CCharis: I have the motherworks card if you wish to borrow it. Are you eyeing the Stokke Cot? It's rounded right? We thought about it for no. 1 but the cot is rounded and we thought it was going to be too difficult to but sheets - you basically can only buy from the brand itself which adds to the costs.

hi darling mummies! Hows everyone today, such a nice rainy weather over here, so good to cuddle in bed!

serene: Wow 20 people? So fun! ;) Means u also have people babysitting ur boys while u casino-ing? hehe win more!

I m counting down to my trip to HK next monday! Will b back saturday, will spend 2 days at disney with my girl before that! Plan to go stanley street to get some nice fashionable clothes for girl and #2! They also have Gap and carters stuff at factory prices. So excited! hehe

Maid: So coincidental Serene, i went to confirm my maid yesterday, trying on fillipinos for the 1st time after having 4 indo maids. I had a telephone interview with this new maid. The agency at Philippines recommended her leh cos my fren's helper apparently on close terms with the agency there and help me ask them to directly keep a lookout for me according to my preference n then go thru the SG agency to bring her in. Cross my fingers that she is indeed good loh!

U getting from which country?

Ming8110 - Ok, I'll ask from you if I need, cause I am trying to hit the target to get the membership too, but it looks difficult (single receipt 800 and accumulated receipts need 1600 leh) and anyway I saw the Stokke cot, but no lah (hoping for boy gender & thats so sweet) + HB said, at the rate I'm are growing (4months look like 6months) he dont think our NB can even fit into it in the 1st place, hahah! I saw a rectangular white cot, very simple looking de but the price was like fwah!!! Thats why wanna know what is market price for cots loh, as I also wanna get a "you-na" for the baby.

good morning mummies to be,

i went to the spring sales yesterday basically there is nothing. But if u are into stroller there is brands like peg.., maclaren and quinny worth to go there, as well as clothing is 50% off.. but overall i think is too small and i think baby fair will have better things as compared to there...

Ccharis, was catching up on the post saw ur qn on the stokke, yup the basic seat can take new borns.

Stokke cot: That was exactly what i thot when i saw it, lucky never buy, my girl was way heavy at close to 3.8kg when born. I bought a white boori from motherworks instead at abt 1200? I think that was the one u saw. V ex compared to other cots but v worth it cos the wood damn solid. The ones at kiddy is abt 399 but inside the wood hollow one

I think its worth the price cos i have a theory that my girl learnt to walk without support at 10 mths becos of my boori cot. When she heaves herself up in the cot and while she was cruising outside the cot at 7 mths the cot could support her weight, so it was very steady and she gained confidence. Cos to b frank, i never taught her walking much at 7 mths cos i think its too early, i think the boori did it! hehe

When i was at my mum's house for 2 mths when our current hse was undergoing renovation, i bought a 399 cot from kiddy palace for my mum's place. When my daughter tried to grab the grills of the cot to heave herself up, the cot MOVED! and she got a shock! Then sometimes she forgets and leans on the cot, the cot shifted and she almost fell, so i think if a child is learning how to walk in or outside (but near) the cot, u should get a sturdy cot to emphasize her confidence, hence the ex price.

haha since u also looking at the white one and the stokke stroller i think we have similar taste leh. Now the boori is going to b passed down to #2 so i bought our DD to shop for a princess bed. She is damn excited. Saw 1 at casa where the design is the prettiest but it was made of compressed wood instead of hard wood (my hubby din like the hard wood design) but we were ok with the second best material cos my girl is now already 2.5 years old and even if compressed wood still can take her weight mah ;) So i think when they are younger, the choice of materials and products must always give the best leh, when they get older, can compromise a bit cos they are "hardier" just my 2 cents worth ;)

Having said that, casa kids at tampines really got loads of beds n cots to choose from leh.... so mummies who are interested can go, showroom v big, and got a lot of cute accessories to do the nursery up in! ;)

Boori cot: My gf has that too. Nice solid piece.

Motherworks: One of the best things we got from Motherworks was the baby monitor. I can't remember the brand offhand but it comes with video images and you can rig up to 4 different cameras to the unit. So you can either check out your child from different angles or if you have children sleeping in separate bedrooms, you can monitor them that way. Highly recommended. We bought the Avent one before that. It was good too but didn't come with images. It was highly sensitive so much so that it sometimes picked up other sound frequencies in the neighbourhood which I found quite disruptive. So we put that into retirement and bought the other one from Motherworks.

ming: The monitor, u talking abt the Luvion? I agree its very useful with images! ;) I bought it at the taka fair for a pretty good price too, they still sell it in taka but i dunnoe if the price is cheaper now there is no fair. If no motherworks card can use take card loh 6% better than nothing, if not can wait for taka fair again in aug to see got good deal or not ...

Melody - HB and I like classic, clean designs, of course the product has to work as good as it looks, hahah!

I'm thinking if I should get a cot now because we might get a "yo-na" - whats your take in this? Rather, under what circumstances would baby sleep in cot/in the yo-na? As well as stroller and those baby carriers, I was told until give birth then buy (so baby can test, but how true) cause I dont wanna be caught in a situation whereby I need it urgently then have to pay premium price too.

Also, how much is the Luvion before sale? Sounds great!!! Taka should have mid-year sale right? Oh and also, since you have Motherworks de membercard, if I buy things on discount, can I still use it to accumulate for the membership boh?

ccharis, if I don't recall wrongly, I think most big shops that sells baby stuff have the buying list for baby. My friend picked up a list from taka and kiddypalace for me before during my #1 time. You can just ask at the counter, if they have, they will give to you.

