How to get school to approve keeping ruyi oil in preschool

The preschool principal does not allow the teacher to apply ruyi oil in the school neither does she allow it to be kept n school.

I tried to get a prescription letter from GP to authorise but GP say cannot.

How can I get approval for this..?

If this cannot be done, then I am surely considering transferring my child to another school.

hi sinnyy

based on my previous experiences actually some preschools head don't want any unnecessary troubles that comes with the application of such 'medical' oilment but having said this, some centres I encountered don't really mind. In your case I would suggest you to talk to the head and also submit a letter to authorize the school to apply the medicated oil and also add the phrase 'I WILL NOT HOLD THE SCHOOL/TEACHERS RESPONSIBLE for any medical mishaps/side effects that could arise from such medications' --Hope this helps.

How about trying to understand from the teachers' perspective? First, there are children with chronic eczema that needs to be bathed with prescribed shower foam, then lotion to be applied 3x a day. And then, there are children that have dried skin and their parents asked teachers to help apply lotion. Then the other kind that loves the talcum powder. Lastly, children on oral medication, asthma, etc etc. All these required additional attention from the teachers, and priority given to medical conditions, right?

And then, let's say, your child loves ruyi-oil. What is the problem with adding this to the list? First, it is "spicy". It makes the teachers' hands spicy (they are not supposed to wash off immediately after application - if you believe in ruyi-oil, it also states that washing immediately will make the person rheumatism!).... So, makes teacher's hands spicy and unsuitable to handle other children. Cannot help other kids to apply their medicated lotion, etc. Even Mopiko, our centre will not allow, whether brought from home or not! Only aloe-vera or medication from doctor. Also, what is good for your child might be poison to another kid - those poor kids with super sensitive skin, or somehow someone drinks it? Put it in their eyes?

Why is it so important for your baby to have Ruyi oil? My baby had that every morning, too. But after the first few months we just graduated from it. Also, some finds the smell offending and thinks our kid "very smelly" .... Anyway, can you put it in the morning, and in the evening? You see... if every parent have one special request, the teachers would be so overwhelmed!

chris: it sounds like a good idea, will check if i can write an authorisation letter.

frog: it is not that my children love ruyi oil, but loves the smell of ruyi oil, it is only with ruyi oil that can get rid of stomach upsets that my kids can . they can get quite bad tummmy aches, and everytime the school call, I need to come to school to take them home, with the oil on hand, they teacher can just help reduce their pain and not needing me to fetch them home.

You are of course entitled to your own views, I also have my own. No offence.

I wonder how old are your children? I also have kids and to share, I have dealt with different kinds of stomachaches. Sometimes, the grumpy one just wants my attention (or refused to goto bed), and says tummyache. need tummyrub. When they are older, they even admit they just like tummyrub and the smell! Sometimes, they didn't go their business routinely, then tell me tummyache (but dun like to do business!!), then, there are times that the tummy are just windy, but if seen by the GP (usually when not well), they will give medication. Sometimes, too much of broccoli, soya bean, etc causes bloatedness and they complain, too. What I am trying to illustrate is that there can be many causes of tummyaches - ranging from psychological to wind to diet to good toileting habits. It might be worth your try to find out the root cause of the problem.

Changing childcare centre can be traumatizing for kids, too. One of my kids didn't pass motion for a week in new childcare - imagine the kind of tummyache we had to go thru! Also, if you change a childcare, after finding one that agreed to apply ruyi-oil for your kid, what if there is a change of teacher or change of management? The current childcare centre isn't being unreasonable - they have their own reasons (not that I am a childcare teacher!)...
