haru, i find that gargling with sea salt+warm water or taking manuka honey helps. Get well soon!

By the way mummies, do you still wear socks/booties for baby at home? I am thinking of removing cos they are quite tight for him already but the feet feels cold. I forgot when did i stop wearing for #1. tsk tsk...

Ok, so for Monday, 4 June we have...

babydragon
haru
lovexuan

More mummies please! Heehee..

Have we decided on location? Food for thought at Botanic garden or marche at 313@somerset/vivo? :-)

haru, oh dear! Give it some time. I hate sore throats too. Hugs!

I guess i shall continue socks until 12 weeks old then. Cos i feel so uncertain after removing it. My baby loves to lick his fist like a lollipop! He hasn't discovered his feet though. ;)

Haru
Gargle with salt water?

I'm good for 4 june too! And 313 marche is a great recommendation! Let's try to meet at 1145 to beat lunch crowd. Put your name down here ok, so we'll know how many people+kids. Yay so exciting!

April mummies lunch:
Date; 4 june
Time: 1145am till whenever we need to leave

1. Pinkbunny + poppy (age 4) + calla (7 weeks)

Bbliss
Not to worry la. We have #1s so we are the ones who will be more stressed! Have to keep an eye on them plus the little ones. Who knows, you will be the only calm one with neat hair while the rest of us are dashing around :-)

Sorry for quick zip in and out post. I am soooooo tired. I am seriously severely sleep deprived. Baby wakes twice a night and I can't latch on while lying down cos then she keeps falling asleep so I have to sit up and nurse. Yawnnnnnn

pinkbunny,
did that too...cant take it, its giving me a headache, gonna go to 24hrs clinic later after feeding baby. =( it seems to be giving me a fever too. sigh...

my baby woke up like 3 times last night. noticed he wakes up pretty frequent at night, sometimes i wonder if he is hungry at all, but i figure feeding is the best way to calm and get them back to sleep!

Hi mummies, I would like to seek some advice/opinions.

If you total breast feed and direct latch on, is there a need to pump and keep an emergency supply?

Thanks!

Anxious, my baby is currently tbf by latching on only cos he refuses bottle. Ok for me since i am a sahm. So far no need to pump out for emergency. If there's a need, i probably just express using hand and leave for hubby to spoon feed/syringe feed. I find pumping slower!

But if you're going back to work after maternity leave, you probably have to pump out to freeze for future use as well as train baby to use bottle.

sotong,
actually u can still go out just as long as you plan ur trip so that there is nursing room that you can use to pump your milk while outside.

devilmom,
haha, good for you! i would love to bring both my kids out on my own but i think its quite a handful. if #1 has to go the to loo, etc...pretty tough! when i had #1, i went out and did christmas shopping all myself the moment confinement was over. with an extra child, it makes a huge difference!

Anxious, i find that as a sahm with an elder girl, it's even tougher to find time to pump? Unless hubby comes home early. I don't even have time to sit down eat or take a decent relaxing shower.. I also just latch on every hour during growth spurt. Haha.. Then after growth spurt, the boobies feel like rock everyday but settle down again after a few days. ;)

Haru, thanks! Haha.. Didn't think of consolidatng it together. :P

Agree with haru. I bring both kids out about thrice a week and omg, when #1 needs to poo, it's challenging! Even more challenging when i need to go toilet with baby in a carrier!! Hahaha.. Imagine me carrying baby in carrier and #1 standing in front of me plus our shopping bags plus diaper bag hanging at the door. At that point in time i would ask myself what have i gotten myself into... :P

Mummies, just to share.. My 7 weeks old got bitten by a mosquito last friday and now he has hives! Been 3 days already but it seems to be clearing up. Think he's allergic to the sting. Sigh :-(

Could it be due to weather? Many mosquitoes around my area! Think we should start pasting insect repellent patches around the house. I am using badger's bug balm too.

Is there nursing room at 313? We will need it. I know ION has but are there nearer ones?