About whether yo-na or cot, it really depends on each individual baby. Some babies can sleep very well just placing him/her inside the cot while there are some who prefer someone to cuddle them to sleep so can consider yo-na. However, some mummies said babies can be trained on this area. So it depends too.

Vankel: I chose Phil cos I can't communicate in Malay, so didn't want to choose Indo. Somemore Indo govt always hv weird rules now n then. Latest is maid can't clean windows exterior or hang clothes. Although I dun do either, but agency said their supply of Indo has kinda stopped anyway cos of the 1 May new rulings.

Ming: Wow, 20 pax!! That's amazing. There's only 9 of us. We're driving up but my mil n sil family taking coach. We're gg from 16-20 June. Very long trip hor? We usually go for 4D3N but this time kids requested longer trip cos they know once baby arrive, at least first 9 mths no traveling :-)

Ccharis: The new rulings apply for Indo maids. At the agency I went to, they've temporarily stopped Indo maids cos it's still not a very clear situation. But once the new rulings come into place, the agency fees for Indo maids will likely increase to $1000 plus but no need to give loan to the Indo maid anymore. At the agency I went to, everything's still usual for Phil maids. Pay still $400+, depending on whether got off day or not.

Melody: I'm gg to Genting too but only hv an entourage of 9. Ming's the one wif 20 pax :P
Wow, HK!! One of my fav country for holidays. Enjoy yourself and hv fun 买东西,吃东西,买东西,吃东西 :-)
I'm oso getting a Phil maid. Oso talked to her on the phone yesterday afternoon. Keeping my fingers crossed that she's good too, hope she will not get scared off when she sees my 3 active boys. Haha!! So when's ur maid coming in? Mine's arriving (hopefully) early July if there's no delay wif her passport processing.
Oh yes, we bought 2 sports cars beds for my elder boys at Casa Kidi previously too. I find the pricing there quite good and there were lots of designs to select from.

Ccharis: The yo-na means Yaolan? If yes, we did use it for #1 but stopped for subsequent kids cos the one we had didn't hv auto spring so we had to manually swing it. Very tiring, esp once my #1 was so used to the movement that he woke up the moment it stopped. So my poor hubby literally had to sleep at the edge of our bed wif his hands on the Yaolan, still swinging it in his sleep whenever baby cried. Haha!! So for #2 onwards, he refused to put them in the Yaolan anymore :-)

serenelm, for my #1, we usually put her inside when she's half-asleep. So we just swing it awhile and she will drift into her dreamland. The only function that we really like is.. if she's suddenly awake due to noise or something, its easier for her to drift back with someone swing it. My mum ties a string/rope to the side, so we just need to put the rope when swinging it, much easier. But my girl outgrown the yaolan quite fast, think we put her inside from 2month+ old and we kept the yaolan when she's only 4-5months old cause she preferred to sleep on the bed instead.

kanelmo, Sorry, I forgot if you're the mummy asking about double-deck bed. If you're getting one, please take note of the ceiling height. Especially if you have ceiling fan, cause previously, I used to sleep at the top deck and the space clearance on top can be quite limited.

Raspy: At least ur gal drifted back to sleep easily, that's good. My #1 was very naughty, the moment the Yaolan stopped, he cried, unless he was really in a very deep sleep. So we gave up...

Ccharis: My mum much prefer yao lan cos she say can shape baby's head, we were brought up with yao lan but hubby was brought up with cot, if u buy yao lan u have to either change baby in ur room or buy changing table loh, yao lan cant change baby's diapers mah. The reason i din take yao lan in the end (esp the auto one) was that general feedback from my frens keep rocking baby also not good cos baby next time very dependent on the rocking motion, no rock cannot sleep. I also have the yao lan accessories all BN never use leh, my daughter at 7-8 mths by that time cos my mum kept nagging i wanted to let her try she already not used to it.

Trying on strollers: hehe i dun believe when baby is born he/she can "try on" leh, if u put them in the strollers n they cry most prob becos they r hungry or diapers dirty or they just miss ur hugs.... they dun have really such a variety of "preferences" yet, they are the most pure n untainted and their needs are the simplest then so i dun think they are of much help with choosing ;)

Serene & Ming: Sorry for the mix up in pax, i read too fast, the thread move so fast must speed read mah hehe... serene, 9 pax also got enuf people to take turns n baby sit liao lah
I go HK often abt 4 times a year but the last time my girl went with us, she enjoyed disney so much so kept talking non stop abt it since Nov so now that i m going for babymoon no heart not to bring her disney again leh... she so excited! hehe.... but she has to miss sch for a week loh, last week she also never go sch cos of flu for 1 week.... lucky so young no need MC one ;)

Maid: Mine is coming latest end july also, but i currently have an indo one helping me lah so i not in a rush, hope this one comes later though cos if not 2 maids now and #2 not born i scared not enough things for them to do but the reason why i need the philippines one is becos my daughter's old indo maid who has learnt good english 2 years with us left after contract n my current indo maid abt 6 mths with us english not good so cannot build gd rapport with my girl.

My girl always complain "Fatimah cannot read" "I ask Fatimah , she say she dun noe"... becos of that my girl dun wan my indo to feed or pat to sleep so i have to keep doing that but i scared i cant do that all the time with #2 born cos i want to bf and I dun wan my girl to think #2 take away her mummy time so i hope the filippino maid can build friendship with my girl through activities together and my girl will allow her to substitute me sometimes

Luvion price: woah ccharis u really think my memory so gd ah? I bought 3 years ago u noe but if my memory serves me right, abt 399 or 499 ?

u can also go singtel and buy a package where they provide u with a baby monitor with a sim card inside u can call in the monitor anywhere when u are outside n u can see the baby anytime like face time with baby like that, we bought that also. Came complete with sound output too ;) of cos u have to pay for the "sim card" service like if u own another singtel line also lah

It's been a while since I last log on and so many posts! Just went for a scan on Monday and I am expecting a boy again! 3rd boy..it's going to be male dominated in my family! :-)

I am also going for amnio test next tuesday just to be 100% sure that the boy is ok since my oscar result is borderline...trying to keep as positive as possible...wish us luck!

