Hi,

My wife recently saw Dr Heng Tung Lan from ESH for her first appointment and was told that she only delivers at ESH. Any mums who delivered recently care to comment on ESH's facilities and whether the stay there was comfortable? And if your gynae happpened to be Dr Heng, any comments about her?

Ben

Hi Ben
This is my 2nd time going to deliver at Eastshore. I would highly recommend and the 2nd one, my gynae is Dr Heng and i would say she's the best. U dont ve to worry coz she is very experience. Hope this helps..

Hi Ben

I would say ESH is a very friendly hospital and their nurses will be very glad to help mummies with their needs.
happy.gif

Food wise, dun expect too much. Suggest, if possible, can cook confinement dishes once your wife delivers and send to her bah...
happy.gif

Snack wise, ESH is quite generous and surely will provide water, milo, biscuits to your wife when she is hungry or thirsty.

But, pls rem to bring ur bb's clothings as he/she will need to wear their own bb clothes during the stay in hospital.
Understand ESH dun provide bb clothings, but they do provide e lil blanket to swandle them after they are delivered.

likewise for mummy, pls rem to get ur wife to prepare own clothings while in hospital, and front-bottoned if intending to breastfeed for convenience.

I'm with Dr Loke, so gynae wise, no comments.

But I heard she's very popular in ESH, as her patients are mostly delivering at ESH.

Hope e abv helps!!
All e best to parenthood!! :D

I went to the maternity tour at esh last week. Very homely I might say. Got to know from the tour lady that there's a promo for 2 bedded & 4 bedded till Jun 09. But Im taking one bedded, so no disc for me..

Hi oshiezan,
U r right. Eventhough the place might be quite "ulu"(stand for deserted), the rooms looks fine and nurses there r all very friendly. Btw, mine will be the 2nd baby and i opt for 2 bedded but i ve not heard that there is a promo. Care to share?

Hi Ben

I'm currently seeing Dr Heng as well...I will be delivering in Mar.

Dr Heng is a bubbly and jovial lady. She keeps assuring me that everything is fine with a very cheerful smile and will not let u worry unnecessary when there is no need to. Just like when i had my first-trimester problems, she was there constantly assuring me that things are good and i realli don't have to worry so much...jus relax and enjoy my pregnancy. Though initially i wasn't quite assured cos i tend to worry more and wish she can provide me with a more detailed explanation. But if you have any questions and doubts she will gladly answer then patiently and with a cheerful smile.

But of course, if there is something which we have to take note of and worry about, she will definitely bring it to our attention.

And each time u have questions pls try to note down and raise up to her cos her visits can be quite fast and u may tend to forget u needed to ask those questions. Go in, no questions, do scan and come out liao...pretty fast.

All in all, i would say she's quite a nice gynae who puts patients at ease and with her loads of experience, i believe she will be able to deliver her patients well...

Claire,
When did you deliver at ESH? 5 years ago, when I was there, I've to bring my own bb clothes. But when I just went for the hospital tour last month, the lady told me that ESH provides bb clothes (the one with tie-string). But you have to bring your own accessories i.e. mittens, botties, hat.

Overall experience at ESH for my 2 stays are satisfactory and the environment was cosy.

*lynne*
When do we have to book the room before we deliver?

Do we have to pay any deposit?

Total bill almost 4K?? Just that you paid 1.5K with cash...

you stayed for 2nights?

Hi mummies, im considering to deliver at Esh any idea how many months can visit for gynae? as im only first trimester...any idea? thank you...

Hi ct84

Are you asking when to start goin to gynae? If so, I would advise you to start now. Usually the gynaes have packages starting from 2nd trimester. Dr Heng's package is ard $660 inclusive of multivit n calcium pills. You will need to take a blood test at 4th mth n detail scan at your 5th which are not inclusive in the package.

Visha
I'm with Dr Heng cos my sis sees her for both her babies. Dr Heng is a nice lady. My hubby likes her too...