Lovexuan, hope your baby is ok now. You are very steady leh. Go out three times a week. Where do you go? It's so warm outside. My boy cannot take heat too well. He gets heat rash. What happens when your kids need to nap when you were out? The first few weeks my boy did not seem to sleep a lot during the days. But the past week, it seemed like he is napping more. He does not fancy the stroller. My pupsik pouch was a bit too small so I sent it for exchange. But he seems to feel warm in it. And so far he does not stay in my ergo carrier long. Have to carry him all the way when we go out.

I'm interested to join in the 4 June gathering but I have to leave around 1pm and I am not too confident heading out with baby on my own. Baby has appointment with PD and hubby on half day.

Babydragon,
Yes, there are nursing rooms. B3, level 1 and 5.

Anxious,
Thanks. The red patches have lessen so seems much better. Maybe i am used to going out since #1. helps keen me sane. Haha.. I go to nearby malls, supermarkets, libraries etc on weekdays before 5pm. So not much crowd. Just got to lunch before 12pm or after 2pm to avoid lunch crowd. Lol. My girl stopped naping since 2.5 years old. I don't bring stroller so it's pretty easy. Baby like to be carried. He's ok with both pupsik pouch and beco carrier. Just zzz and wake to poo or drink only. Totally opposite when at home! Going out helps him sleep better at night too. Haha.. Actually the pupsik pouch is meant to be tight. If it's too loose, you can't go hands free and it expands after a while. :-)

You can join us if you don't mind going off earlier. I mean venturing to and fro marche, pd clinic and all. ;)

SSP, the chin should not be touching the chest. You should be able to see a bit of neck. Sounds like he's too low. Prop him up a little higher so that his neck is rested near your elbow. Check yourself in the mirror if you are not sure if the position looks ok. :-)

haru, marche does not take reservation. But they do reserve for big group with minimum spending..i forgot how much. We reserved before for my bro's birthday. We had to pay a deposit. Can call to check just to be sure. Are wee looking at a table next to the play area or right in front? There is a large long table next to the play area with ample space for big strollers. But not much of space right in front of the play area where we can watch the kids closely. Anyway this marche is pretty spacious so no worries iguess. I may not be bringing stroller since baby doesn't want to lie in it. Just thought it's good for quick diaper changing or convenient when tryinf to put him in carrier only. :-)

Burping
Initially i will lay down my gal after patting for awhile. Also will work.
Recently i started asking her - 嘉恩,你的嗝在那里啊?immediately after making her sit, n W/o patting her back. Dometimes she will burp almost instantly. If not, pat a few time n it will b out.

monica, i think every baby is different. Mine used to drink slowly for 20 to 30 minutes then fall asleep after that. Ever since 6 weeks old, he likes to drink hard and fast! He would suck non-stop for about 5 to 10 minutes, then slow down and start his comfort sucking, smile at the breast or look at me. It usually means he's done and i would unlatch and burp him. Just make sure it's really 45 minutes of drinking and not just comfort sucking. Let him take his time. When he's full, he will show you that satisfied face and you will know he's done. Try not to let him suck for comfort or you will experience soreness. Oh, ensure he is latching on correctly too! Try to get a deep latch so he can suck more. :-)

hi mommies!
brot #1 and baby out today on my own. not too bad, coz i went out to have lunch with my sister. didn't do any shopping at all coz #1 was tired and getting cranky after lunch. while she napped, i showered baby who was wide awake (he slept all e way while outside) and he fell asleep while mommy showered. good boy!! finally i have some free time to log in.

i am still experiencing frequent night feeds and i wonder how i can slowly train baby to sleep longer at night..is he sleeping too much/ feeding too little in the day? sometimes i try to "force" him to latch him but he doesnt want..=( hopefully it will slowly improve over time!

oh no!! I can't make it on the 4th of June....:-( :-( :-(

Can we arrange another one after mid June???