Melody: Oops, I counted wrongly, shld be 11 pax. But that includes 5 kids :-) nowadays I seldom get to go to the casino cos my #3 sticks to me all the time.
I can understand ur gal's excitement for Disneyland. My boys hv been there twice or thrice but they're still always asking to go again. Kids just love that theme park :-)

Njon n Serene: Aiyah, whats happening wor... those need girl dust have boy dust, those need boy dust have girl dust. #$%^%^%#$ Serene and Njon, pass me some lah, maybe at my 5 mth scan the KKJ appear and come out to show me? Maybe u girls at 5 mths scan see no KKJ and doc say is the cord lah or fingers.....hehehe

Melody: Hmmm, now that u put it this way, perhaps I shld really go and try my luck. Heehee :P
Yah lor, exactly how I feel. Dunno why everyone ard me hv gals while I'm the only one wif all boys??!! Sometimes when I'm at my gynae, I'll think ppl must be wondering why we're still trying for another one wif 3 noisy boys by our side alrdy.
Sure, will pass u all my boys dust happily!! I'm still hoping that at the next gynae visit, my gynae will suddenly tell me tat my baby's actually a gal. Haha!!

Njon: Yah, all those noisy boys in my hse... All the daily fights and quarrels btw my 3 boys and now adding one more to the mix :P
Would u like to post your FB name and email address here? I usually help mummies by asking Novembaby to add them to our FB page. But somehow my PMs are not working.

Njon: Hv written to Novembaby to add u to our FB group.
Yes, there's definitely shouting and fighting in my hse daily. Hv kinda learnt to "tune out" the noises, else will go nuts myself :-)

Joanna: Yes, we're having great difficulty coming up wif names, esp their English names cos we hv rhyming names for our first 3 boys, Gerald, Darryl, Kieryl. We're most definitely running out of nice rhyming names :-(
For Chinese names, the 1st character is the same, so just hv to come up wif a nice 2nd character but oso not easy cos my hubby will count the number of strokes etc.
So the name for the first baby in the family is very impt, if u're planning to hv rhyming names etc for ur subsequent babies. Must think if there are other nice names that u can use for ur next baby :-)

Njon: I agree healthy babies are the most impt, i rather a healthy girl than unhealthy boy but hor humans are greedy... if i can have a healthy child of the gender i want, added bonus loh! hehe...

Serene: Dun care what people think lah noisy 3 boys better than a house no children no noise at all mah.... okok we exchange dust cos i also harbour a bit of hope maybe 5 mth scan doc can see KKJ, big small also ok hehehehe

Serene, tell u harold liao... what to do... ryl or rald or rold limted choices lah lucky u close factory after 4th one liao if not i also worry for ur name choices... my daddy has 5 brothers ah... so u dun think not possible hehehehe.... okok dun scare u just in case u decide to try for the 5th one...

Jo - Motherworks is another shop like Mothercare but IMO they have loads of interesting stuffs, GWC has a store. Oh! Those looking for pregnancy pillow - thats where I got my NewCastle pregnancy pillow too, it's S$178 before member discount.

Raspy - Ok, thanks! I'll go ask for it then but whomever has please upload, would save me a trip, heheh!

As for cot/yo-na, I am hoping that baby would sleep in cot of course but I was recommended to get a yo-na because it's really easy to rock the baby to sleep (however at the same time, I hate my baby to rely on it) so am caught between, any sound advices on which I sound get first, or really have to get both cot and yo-na before delivery huh?

SharonK - Bobian leh, I need to backtrack to update the excel, so might as well read loh, hahahah! If you need picture of the M&S nursing bra, let me know - I bought a pack to standby liao. Actually I need to change le, but I'm really not used to non-wired, sigh...

Giantress - Ya, pretty but not practical loh. Also, the cots sale are only limited to 5pcs/day only right? I wanted a good sturdy one (what Melody said makes alot of sense) but it comes with huge pricetag but the other hand, I'm told BB grow very fast, so either I buy a cot super big or buy a cheap and tahan-able one, I'm torn!

Oekmer - THANK YOU!!! But wah! So many things ah? *faints* and does NB really need playpen too? O_o"

Kanelmo - The sarong thing that rocks baby to sleep. The old school one, that prob most of us grew up in, heheheh! Sorry ah, I dunno the formal name for it...

Serenelm - Yes, yaolan. Honestly I didnt even know these days got auto de, hahaha! Getting so suaku liao... But what you say makes sense loh, I'm also afraid our baby would over rely on the rocking & wouldnt sleep without it. So, since your no. #2 didnt had yaolan, was it easy to coax the baby to sleep in cot?

Melody - So even with the baby harness, I can actually get first right? I'm hoping to get a 1 size fit all ages de, but was told dunno which brand BN best dont use cause you have to put a spacer and makes the bb legs open very wide - well, all these havent got into details so am still not sure but I was just randomly reading for knowledge first. I agree with you on babies being untainted and no standard (hahah!) thats why even making a decision like getting a yo-na also have to twice, triple think. Once hooked, cham liao...

RE: Luvion - Agar agar good enough loh, hahaha! Ok, at least its not super expensive (cause this really sound much more better than alot of monitors I've seen/heard) and anyway wont need ST services, I would be SAHM...