As for the pricing I also was not informed there's a promotion goin on when I gave birth in March 09. But the list I got was about $1500 for 2-bedded. For my case, I had natural w/o epidural birth. No assisted delivery. So I guess I paid the minimal. after the medisave deductions, only paid abt $300+ cash.

They will ask for $1.2k deposit but my hubby only gave $600 cos my delivery was abit early and we went into the hospital at 3.30am so my hubby didnt have all the money with him. even with the $600 we still have balance refunded to us.

Ah forgot to add...

Yup they have those old babies clothes recycled among the newborns. I only gave my mittens, botties and cap. But will still need to bring a set plus receiving blanket to change for the baby when leaving.

Dr Heng's staff will give a hospital list so no worries.

Hi,
anyone tried Dr Tan Yin Yin? She has a clinic at bedok call YY Tan woman's clinic. She delivers at ESH too. I am in the mist of dilemna whether to change gynae or not. Can someone advice?
Cos i have friends telling me that comparing to KKH private Suite, ESH is more ex. Is it true?

Hi everyone,

Wondering if this thread still active or not? I am looking into booking 4-bedded room at MAH...I do not mind not able to sleep well throughout the night as eventually will get awoken to BF baby...What I am afraid is that will the expenses be expensive? I heard that we have to pay for every item that we use which can amount to alot...My SIL had a c-sect done here and it cost her $10K!

May I know what is the injection on the thigh called? Will it really enable us not to feel the contraction pain? I was not asked by the KKH nurse to have this jab during my 1st delivery..in the end I was asked to use the laughing gas (which did not help at all) and opt for epi in the end...

Also, do we need to inform nurse to inject baby's 1st jab on the thigh OR it will be automatically done on the thigh? I was not asked by the KKH nurse whether to have the jab done on the thigh or backside...in the end the jab is done on her left arm which is so unsightful...so sad!

Sorry for the lenghty wordings and hope to hear from all the experienced parents soon!

hi all,

For mummies who have delivered at East shore, are yr babies allowed to stay thru out with u till u are discharged?

Hi,

i'm seeing Dr. Heng and will be delivery my 1st baby in end of nov, any recent updates/comments about ESH??

Wow great to know that, will be delivering there next month, how's about the payment process, how is it like, need to get it prepared in case they only accept cash or whatever

can use credit card for payment and medisave as well.
lynn, yes.they have dedicated person to teach you about breastfeeding during parentcraft session.she is nice lady. you can approach her after the class if you hv any doubt

I delivered my 2nd baby in ES with Dr Heng as my gynae. I was with KKH all along (forget that gynae name...a lady in the private suite...also very famous). But I switched from KKH and only visit Dr Heng on the last visit only as I went for delivery the next few days.

That time there is promotion so the price is cheaper than KKH. ES envirnment is good and quiet but some nurse at the nursery, in my view, can be abit not so friendly, cos I refuse to wake my sleeping baby to breast feed on the 2nd day.

So far she is ok. As this is my 2nd delivery, I feel that visiting gynae is just a routine...they do not do much but only scan and give medicine.

But ES is a good choice if you want a place not so crowded. I got a 2-bedder...and I thinks its nice and quiet. KKH dun have 2-bedder for me that time.

Appreciate if you could tell me your experience with ESH or with Dr Loke??? This is my 1st time.. and i plan to give a normal delivery... Any idea???

Era

Era: I'm a dr Loke supporter... He's a nice and pro gynae.
I rem my 2nd delivery was quite dramatic with a very blur blur nice and immediately dr Loke called e blur nurse to be out of e delivery ward and another senior nurse came in to assist him. As for bill, I can't tell cos I really can't rem and moreover I stayed at 4 bedder.. U can talk to ESH reception to find out more abt e bill.. And it also depends if u r taking epi and assisted delivery.. It will all vary...