Anyone started sleep training baby, like as in hardcore sleep training...I'm going mad at night as he wakes up every 2 hours to feed!

My #1 sleeps through for 5-6hrs at 6 weeks naturally, but this one (shakes head) its gonna be an uphill battle...

Hi Mummies,
My baby got fever and diarrhea after his vaccination. The PD recommended 3 vaccine together, 6in1, pneumococcal and rotavirus so we went ahead last wed. Maybe it is too siong for him. We bought him to NUH children's emergency on sun night as he was crying and cranky all the time. The doc say the rota jab gave him diarrhea and it is causing the stomach pain. He cried a lot all through sun night, is better now but still a bit fussy from time to time. He will cry and 'gek' his face like he is trying very hard to poop. Any idea how to relieve the tummy ache for him?
Also, he fever has been very persistent. Coming on and off from thurs till now? Any tips on how to prevent or end it quickly the next time I bring him for jab?

aprilbaby, i hope so! Haha.. I don't mind another meet up. :-)

I have started a routine for baby from about 6 weeks. Not really sleep training but a good routine helps baby to sleep better at night. I read gina ford's books and find it very inspiring! The trick is to let baby feed well and nap adequately during the day.

After baby wakes up in the morning, he will take a short morning nap. Followed by a long afternoon nap(about 2 to 3 hours), short evening nap(less than 30 minutes) and it will be bedtime. Ensure about 4 to 5 feeds between 7am to 11pm.

Same here! My girl slept through for 13 hours at 2 months old naturally but with a similar routine as well. My boy..sigh! Working on it. There are good days and bad days. Good days zzz 7 hours, normal days 1 night feed and bad days wake up every hour!!

Lovexuan, I didn't know the Pupsik pouch has to be tight. Mine was like very tight and I thought baby look very uncomfortable in it. Haha. The weather is too hot to go out or I'm plain lazy. Too comfy at home hehe.

I'm trying to get my baby to drift to dreamland on his own. I put him down after feed but he would not go to sleep. Currently, he goes to zzz after feed when I latch him on lying down so that he continues sleeping. Any tips to achieve that?

aprilbaby,
your situation sounds familiar, like mine! my #1 also slept thru by the time she was 3 months. but my baby now hardly even goes beyond 2 hrs w/o waking up at night. but in the day he can tahan 3-4 hours.

i am fine for another meet up too. =) mommies always have lots to chat about anyway. hahah...

jellio,
hope ur baby is feeling better! you have to take care too ya?

lovexuan,
my baby was awake for quite a while in the mornings initially but now he also naps a lot in the morning. think coz he is quite wakeful after his 5/6am feed...trying to think how to adjust his pattern so that he can sleep thru longer and also not "wake" so early.

i did wonder if my baby is napping too much in e day and hence not feeding enough. but i don't wanna force him to keep awake as he will end up overtired and cranky..

anxious,
takes patience and persistence. i try to put baby down in cot most of the time before he is in deep sleep at night and let him drift to sleep on his own. i only pick him up if he cries. but the moment he calms down i will put him down again. sometimes it takes up to more than 5 times (pick up and put down) before he finally falls asleep on his own.

Haru, would you be in the room till he falls asleep? I put him down, say sweet dreams and then leave the room. He would struggle a lot for a long time and then cry. If I'm in the room, will he get used to it and needs me to be around to fall asleep?

anxious,
ya normally i would. sometimes if i see that he seems like he can't settle down i try to place my palm on his chest..sometimes it works. the whole idea is that he can fall asleep on his own. u don't have to stay in the room if you think he is fine. if he cries can always just pick him to soothe him again.

Omg hives!? Poor boy! Better now?

good on you for bringing the kids out so much! it does help with sanity eh? :-)

Sleeping through
Sigh,. My #1 slept thru at 6 weeks. I remember it very clearly cos it was Beijing Olympics time. She slept from 1030pm till 6am . now #2 wakes 2-3 times at night. Slept through ONCE only, just to sia me. Budden #1 was half FM, half BM. #2 is breastfed with 1 FM feed a day. Maybe that’s the diff.