Njon - Yup, I saw - Message already passed on to FB admin liao.

Melody: ure so funny!!! i keep thinking what if when i do detail scan at 5mths. sulky gynae tell me mine is a boy instead of girl which he intially told me 100% confirmed. haha. i will faint. i started to spree baby clothes already. haha...

Serene: ya.. very diff to find rhyming names leh. my first one i came up with her name G'ynez. #2 how to continue... haahaa. give up. think ccharis can start a column and indicate our babies names. hehe..

Serene, how about Zuriel? Speaking of names 'continuity', in our mother's generation, they will break the name series if they hope for another gender for the next one. Like my neighbour, she got 3 daughters, all their names start with Yan-something, until the 3rd one, become something-芬 (芬 sounds like spilt), then really her 4th one is a son. Heehee.. some old myths.

anyone have great webbie to share?

ccharis: oh what is GWC? hmm i think i saw the pregnancy bolster at mothercare yesterday and hubby ask me whether i want.. but does it really helps? i thought normal bolster can le? eh.. pillow and bolster any diff? ehee die duno toking about the same one mah? or issit can be vice versa?

ccharis: Yah lah yah lah u can go get the stroller lah, u r just looking for people to support ur shopaholic mood only ;) okok i support u... hehehe i understand cos with my first one i also like that

U r going to b SAHM? I m already! We still use the ST one also cos sometimes inevitably we have to leave the baby alone with the maid for 2 hours to do quick shopping or something cos also not too good to keep bringing baby out when too young, too many viruses outside, nb immunity pretty low. My maid hor... the not gd one lah, i actually hear her scold my baby at 4 mths when she was crying, maid say "cry what cry? stop crying!" she was like damn fierce loh but in front of us, she seemed pretty loving n gentle to baby... i was like @#%^&*%%$ and 2 mths later her contract ended and she wanted to continue, i never use her. SO the ST was worth it lah cos sign for 2 years, by then the child can articulate, no need already.

Sharon: aiyah to b frank n brutal to myself, very rare doc is wrong lah so the odds are against me rather than u...so u dun worry ok? ;) hehe but one can still hope... if doc wrong abt mine doesnt mean have to b wrong abt urs mah, our doc also different... even if same doc can also see mine wrong and urs correct mah.. so silly u

Raspy: Aiyah serene will scold u @#$%% one lah! NOW then u say must break the continuity... people having #4 already....serene, maybe u try lah, name the child like James or so,ething totally different, sekali u accident #5 is girl! If so remember to tell me hor! But Raspy, lucky I #2 only, actually want them to rhyme one.... now u like that say hor, maybe better sound different lah so my #3 got chance b a boy

Preciousgal: u mean the bolster for legs ah? if u leg cramps often then pretty useful loh, almost like 1 of my life saviors when i was preg with #1 but #2 hor no cramps no backaches leh.... #2 my skin also not good, #1 my skin glow leh, not to mention #2 my tummy much smaller and then i crave for totally different food... aiyah #$%^&^ myths sometimes lie one.... then my mum tell me should b different gender, end up doc say 90% girl....aiyah see lah i blabber again loh, when we talk abt gender hehehe

but normal bolster can le right?
lol.. hahahah toking about this perhaps i wonder isit true for those who already know the gender?

1) if u are craving for sweets, is a girl
2) if u craving for meats or cheeses, u are having a boy?

den what preg pillow is? and what does it helps?

I also want to get a pregnancy pillow! After my scan next week if everything. Not that I have tried it before but using a pillow and a bolster to try to achieve the same effect just doesn't seem to work. Also, I read that with the pillow, it helps the baby to get into the optimal position for labor, thereby shortening labor times. Wonder how true is it but I guess worth a try!

Hello everyone!

My kiddo is a boy. I was even doubtful that it was a boy and had to confirm that it was the 'birdie' and not the umbilical cord.

The hubby is super excited, since he finally has some one to watch soccer with. Strange how man always say, "aiyah, baby healthy okay. boy or girl is fine with me." But then when they know of the gender, then it's like WAH!!! Happy. But the mummy wants a girl. Meh.

@nyctora & serenelm: I feel a little more assured that the strange on-going pain ain't something abnormal. Nyctora... our hubby is right, the baby is trying to remodel the house to feel super comfy. Serenelm... I woke up abruptly in the middle of night too! I think the kiddo was practising karate.

When I did the scan, my baby was doing headstands (seriously, he was on his head and trying to prop his feet upwards) and attempted to do cartwheels. He flipped around so many times! Not to mention at the expense of my comfort. My tummy was feeling painful throughout the scan.

@Raspy: I think Kao is overwhelmed with orders. They took a picture of their many boxes and sample packs. Ha, I don't mind getting samples, but I would really want to win the 6 months free diapers!

@Tammy: My relatives said the opposite thing! When I was 14 weeks, (I don't think I really look that pregnant) but being petite, my tummy looked a little out of proportion... so they were so sure it was a boy! Coz they say, boy have strong bones... so mummy's tummy will be bigger. Actually, it really is a matter of how much exercise one does before being pregnant and how much your intestines will give way to the growing kid. In other words, you were really fit to begin with and so the tummy will not show that easily.

@ccharis: I think tape diapers refer to those you need to tape at the side. Not like the pull-up pants type. I think walker pants is the pull-ups. I could be wrong, but that is the only logical explanation that I can think of. Haven't been shopping for diapers so I never really noticed. =)

Hi mummies, anyone heard of any food/drink to consume or avoid after amnio? Cos I'm doing it on Fri and then bedrest on sat and sun... hope all will be well and I that can know baby's gender too.

