I am comtemplating to give my second baby soy milk instead of usual FM. Given the fact that it has much lesser sugar content that produces phlegm. At the same time worry about it might have lesser nutrition value than FM.
Does anyone has any advice to offer? |

Hi Jessica,
Is there any reason why you are not considering to breast feed? Breastmilk has so much more nutrients (thousands) that even the FM can't have no matter how the manufacturers fortify them with this and that. Not to mention that the more you breast feed your baby exclusively, the less likely they are to have allergies in future. Personally, I would encourage you to BF since it's mother nature's best gift to your little one... 
Anyhow, I would not encourage you to give soy milk over FM unless your baby has allergy issues. I have heard of girls (who were on total soy milk) who had early puperty due to the estrogen content in soy milk. Imagine the impact if ur baby is a boy?
This is what I learnt in anetenatal class, in order of what is best for baby:
1. Direct Latch (Breast Milk)
2. Expressed Breast Milk
3. Donated Breast Milk
4. Formula Milk (Cow's)
5. Soy Milk
6. Goat's Milk

Hi Jessica,
Is your bb allergy to FM? My gal is 3yrs old now. She is having soy milk now. My gal has serious diarrhoea when she is 4mths old. From than on, i have been giving her soya milk. I have also consult her pd regarding on the change frm FM to soy milk. The pd told me that she can consume soy milk.
So she had been drinking soy milk for 2yrs nw. She is progressing well.

Hi
I only give my son soya based milk when he is sick i.e having cough with phelgm. As I heard that normal formulae milk produced too much phelgm in babies. Once he is well I will switched back to the normal formulae milk. If you read the nutrients content as compared soya based milk had some of the nutrients missing which I personally feel is not so good for the baby's development. Of course, breastmilk is still the best if you can continue to give your baby. |