I think I am saboing myself by offering the boob buffet through the night. But it’s the only thing I can do to get some sleep! If not in day time I will be super zombie!!!

Anxious, now i realise that it's easier to use an ergo carrier for newborns. Pupsik pouch will be much more useful when baby's head is steady like 4 months old above. It's tight but your hand should still be able to slip into the pouch. Practise at home first. :P

I train my boy to sleep on his own. He is always drowsy when i lay him in the cot. Then i will tuck him under the blanket so he has a sense of security. Pat his bum a few times and i will leave the room while he dozes off. No sleep associations unless he's feeling upset or cranky after jabs etc. But i don't understand why he would not sleep on his own during the day! Must be carried or sleep on top of me. Babies are really complicated little human beings. Lol :-)

haru, the maximum time babies at this stage can stay awake is 1.5 to 2 hours. So try to play with him a little after feed or go for a stroll then settle him back to sleep again to alow more waking hours? My boy can spend 30 minutes blabbling and laughing with his cot mobile. Then he will yawn when tired and i will quickly put him into the carrier to sleep. Haha.. Don't wake a sleeping baby. Extend his waking hours after his feed. But all babies are different. Some just take longer. ;)

Looks like I m not alone! My no 1 slept through the nightin her 2nd month with no training but no 2 keeps waking up for milk every 2-3 hourly. First month was worse- hourly to 2 hourly feeds. Both r total BF and I can't understand why the difference.

Hi mummies,

My no 1 also slept through the night. No 2 sleeps like clockwork at 7.30 and wakes up for one feed at 2.30. I've tried waking her up at 11 for a feed ( so I can sleep through) but she wont have it. I don't know if it helps but I give her her 7.30 feed in the dark and put her down in her cot after. It seems to help her put herself to sleep. Getting her down in the day is a problem though. She wants to be carried and wakes up when she's put down.

pinkbunny,
Much much better now! Thanks! Going to bring him to a PD later to double confirm he's fine. After that previous incident, i get a phobia whenever i see these things on him. Motherhood is super challenging for me this time round. My poor boy!

Oh yes. I cannot stand being home cos i feel those walls are going to cave in on me or something! :-)

Sleeping,
Actually i am not too sure if fm really helps baby to sleep longer. Cos my boy was on fm, no bm when he was warded but never once slept through. I continued to give every night after that but it makes him angry instead. He wants the boobies! Then i made a wrong decision to stop bottle and now he hates bottle and my boobies don't get any rest. He's still taking about 8 feeds a day!! Not bad. Down from 20 to 15 to 10, now 8...

Chalis,
My boy too! He's ok with his cot at night. But during the day, he's in the carrier the whole time except when i need to cook or go toilet!! Put him down and he wakes or cries. Once i put my hanky which was soaked with fresh bm next to his nose and he actually slept. But like quite disgusting so i stopped! He just wants to smell me, smell the milk.. Thinking of getting a play gym to keep him entertained but not a very good investment? Will outgrow soon..

B@by, his PD at NUH recommended to take the shots at 6wks. We are first time parents and didnt know any better so we just said go ahead. Had no idea that the fever will be so persistent and didn't know that the rota shot can bring on diarrhea.
Haru, thanks for the well wishes. Baby's temperature just went up again after staying calm since last night. it just keeps coming back after going down :-( ... he is cranky again. i think he is havin stomach discomfort.

Hi jellio, my PD also recommended 6 in 1, pneumococol, and rota for my gal to be taken at 8 weeks. From what u encounter, I guess I should really consider whether to let her have the rota next week. But my son took the 3 shots 2 years back and he was ok with it. Btw, I was wondering since bb is still small, what kind of medicine did they prescribe to lower the temperature? You can apply Ru Yi oil on his stomach.