Went to Spring Maternity (not the sale) to get bottoms but ended up with one bottom and 2 work dresses. Bo bian need to spend cos can't really wear too casual for work and my pre-preggie size already bigger than ave its qt hard for me to buy any normal clothes in bigger sizes haha. There is 10% off with UOB Lady's Card. I also saw clothes that are 20-50% off in the boutique.

Val: just met a friend earlier and she said the same thing as your relatives! Her tummy when she was expecting her girl was well concealed whereas when she had her boy was super protruding. Oh well... Old wives tales are true 50% of the time ya ;)

Joanna: I'm expecting a boy and crave chicken wings all the time. Used to not be able to resist desserts, but not liking it this pregnancy. Looks like that old wives tale is true for me..

Thanks all mommies for tips on what brands are better, can't wait to check it out this weekend with hubby! Looks like motherworks is prob a good place to start... :-)

Btil, breathe.... !!I think your mum is worried that's why she rather you don't go for the vacation. You must be disappointed after looking forward and planning the babymoon. But if both mum and hubby are too worried, maybe have staycation in Singapore, eg Sentosa? Of cos its different from travelling but its some away time from work and whatever at home. I recommend Capella, been there and the room is just awesome you don't even want to step out.

At least staycation no need to take plane your mum will feel more at ease. And the money saved on an o/seas trip, use it to buy something pampering for yourself, eg a nice wallet.. heehee

Quinny: I eat per normal after amnio. Only avoid the standard 'liang' stuff. Most importantly, bed rest at home, the nurse told me walking in house is okay. Bathing is okay. But, dun get out of the house for two days. Also, avoid doing any household chores or carry heavy stuff. So, I literately din do anything except for eating, laying on bed, bathing and some walking within my flat.

@tammy: yea it is 50% true. =) it's like how according to the 'lunar calendar' i'm suppose to have a girl gauging by my EDD or by the date of conception. totally tickled by it.

@btil: it is important to have the understanding of your hubby above all things. sometimes my hubby also don't know why i'm getting all cranky. so it helps to crack jokes or make the hubby laugh so he'll be on your side. sometimes i drag the kid in or i do a little jig to get my way... it has work thus far.

taking a night walk or a dinner date with the hubby can be good too. =) just away from the busyness of work. at the end of the day, we oct mums are here to give you morale support. so need be so flustered. we all understand what you are going through...

Thanks Keiko, I think that's what I'll do. Simply rest on the bed most of the time. As long as no special dietary requirement that's easy. Is your amnio results out?

Val: My tummy was very big for my #1 girl, pretty small now even though doc say 90% girl, so old wives tale dun work for me.

As for gender, u can never please anyone ;) hubby wants this but the mummy wants another, really wats most impt is health lah n of cos the child's character . Girl or boy doesnt determine ur ease of life as a parent, so as long as u n hubby r happy just look forward to the new healthy life lah! ;)

Preciousgal: haha for my #1 i crave sweets, a lot of them for #2 i crave meat n cheese since week 3... so not accurate for me.

Pregnancy pillow: I think can hug like a bolster but i use it as a leg rest, my bolster still use back my norm one cos the preg pillow more useful to relieve cramps for me, i cant have 2 on the bed mah, these pillows are so big! hehehe

chapa: yaya, most probably will be getting zapp xtra and maxi cosi too! :-) May i know how much u bought it? Is it good? I haven't personnally try it yet. But i view their website and kinda like the design. My hubby tried it and like it but not sure whether he really know how to choose not :P

He is currently outstation to holland now, i will be joining him for babymoon at mid of May. Thinking to get zapp xtra there cos Quinny is a Holland brand and we checked the price, it is selling at EUR170. But bringing back is a problem too. So if it is cheaper here, might as well just buy here.

Baby gender: Me and my hubby both prefer girl! So we are so glad to know that our wish comes true! I have 3 nieces and 2 nephews, i still find girl sweeter, cuter and behave better. That 2 boys are just too energetic. Haha!

Btil: I understand staycation n vacation is a different thing still n u are disappointed cos u were so looking forward. Does ur mum know that 2nd tri is pretty safe to travel? If ur doc is supportive maybe u can tell ur mum to ease her mind? She worried abt what? U being on the plane? Go somewhere near loh... how abt hmm KL or Bintan dun need to take plane one?

As for hubby n u, i think its just a miscommunication, he dunnoe u were planning for this weekend. Maybe u can plan for the few weekends after? we r still very early in 2nd tri so still have a lot of room to plan for babymoon. ;)

Melody: Aiyoh, dun dare to try for #5 liao le. Getting too old for another pregnancy, can definitely feel the difference btw now and my previous ones. My hubby dun like Harold leh. Sigh, will keep searching...

Ccharis: After the tiring yaolan experience wif #1 and his over-reliance on rocking to sleep (either in yaolan or in our arms), we were very careful wif #2 and #3. We instructed everyone who carried our babies nvr to rock the babies. Instead they could sway their own bodies slightly. Cos it's very tiring to rock the babies in our arms once they get heavier. Imagine having to rock a 10kg baby in ur arms to sleep!! Since baby wasn't exposed to rocking since infancy, they managed to sleep without much fuss. #2 relied mainly on pacifier to sleep while I was the "pacifier" for #3, haha...
Read that u're looking for baby carriers too? Initially I used Moms In Mind baby sling for my #3, quite good to use once u learn how to secure it. Then once baby was ard 2+ mths, I oso started using Baby Bjorn Synergy baby carrier. I loved it very much cos so easy to put baby in and just go. Weight oso spreads equally amongst my shoulders. But once baby reached 10kg, I started having shoulder pains, cos I'm quite small size (1.6m and 43kg). So relied more on stroller then. But when traveling, I still brought along both MIM baby sling and Baby Bjorn for places where it's tough to push stroller.
My gal friend did recommend me Ergo baby carrier, saying the weight is distributed towards hips instead, so better, no shoulder or back pains. But it's better for babies that are a few mths old, instead of infants. I didnt buy though cos alrdy spent a bomb on my Baby Bjorn, think hubby will kill me if I go buy another baby carrier, heehee...

