Hello Mummies,

Besides Choz and Sweet Surprises, do you know of other shops in Singapore that sells unique and delicious pastry that we could give out during baby full month celebrations?

What's the average cost for the cakes that we buy? Who must we give? All relatives? Colleagues?

mrs chng,

if u have full month celebration, u may want to give cakes to relatives who cannot come...

if u dun intend to have full month celebration, u may want to distribute cakes to relatives and colleagues....

some families have full month celebration, but will also distribute cakes to all the relatives...

so far, I only recieve full month cakes from collegues and relatives....normally dun distribute cakes to friends but just invite them for buffet treat, etc...

on average, a full month cake package ranges from $6-$12...can also give tarts, mini cakes etc...

another suggestion is to buy the bengawan solo card, they can use it any time to exchange for the cake or even change to whatever items they like...

Hi Mummies,

Let me know if anyone has tried Baby Bliss before ... I'm contemplating of either using them or sweet surprizes ... however, it seems like Swee Surprizes have more readily tried and tested customers

My colleague told me she also got cakes from them 12yrs ago!

For me, I ordered from them in Feb for my son's full month.

melrose is good. I got the fruits tarts cum red eggs combination and the buffet from that. Thumbs up. Fruit tarts so much much better than those from choz. Service wise alright.

Choice of fruit tarts: Don't like to receive cakes cause difficult to finish and can be quite dry. think choice of ang ku kueh or glutinous rice is depends on baby gender (heard from MIL).

For colls: I get bengawan solo cards. more versatile like a voucher.

Hi Mummies
Just wondering how you go about giving the cakes? Esp to colleagues. DO you give them to close colleagues only? or those that give us presents and stuff only? Cos' now I am in the midst of ordering and having a headache about who to give?

What about bosses? Do we give them one set for themselves? Wld appreciate any comments. Thanks! :-)

If u r working in a big co and not distributing cakes to all, will suggest you to distribute cake vouchers discreetly instead.

U do not have to lug so many boxes of cakes to the office as well.

I've rec'd the cakes from Kyo today, their Thank you cards were really nicely done up with bb's pic and a short message from mum and dad.

The sponge (no butter)marble cake was nice and soft, not so sweet, prefer no butter as it's less fattening and don't feel so "ni" if u eat more than 1 pc. Glutinous rice is yummy too but ang ku kueh skin is abit hard, not so nice. Both cake and glutinous rice rec'd good compliment.

Hi mummies, can i know how do you count baby's full month, using chinese or english calendar? Some aunties say baby girl celebrate few days earlier than the actual day? Some say baby boy gives glutinous rice and baby girl no need.

my colleague just passed the cakes from cupcake-momma website. It's really colourful and beautiful but I don't take the cream. The chocolate cupcake itself is not too sweet and heavy. quite nice.
I am still thinking if I should order cakes or just buy the cards from begawan.

Mongs,

i gave the colleagues (big groups) in my office, fruit tarts/cake from Melrose. Then those individuals from other offices, I gave them Bengawan solo cards... it's fuss-free also. cos they can claim from any outlet and it's valid for 1 year.

for my frens, i sent the cards via post too. if sending by post, please use extra envelop to cover the card so as to prevent the postman to steal it. this is what i did.

hope the info helps.

u can try Gobi desserts at http://www.gobi.com.sg .. I gave their packages as thank-you gifts to my wedding helpers when I got married and the choc cakes are very nice. U can pick and choose the combinations of cakes you want. Think the 6-box is about 12 bucks. On a budget, u can give the 2-pc box which is 4.80.. this one has a more limited choice of types of cake due to the smaller size of the box but it looks and tastes really good nonetheless.
They can also personalize for you (putting in a card with name and message) but I think this will cost extra. Alternative, you can always print ur own cards and stick on the outside of box.
However most of the cakes need refrigeration.

Any significance to the food in the full mth celebration box? Like boy or gal..ah ku kuehs, glut rice...

Do we have to select certain food for gals and boys?

The box for full month cakes are normally blue for boys and pink/red for girls.

Yes, if the tradition type then will give "ang gu kueh" for baby girls and "ang nyee" for baby boys.