If you have 2 adults and 3 children, then don't have to pay extra $4 co's 1 adult to 1 child. Yes, the additional $4 is for every visit with additional adult, but sometimes, the staff couldn't be bothered or can take turns going in..I bought the package cos more worthwhile, and went there very often.. Can share with friends somemore..

Lovexuan,
You can be my "sleep guru". Thanks for the tip. By the way, what time does your baby sleep at night?

Haru, SSP, Pinkbunny,
so glad am not going through this alone!! :-)

Chalis,
You are lucky both your kids are sooooo well-trained!

Jellio,
Wow, that is pretty early for 6 in 1 hor? My #1 took all her shots at polyclinic so am going to do the same for #2....polyclinic does 6in1 at 3 months!
Hope your baby will get well soon, if you are worried of the prolonged fever, maybe best to see the doc?

hi mommies,
2nd night that i struggled with a crying baby at night during bed time. i think what i am doing wrong is that i shower him, he drifts off to sleep and then i pick him up to bring him to my mom's place for dinner. he then wakes up and stays awake till we come home. hence over tired and stimulated. hence i am gonna try showering him a little later so that he can go to bed after his shower w/o getting his sleep disrupted. gonna have to try to work out a plan and routine for both kids since we normally have dinner at grandma's on weekdays. will be one tough puzzling work!

had a nice long afternoon nap today when both kids napped. one of the rare times that both kids napping at the same time and #1 actually napped longer than an hour, allowing mama to have a much needed break.

Aprilbaby, I bought my son to the hospital twice liao. Once to A&E. Luckily his diarrhea finally stopped. I never knew I'll be so happy to see baby shit that looks like pasty mustard...LOL. The diarrhea make his stomach pain so he was so cranky the last two days. Cry and cry and hubby and me had to take turns to carry him the whole night.

Bbliss, my PD gave paracetamol even though my baby is 6wks. We just decided to do the vaccinations at NUH cos they offered us the 6in1 package at $230 so we just go ahead. I think they say poly clinic is more expensive. We are first time parents so we just take whatever the PD recommend. I didn't even know that 6wks is early for 6in1. I thought it's standard :-(.

If I knew, I would have waited till baby is older. He is so poor thing. Fever since last thurs till now. But he is much better today, never hit 38degrees. The A&E PD say 38 degrees is the danger point. If more than that for baby under 3 mths must quickly go hospital.

There was once my nipple bled when I was feeding my boy but I only realized when I saw blood on his mouth. The was when he was very young when he was 1 wk old. The lactation consultant say its ok to continue to breast feed. Baby drink a bit of blood in the milk is ok but I thought it was disgusting so I gave the other breast that was ok.

Hi devil mom, my nipple bleed while I was expressing milk before and I called tmc breast feeding hotline.. Was advised to rest tt side for 1 cycle and if it continues, I was told to call parent craft centre. Guess if u r a tmc mummy, u can call them up to c if the problem continue? The other hospitals probably have a similar department? Was told to pour away the milk too (T_T) .. My milk supply isn't strong , tt was a heartache .

Lovetian, just saw ur post on mosquito patch. Just a suggestion - Why don't u use those electrical type Mosquito repellant at home? Then dont have to rem to change daily.. just bought another type from guardian which we can put out like gel air refresher too; have not try yet..

Regarding the outing
Don't dare to bring out bb alone yet cos I don't know how to keep the pram plus hold the bb plus the diaper bag plus get into the cab yet! Will practise and join the next outing ! :-) but I see tt most mummies here are bring 1 child n 1 bb!!! How on earth do u ladies do tt???

My boy always do stretching a lot when I lay him down in bed..the expression is like he wants to poo..draw his both leg up and clenching his hands..but he doesn't cry. Even in his sleep, he does that.
But if we carry him, he will not do that..
Bowel movement is normal..4-5 times a day, only windy stomach..
Is the above normal? I'm really at lost now..he has been like that since 3rd week n now he is in 5th week.
Day time, he only can sleep if I carry him huhu
Yesterday, i tried to let him sleptr on his tummy and he can sleep without any movements

Didn't manage to ask the dctr as my hubby was the one paying while I was nursing him. Aftr that I totally forgot abt it!