All e best!!! :D u have a good gynae w u...
Rem... Chin down when u r ready to push once u reache 10cm!! :D

Items not included in Package:
Surgical Supplies: $17.14
Equipment and Supply: $52.50
Pharmacy: $5.20

Total Hospital Charges:$1,856.28

Dr Heng Tung Lan: $1,070
Dr Lim Woan Huan: $192.60

Overall Charges: $2,100

Cash/Net/Credit Card payment (after deduction from Medisave): $1,368.88

My gynae also Dr Heng, met her for one time only and before I can meet her for the next appt, I gave birth to my 2nd cute baby.

I like East Shore as it is quiet and not so buzy as in KK. I swtich over last minute to East Shore cos there is a promo on the Hospital in Feb last year. After compare with KK's 4-bedded, East shore's 2-bedder, that time, is still cheaper.

I think 2-bedder is good if you want a quiet place to rest after going through the "ordeal". haaa.

Hi there,
any one took ESH 1bedded? Please tell me the bills? Pretty scared if its too much. I woild like to know with epi hw much it cost for 1 bedded.
Also for thenpqckage with Dr heng, is it still 669? Just 660 not beyond 1k?

Thanx

Hi Ben,

I delivered my first baby last year in April and choosing Eastshore hospital is like the most natural thing to do. I really enjoyed my stay there. I stayed in a 1 beded room and I'm very fortunate that the room is available as we initially received the 2 bedded but changed our mind after delivery.

The total bill came up to about $2k and we were pleasantly surprised as we didn't fork out alot of cash. (we initially were prepared to pay cash of 3k for the entire procedure. FYI, mine was a 3D2N stay, natural birth with epidural.
From our first to the last step out of the hospital, the entire crew of staff (from the bell boy, to the mid-wife, nurses, lactation specialist, and the other random nurses who assisted me have all been kind, patient, professional and service oriented. The ward is also very cosy. I felt very comfortable during my stay there.

Till today, whenever I bring my baby to visit her PD who's based in Eastshore, there is always a service staff stationed at the entrance to guide the direction of cars and open the door of the cars to greet the guest. And this staff will also assist to signal / call for taxis to pick up guests leaving the hospital. My family and I feels like the hospital is more like a hotel instead.

Additionally, the food that was served was really good. Their main course includes a selection of Western, Indian, Muslim and even serve Chinese herbal soup that is specially prepared for mummies after delivery.

And yes, if you choose the single ward or Suite (they're both different) you can choose to have your baby sleep in the ward or nursery.

On the third day of delivery, there is even a class within the maternity ward which has demos to teach parents how to feed, bathe their babies. There's also a video to teach you how to comfort your baby when he/she cries. (very useful indeed) the class is quite intensive and takes about 2 hours. there are other topics covered too but I can't recall all.

But you need to being your own swaddle and clothes for the babies. Dun forget also their socks, mittens and wool caps for your baby. As for the mummy, it's better to prepare an extra set of maternity pads as the hospital do not carry extra stock to be purchased. This is perhaps the one area they could improve on.

I hope by sharing my experience with you, it can help you in your decision-making process. Congratulations and all the best to a smooth delivery and heathy baby and mummy.

Hi, is there anyone who's given birth at EsH recently via elective c sect with epi or elective c sect wth GA & stayed in a 1 bedder? I hope u dun mind sharing the total bill plus the cash $$.

I'm due for c sect next mth. Thank u!

Hi, I'm due next month too.. Any idea how much cash to pay for 1 bedder, c sect, 3 nights stay? Heard that the hospital has increased their charges recently..

can anyone advise if it is required to bring BF pyjamas or front opening dresses/tops during the delivery?

i will be delivering at parkway east, but the list advises to bring BF pyjamas or front opening dresses/tops for BF. but they would provide hospital gowns too.

can anyone advise whether is it because it wont be easy to BF wearing their hosital gown?

as well, is it necessary to bring breast pump there?

Hi, from my 2 experiences there, I wore the hospital gown only during giving birth. After tat I would change to my own night dress with front buttons for ease of BF. The hospital gowns openings r only at the back so not ez to BF.

For breast pumps, I didn't bring it coz I'll latch on every 2 hrs. I use pumps only when I'm back n my supply start to increase usually after the massages.