Sharon: Yah, quite difficult to rhyme for yours too. Maybe hv same starting alphabet instead - G? Else totally dun rhyme or hv any similarities at all. Save all the trouble :-)

Raspy: Argh!! Where were u when I had my #3 (like Melody said)??!! Someone shld hv told me that then, now indeed too late le :-( **sob sob**
We're thinking of Xarryl or Zarryl now but dun really fancy it very much yet, pretty similar to what u suggested.

Joanna: No choice, cos can't leave out #4 after having rhyming names for his 3 brothers. But I've got a 冲动 to name him Kieran to rhyme wif #3 instead. Heehee... But hubby said not fair to him :-(

Val: Exactly, men always say anything oso can. But I could sense my hubby's excitement when our firstborn was a boy. But now it's #4, he actually said "Oh shit!!" when gynae told him that baby's a boy again. What a big difference in reaction. Hahaha :D

Btil: I agree wif Quinny, a staycation in Singapore (eg, Sentosa) would be nice too, I had initially wanted to book either Sentosa hotel for staycation or the Downtown East chalet for BBQ, but hubby and kids preferred Genting instead cos got casino and theme park :-)

Any mummies got recommendation for cheaper body pillow? Those sold at maternity shops are also expensive, dun want to spend so much if I can save :-(

serenelm, your hubby's reaction is so funny! haha... my hubby always wanted a girl. but now he says whichever is ok. easy for him to say, since only #2 haha.. sometimes i think if 3 and more kids of same gender is kind of pre determined by fate/ hubby's body.. nothing we can do :p

Serine, It look stylish, the switchable rear facing seat and different recline modes are cool. The 3wheels are easy to manoeuver and its very compact when folded. Its alot lighter than Buzz and the handle is at perfect height for me and hus. I got the whole set including Maxi Cosi for only $800, think it's quite gd deal. We wanted to purchase from Europe initially cause my sis is there and she's using that as well but shipping fee alone already cost $200.

Meiting & Tammy: Mine is a boy.. My tummy start showing since wk 13 to 14 le.. But still not v obvious.. Is like those between fat tummy or preggy.. So ppl will think is I’m fat more dan preggy lo.. My colleagues oso no ask me abt it.. Maybe they think I out on weight bah.. Except for one.. Think he will spread the news for me..

Ccharis: Yr gynae so nice!!! Envy to the max!!

Njon: Congrats!!

Nijon: The amino test will only take couple of minutes. Thereafter, u need to lie on bed and rest for abt 30 minutes. My gynae give me an injection and do a scan to ensure the baby is ok before I leave the clinic. I was given medicine too. My gynae gave me 2 days MC but I also took leave too. Read it is better to rest for at least 72 hrs. My cost is abt $1.8K, include both prelim and full results. Can't deduct from medisave as I did it in my gynae's clinic.

Good Morning Mummies

Melody & Serenelm, Ooops.. this is just old wife tales. Don't know if they really works. Just something to ponder when thinking of our precious name. To me, I still prefer name continuity. Hee.. sound more like siblings to me. The folk last time are quite extreme, like some naming their daughter 'zhao di', 'yao di', 'lai di' etc, hoping for a son in the next preg. Don't think our generation still follow this. :-)

May, How long will you be there? So envy.. I didnt have a babymoon for my #1 and now with #2 coming, I doubt we will have any holidays until at least 2yrs.

Btil, Cheer up. Guess your mum is concerned with your well-being. Cause during their generation, preggie are not supposed to move around much and they didnt have much info about pregnancy. Like my mum told me, last time, they never even have such thing call scan. So its really until birth, then they know the bb gender and health condition. For hb, he's probably worried too, cause you lost wt and looked pale during 1st trim. Maybe like what the other mummies suggest, to go for a short nearby trip or staycation. Otherwise, you might want bring the two of them to your gynae and let them hear from the gynae that its safe. Its just the start of our 2nd trim, still got time to plan. Don't fret, smile smile! :-)

Morning All!

Melody: Yes, I am talking about the Luvion baby monitor. We love it! I didn't know Taka carries it too.

Ccharis, Joanna: We paid $900 plus for the baby monitor but that is because we bought an extra camera thinking we could either use it in a different room or monitor my daughter from different angles. It works very well when we have friends over and their kids are sleeping in a different room from my daughter. Frees the adults to have their chats and food downstairs :-)

Genting: Yes, I am the one going with 20 pax. We are chartering a coach to bus everyone up and back. 1st time taking a road trip with the extended clan and hope it is fun for everyone.

Babymoon: My daughter's PD just told us last night that Club Med Maldives is having a promotion now - 2nd adult travels for free. So tempting. But my hubby thinks Maldives is not that safe at the moment after the President got overthrown last year. Sigh. Guess it will have to be Chiang Mai for us. At least the weather will be cool. I hope so anyway :-)

Morning Ladies!