Hania

My boy also do this even he is now 7 weeks. He will pull his legs when he is passing motion/urine/fart. Not to worry. For windy stomach, try to burp by placing him upright, head resting at your shoulder. I tried burping my boy by sitting upright on my lap but failed. Now i can hear his burp almost after every breastfeeding or EBM.

Silverygal
6 in 1 include hep B 2nd jab? I m taking 5 in 1 so polyclinic schedule at 3mths. On the health booklet , it is also stated 6 in 1 jab to do at 3mth, 4mth & 5mth.

Hi suki, do you stroke his back downwards or upwards while burping him? Was doing it downwards but yesterday a stranger told us that it should b upwards while we were dining at a cafe..Hmmm

I stroke my baby upwards when burping. I think the antennal class thought us to do that. I also hold up against my shoulder to burp. I find that it's easier for him to burp like that.

Sometimes if he doesnt burp, I'll let him sleep slanted slightly upright first using a big pillow then lay him flat 10 mins later. If I lay him flat straight, he will regurgitate milk.

I cup my hand and pat at the back. I saw tmc nurses and pd doing circling motion at back and i follow. Yes , it is easier to burp over the shoulder.

Do mummies come across baby getting fussy at evening time before bedtime? My boy has been doing the same routine since he is 4 weeks from 6 to 9 pm , crying , refusing to sleep. I read about cluster feeding, not sure when will this be over? Thanks

hi mommies!
my baby was so awake this morning at 4am! was cooing away in his cot until 5am started to whine and i fed him again to help him drift to sleep. but then he started whining again at 6am and then at 7am..in e end i let him feed and then sleep in my arms...

baby has been enjoying sleeping in his rocker during e day but i think i better try to let him sleep in his cot in the day too. let him get used to both. else next time no rocker he can't fall asleep!hahah..

kathy,
i guess its out of necessity that we learn. today i brot my baby and #1 to my office to visit my colleagues. carried baby in carseat coz my office has stairs so stroller is not possible.

suki,
me!!! but i only experienced it coz he got woken up when we brot him to my parents place for dinner after he dozed off after his bath. so i guess his sleep kinda got disrupted so today am gonna try to not break up his sleep and see if he fusses. coz before this he was actually ok..do bear in mind that sometimes the baby may have been so stimulated in the day so they may be tired by evening time. i have not tried cluster feeding too.=P

chalis,
great!!! no worries! just join us...

re:mommies gathering
should we all exchange contact or better yet if we all have WhatsApp shall we form a chat group so we can keep in touch on that day?

hania: my baby does that too very very often..he will stretch, beat his hands and legs and his whole face goes red..when he sleeps on his back in the afternoons, he get startled easily so I put him on his tummy to sleep and he sleeps really well..

He even does the stretching when he is drinking milk, and his hands n legs can keep kicking once he is awake..like never get tired..

Chalis,
I find that it's odd to sleep in a dark room during the day! So i just dim the blinds. Anyway i don't follow her method 100%. Haha.. I improvised it to suit my kids. :-)

haru,
PMed you about the meet up.

Mummies,
I brought my boy to polyclinic but the doctors told me they cannot diagnose! So i brought him to PD and was told it's not hives. Hives are itchy but his red patches are neither itchy nor painful. Just have to let his system flush out by itself. No medication. Been almost a week but red patches still there... What else can i do? He looks so poor thing!

Kathy - try this, before waving at the handsome cabby driver, bring your baby up and put into the carrier, then carry your diaper bag, last step fold up the pram. Its time to wave :-) I took bus using the same method.

Regarding pink milk - I got it too occasionally, its internal bleeding. Other than skip 1 cycle, what other method?