Bladers,

Ang gu kueh is red, round and flat looking. Ang nyee is also red but pointed looking (A bit like bun). Just go to any market selling these stuff and ask them to show u the dif.

gave birth in april 2008 and ordered some gift boxes from this company One Joy. for MTBs considering doing a modern gift box, i'd like to recommend them.

http://www.one-joy.com/

I ordered the Little Precious design with Package K. Ordering was hassle free. Company called to confirm details before delivery. They could deliver items in 3 working days. Delivery was prompt and was made in the morning - i needed to distribute in the afternoon. No printing mistakes made. Most importantly, product was professionally and nicely done, very presentable. Many of the recepients commented that the box looked really expensive. this is a good option other than the usual cake and tart boxes, esp. if storage of perishable food items is a problem.

Anne, normally people give 2 or 4. even number. but I've heard before that some traditional people give even number for boys, odd number for gals. In such a case, the glutionous rice dumpling is pointed fr boys, and blunt for gals.

Instead of Bengawan solo, sweets secret, polar and famous amos cookie, anyone has other suggestions for vouchers to give out instead?

Hi fellow moms, just to add my 2 cents' worth.
-Previously, I ordered fm Bengawan Solo, standard, no surprises but also no disappointments. No min. order needed as well.
-My friend ordered fm Sweetest Moments this June & was v happy with the taste + packaging.
-Recently received a beautiful package fm Partridge Pear. Looks so gd, but products all expiring within 1-2 months & taste terrible. Threw most away after few bites.
-Now considering Prima Deli 'cos need to cater for halal frens, so ltd choices. If anyone has other halal options, pls share, thks!

Hi all, we just celebrated our baby girl's full month today. We got a choc cake from sweet secrets - really good and better than just standard butter cakes I believe. The quality is there. Gifts wise, we headed for Partridge Pear. Very impressive packaging and reasonable price. They were featured on Straits Times last month so we thot we'll give it a shot. Turned out to be truly good. A pleasant surprise amongst colleagues and friends. Almond chocs, butter cookie and fruit gummies are yummy. Very westernized concept, different items from the usual full month gifts. I received one similar pack from One-joy previously and the quality of sweets and stuff is the same. All in all, a pleseant surprise for the younger folks but may not be too suitable for older aunties and uncles I guess. So we got them cakes : )

I am contemplating of either ordering the full month packages either from Melrose or Choz. Any reviews? Any comments on Melrose's buffet?

My hubby's friend ordered from Melrose for his son's full month, and the cakes and all were ok. They are very afforable too. But i think iread that their buffet is not very good in another thread in the forum.

I just use Choz for my second child. Most commented tartlets and ang gu kueh are very nice compared to Melrose which is used for my first child. I like the Choz new packaging also which looks like a shopping bag.

For those budget moms who are not so particular about packaging (as long as there are yummy cakes to give) and you have Muslim friends, you can try Blossoms cake house. Its halal and its quite cheap. The cakes are not that bad

http://www.blossoms.com.sg/catalog/images/Babys1stMonth2008.jpg

You can click on the pic for a clearer view

I was looking for halal cakes for my Muslim colleagues and I found them :-) great that they are affordable too!

ultimately this is really a personal choice so u need to decide urself

anyway for myself in terms on convenience i always prefer the cake vouchers
u can even mail them out instead of delivering personally to those pple who didnt turn up or missed out

i think it will b quite a chore to organise a catering as well as cakes...

do u always finish distributing all the cakes? or sure left some behind?

how did u settle the extra cakes?

There are no extra cakes, only order what is needed. Must plan transport cos all must be distributed within the day. Generally, most ppl do not give out cakes if they are having a celebration. They just choose one.

The Crayfish in sambal also another favourite with the guest. Many went for 2nd serving.
Nonya mee siam also yum!

Hi Wildforest,
we'll be having our baby in oct and was just checking out some first month celebration buffet and are considering the one you used. Did you choose the $14.80 package? Was the food enough for your guests? If I have 40 pax, do I have to order extra?

hihi, i ordered fr "LePrecious" for my princess full month celebration and its veri good... highly recommended!!!

all our friends n relatives raved about their pretty packaging n the lovely photo cards that comes with every box. many kept the boxes n photocards. the pastries are tasty too : )

besides, they are very prompt in their services, accomodating my changes in baby photos, last min additional orders and efficient delivery.

Btw, i ordered abt 46 boxes for all my relatives n friends who attended my baby's celebration. find it nicer than giving vouchers. also save my trouble of delivering the cakes. only those who gave angbaos n gifts but didn't attend the party then i send them the cake vouchers.

hope my feedback helps : )
