Hi i have bring my boy for the 18 months injection & check up. When measure his head circumference, the nurse say his head measurement jump from 75% to 95% which is unusual. Hv c the doc after that, the doc also say it unusual & refer me to KKH which is still long way to wait as all fully book. He measurement nw is 50cm, is it too big? His daddy also belong to big head type leh.

My DS is 4+ years old now... I can't remember his exact circumference, but I know he's always at the higher percentile. The first thing people say about him is his head so big, but so far no doc has refer him yet.

Did the doc explain what are his concerns abt your boy?

I think the concern is not so much as in a big head but rather a sudden jump from 75% to 95%. It could mean something, that's why the dr ordered for checks.

My boy also has a big head. His head is in the 75% while his ht and wt is only 3%.

The doc nv say anytin leh, she jux say nt normal & refer him to KKH liao. Wat i scare is his brain will hv fluid...the doc say it can be everytin is normal, juz to check earlier to prevent any complication later...

Hi Joanne,

Ya, if it's sudden jump, then it's not normal. Better go check.

Look @ my son.......since Nov'07, his weight neber gain till last april08 then gain little by little ..... now, i tik maybe weighing ard 14kg ! He still on diapers - MP tape L size & Nepia p/up pants (size BIG)... my cousin always teased my son's hand width, same size of a matchbox !

His KKH dr more concern for his weight than head thing.

Hi,

My 16mths old DS's head is big too commented by the pdae. However, he said I need not worry as long as he is able to balance himself, could walk and run, could babble a few words like mama, baba... shld be fine.

If we are very concerned, he will refer us to see a specialist. Anyway, we did not seek for specialist, old folk said big head is a good sign. He may turn out to be very clever. Hope so lah...

Mimgoh, my son in the beginning also refuse to use potty, will cry like hell when c me take out his potty. Bring him go toliet, he also cry like hell, refuse to pee, wear back his pant only pee out. Make me so mad at him, as i can only train him during weekend, so no choice slowly slowly lor. Will punish him when he pee or poo on the floor without telling us, make him take cloth clean up his urine & poo himself, slap his buttock hard hard, let him remember & tell him to touch his penis when wan urine, make ng ng sound when wan poo. After a few time, he auto when wan pee he will come to u & touch his penis...nd patience la.

I remember reading somewhere that as long as you kid's is constant in the growth (example 50% at birth continue in that percentile) there is no worries. What PD are worried of is growth rate reduce which could mean brain not developing well or sudden increase which could be fluid in the brain, then they will prescribe test to confirm .

Hi, Sorry to inform you that if your child head is bigger than his body, then u should consult the doc asap to have a scan. It is because my daughter's head is bigger than her body when she was 2 yrs old. I did not get any advise from anyone including doc. After 3 yrs later, she was diagnosed from brain tumor. It happened out of a sudden that she has side effect. I was very sad till now cos i missed her very much. Hope you have a clearer pic rather than guessing here & there.