I walked too much during labour day and woke up with aches and soreness and cramps. In the end had to bedrest the whole day yesterday.
Trying to read up all the posts! haha

ming8110
I'm aiming for manduca carrier as well. Is it really good? Can I start using it for newborns?
Do you know if it's worth it to get the limited edition ones? I noticed that it's fully organic cotton. But not sure if the normal one will suffice?

raspy
Thanks!
I'm already telling my hubby to get more neutral coloured stuffs. Haha, but I don't think I can resist pinky stuffs la.

Where to get those tie string pieces? I don't recall seeing them in dept stores. Or maybe I was too focus on bodysuits haha

melody & serene
Enjoy your babymoon. So nice la. How I wish I can go too. I think we can only go for staycation. Haha

Njon
Good luck for your amino. Don't stress!

Joanna
I crave for cheese. Dun like meat. But dun like sweets hahahaha.

Btil
Try listening to music? I find that it helps me to relax when I'm feeling down. It also helps the baby too. I think the hubby usually can't understand what we are going thru. But talk to him when you don't feel so down ok?
I'm also not opting for vacation but staycation cos I know this baby was not easy for me, at least in SG, I know where to go, who to go.

Luvion baby monitor
Is it really good? I need to buy 1 too, there are so many in the market haha.

Pregnancy Pillow
I bought the dreamgenii from gmarket.
http://list.gmarket.com.sg/item/DREAMGENII-DREAMGENII-PREGNANCY-SUPPORT-AND/402618277
Cheaper than mothercare. But I don't find it useful leh, maybe cos I dunno how to use it?

Detailed Scan
Anyone doing detailed scan? Mine's next sat. What should I be expecting ah? Do I need to ask questions? Hhaha

Jo - Paiseh, GWC stands for Great World City. I think there are a few kinds of pregnancy pillow (of different shapes: S-shaped, U-shaped, etc...) and I got the U-shaped from NewCastle because it triples up as a baby safety pillow as well as a support pillow when he/she learns how to sit. So in a way I feel it's more worth spending lah.

Normal bolster works the same but because we dont use bolsters at home, so replacing with pillows means I have a few pieces to shuffle nightly & they fall off easily so very pekchek for me, esp when I toss and turn. I wanted something long so I could kiap in between my legs yet hug at the same time. If you have bolster, start trying it loh cause it might just work then you save the moolahs.

Melody - Wahahahahahha! Unfortunately I am barred till June then can buy (my BFF ask me wait for GSS, Taka BabyFair, Kiddy Palace & Mothercare Sales) cause these are the ones worthwhile & also HB say buy so early for what, at home no place to put yet (we're still trying to make space, slowly tidy up for the new arrival) so looks like I still need to curb my urges, ugh!

Yes, HB thinks it would be better for me to be SAHM, cause we are just too anal & anti-maids, anyway his work is flexible, so I'll always have his help, thank God. Only for my confinement, I would move to my Mum's place with a CL then from them I would pick up the ropes loh.

Angelsky - Thanks! Ok, then time for me to ask for samples too, hehhhehe!

Quinny - Best to consult your Gynae. But as a general rule of thumb, more bed rest!

Btil - My twin, really have to blame on our surging hormones, it's quite a difficult battle to win but for me, I always go to sleep when I start to feel down. Also, do understand that as we are pregnant and moody - our poor HB goes through "pregnancy" too, in fact I read they also would experience moodswings too.

Sorry for probing but how's your r/s with your Mum? If you can talk to her nicely then explain to her (I'm sure she would understand cause she has been through pregnancy too mah) cause I am sure she is just worried/concerned about her dear daughter you... But as for me, siblings worked a greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat deal! I have an elder sister (she has 2 kids of her own). My Mum is gunpowder (neednt elaborate) & she gave birth to a TNT (me) so whenever we talk, guarantee explosion. Since the start of my pregnancy my sister had been the "extinguisher" and she would always be able to coax my Mum citing that I am big and can make my own decisions already then when I am not around (my Mum goes to my Sis place daily) she would explain to my Mum on my behalf why I made those decisions, sweet!

As for HB, were you planning a surprise trip? I cant really comment on this because my HB is on the extreme opposite, he has been thinking of all sorts of places to go but I just think I might not be game enough. I do pity him cause we had always been doing things together & now he seemed bored and alone. Esp. driving but sway sway I kenna motion sickness!

I personally feel everything boils down to communication, in as much as we cant really hold a proper conversation these days with our erratic moods but it's the more we should speak (or even fight) it out. Bottling inside doesnt feel good, what's more when you have a BB inside you? That feeling is worse! These days HB and I end up quarreling too, but after the storm, we make it a point to apologise to each other - for me, I always blame on hormones (hahah!) for him, he would also explain to me that it's due to unprepared pregnancy & stress, we just have to accept it and move on. Dont bear grudges, thats very very important in a marriage.

Serenelm - So much knowledge goes into just a baby carrier!!! Freaks out! I told myself I could only get 1 carrier (cause knowing if I dont, I would end up buying all the carriers in the market) so I force myself to "research" hard.

Chapachic - Sorry for interrupting but the Zap Xtra looks really cool! But I have a question, I did a search, it seemed like it comes with the Maxi Cosi car seat - is it a package? Because I'm only keen in the stroller, and any idea how much would it cost for stroller alone?

May - Eh! Dont wasted! Let Melody's bird bird fly to me can or not, wahhahah! Ya, I like my Gynae so much, now looks like I have to "sacrifice" to give birth in TMC instead of Mt E because of her (this year based in homeground).

Rae2 I was told by the counter staff after amnio test is done that it will takes 10 working days (ie two weeks)

Njon As what Kitty01 mention, the whole procedure including the scanning takes about 10 min or less. The actual procedure of withdrawing the fluid takes abt 2-3 min only. It is not painful to me, I feel that blood test is more painful as it cause me to have bruises for a week.
I did mine at TMC. We can use medisave for this procedure up to $750 (abt $500-hospital charges and abt $250-doctor fee). I need to top-up for another $300+ including medication. I was given 5-day of antibiotic and duphaston. I was given three days sick leave.

