is not crowded. and she say i can sit outside the shop to breastfeed. i was toally appalled and shock by her response.
isnt this mother and child a baby and mother friendly class and strongly promote breastfeeding and well being to new mothers?
firstly, the bench outside the shop is not conducive and convienent for breasfeednig or sitting as there are alot of strollers and prams parked there by the mothers who are already in the earlier class leaving no space for me to sit.
secondly, the bench is facing a moderate traffic crowd who are streaming into the opposite store and it not very conducive n comfortable for me to pull up my tops and nurse my baby with the noise outside from the crowd.
i dont see the reason why i should be told to stop breastfeedig my baby in the shop if im not in any way disrupting the class and moreover the shops are all mummies and babies who are attending the class? and there is not muhc crowd and no mothers in anyway will come over and told me that i shouldnt breasfeeding.
im totally disappointed and shock by the remark and gesture of the blond staff who actualyl told me off.
hence, i wish to bring up this incident and if anyone happen to come across this similar incident, pls do share and bring up to the director of the shop to look into it.
