HDB loan - single / unwed mother

Hi single/ unwed mother. I writing in to seek advise and get to know for those who had successfully purchase a HDB flat how did you do it.

Right now my situation is the I am pregnant and going to be give birth in 3 month time . I am very stress about housing issue .

Due to circumstances me and the baby father will not be getting married but he had offer to come out with some money to help with baby expenses but the main problem is I do not have a house to stay.

My parent have been divorce for more than 8 year . My father had than remarried an bought a flat and house my sister and brother with new partner son. As for my mom when they sold the flat they make a lost due my mother did not have money to buy a flat and me and her have been staying in our own individual rented room. But as time goes buy the renting cost is getting high and hardly able to kept up paying. Because the rental are even more than my pay from the open market.

Right now I am earning a basic of 1700 without my commission. But on the average I am take home 2100 with commission. So I have decided to purchase a flat with my mother as I as a owner and my mother as essential occupier but due to my mother loan we will not be able to apply for HLE loan. So HDB have rejected me and told me to go the bank. But because previously I have a study loan which was outstanding the banks have rejected regardless if the amount is only 5k. So I have wrote in to HDB and and told them the banks have rejected and they were willing to review based on the documentation that I submitted. Upon submitting the document hdb have come back to say if the house is under my name and my mother as essential occupier the loan amount vase on my salary alone they were only willing to loan 104 k subjected to approval . And if I were to put my mother name as co owner the loan amount will be 208 k subject to approval.

I have written in to hdb for appeal and even wrote in to Facebook to minister of the development and even send email to his account but as usual it is manage by the page admin and all they say is to forward my requested as expected all these people are just paper pusher which I doubt my case have been highlight to the relevant department explain them on my situation.

I have check single mother In Singapore is not able to buy a flat from hdb and because the income ceiling is above 1500 or rent a flat from hdb directly.

I am desperate and stress the only thing about this pregnancy is that I do not have a house to stay.

At the moment I had put aside enough money for at least the first year of baby love but because I got no place to stay I had to rent from open market at 2100 because nobody would accept a crying baby for room rental and my relative more friends are able to help much into housing me.

What should I do and go about. Even writing in to the minister does not even help. Ain't minister surpose to help their citizen. Just because I decided to be single mother that why I cannot get any help? Single mother are not entitled to any baby bonus or CDA account already. We need to keep all the money as much possible for our baby future.

I was so depress that I called the com care and com care have forwarded me to a family centre but family centre will take a while to get a social worker to work on my case but what can social worker do? They tell me to stay at a pregnancy shelter . Don't get me wrong with me not wanting to go to the shelter but the shelter is not a place that i suitable for my situation . But for my case I just need a house to stay so that I can move on with my life normally and raise up the baby as how normal people would. I even engage a confinement lady as my mother do not know how to do it.

What should I do? I can't think of a plan b if I cannot get a house to stay. Any recommendation?

Hi Singlemomtobe,

Be strong. I have some friends they don't hv own house to stay but rent a unit for more then year with baby.

think of 3rd world country, alot ppl don't hv house with young babies...how they survive

u can rent direct from HDB first. for urgent case they might give you priority.

You need to personally go down to the MP session, and meet the MP. What you can try to do, is to appeal for a subsidised rental flat with your mom. Better chance this way.