Reineluv: Thanks :-)

Ccharis: I'm oso waiting for the Mothercare, Taka Baby Fair and GSS to buy too, cos the savings would be a lot, esp for items like strollers etc.

reineluv, I got quite some hand-me-downs from my inlaws that time. I only bought 1 set of newborn tie string for her to wear when she discharged with me. Heehee.. these pieces are quite cheap, think only 2/3bucks, we bought at cheong choon. Its a baby shop at chinatown, highly recommended by the mummies in my #1 thread that time. Hb and I went there and bought almost all the bb stuff (bb top and bottom, plastic mat, bb bean pillow, bb hole pillow, pigeon bottle washer, pigeon laundry lotion, bb lotion, bb bath and shampoo, cloth diaper, breast pump, bb scissor etc..) and they delivered all the stuff to my place. Very convenient for us.

RE: BB Carrier
We also had a hand-me-down from my inlaws, but its pretty worn-out and not good to use as I had backache/shoulder-ache from it. We later returned to them cause my sil was also preg later. And we bought bb bjorn miracle. Its quite good and the weight was distributed to the hips. Relief the shoulder and back from the weight.

I also read that Manduca was good. I tried it with my girl when we are at the shop. My girl hates it, cause it doesn't allow her to face the front. She had wanted to face the front since young and refused to turn inwards. I understand that some babies are ok with facing inwards, so Manduca is really good. But if you got baby like mine, then Manduca might not work for you. So I think its depending on baby preference.

Serenelm - Let me know if you have any heads up!

All - I dunno if I should share this or not, doesnt seemed quite appropriate but I see it as inspirational to a certain extent. Read on if you are keen: the 5 month old baby which was predicted to have 18 months of lifespan dies, sobs! http://averycan.blogspot.com/

Actually we all have little fighters in us!

By the way, Manduca seems to be more for bigger babies. Newborns seems to be very small in it, not much support for newborns, unless they got some add-on for newborn support. You can check it at the store, they will open the box and let you try on. Don't be shy to wear and try. :-)

cheong choon sounds good haha. Can I pay by credit card there? Perhaps we'll drop by and take a look.

I was deciding between bjorn and manduca, manduca has an insert for newborns and I read really good reviews on it hence decided on manduca.
Does bjorn allows baby to face both inwards and outwards?

ccharis
I'm actually quite excited about the scan, dunno what to expect! I read that you should drink some orange juice to wake the baby or something hee.

Reineluv: Yes, the Baby Bjorn Synergy model that I'm using allows baby to face inwards or outwards.

ReineLuv - Sour the baby up? Hehehe.. I was told it's somewhat similar to OSCAR just that it's more extensive so drinking water would once again push the waterbag up for better view so I might agree with you, add a little sourness, the baby would be more active, hahaha!

Can you also help me check that 20th week detailed scan includes compulsory scanning of baby gender? Thanks!

Morning mummies-to-be!

My appetite has grown so much it frightens me. First was morning sickness for a full month. Then I'm always hungry the moment I wake up and it's non-stop eating in the morning ever since then. Doesn't help that the kid loves meat and carbs! He has also taken a liking to fried chicken. And I don't really like chicken!!! Sobs... can't imagine trying to lose all those weight after birth.

@Melody: One thing is consistent (at least for my family)... my complexion got real terrible... so my hubby knew it was a boy. my mummy and my sister had two girls and they were flawless for both pregnancy. I'm not sure if the oct mums experience the same syndromes as me. GAH... I can't even do facial as my skin is so sensitive now.

@serenelm: at least you can tell your hubby that his 'male' sperms were really eager to compete with the 'female' sperms. your boys must be active and healthy!

I can't imagine having 4 boys. I grew up in a family of girls (my dad was the only guy in the family for a long long time). My sister said that if I get all boys, my nieces will thank me for passing them my jewellery and bags. I'm so going to try to have a girl somehow...

Btil: Just remember to tell the GP that u're pregnant. They will know what medicine can give to pregnant ladies. If still worried, can call up ur gynae clinic to tell them the names of the medicine prescribed by the GP to confirm that it's indeed safe for pregnancy. For flu, I usually take the small yellow flu tablet, chloropheramine (not sure correct spelling or not) and for fever, the normal pink color panadol. These two confirmed safe by my gynae. U take care, drink lots of water :-)

Melody: Yah lor, what my hubby said has become a classic. My gynae is probably repeating it to all his patients, haha :D
I'm shopping for new stroller cos the current one is alrdy very worn out after being used by #2 and #3. Oso getting some new clothes n face towels, cos I actually threw out all those yellowed or stained clothes previously, thinking that we wun be having any more baby. Now left a few good pcs in my storeroom only. Oso getting new mittens n booties cos the old ones alrdy loosened after repeated wear, only a few good
pairs left too. I'm a Shoppaholic lah, anything oso can buy de, anything oso can find excuse (erm, no, shld be reason, sounds more legitimate) to buy de (as my hubby always says). When i buy a new dress, i'll need a new pair of shoes to match etc etc etc.... heehee :P

Hi Kitty01 and Keiko,

Thanks for sharing info on Amnio.
I was referred to Camden hospital for the Amnio test by my gynae and the charges were 2.5K with $750 deductable by medisave...I find that the charges are abit steep so looking around for cheaper alternative...

Do you have recommendation for other experience gynae who could do Amnio at a cheaper price?
