Ya...I was actually told to get up & moved around for blood circulation as I had laid for almost a day after the op. I did not feel much pain, only pretty dizzy...After 3 days, I started to take hot shower. The cut was well covered so jus felt like a piece of plaster. Guessed Dr TC did a good job. My MIL told me dat during her time, the C-cut is vertically down & she cannot bend...yeeee....goose pimples liao...

I can walk on the second day as well just that it is painful to get up and down. Dr TC Chang asked me to walk around. He is quite gentle with C section cut during check up. My cut is around 4 to 4.5 inch.. :-)

Hi LL and Winnie,

that's a very good one that you gals can walk on the second day.
I'm actually planning for baby now, so have to start search for all this information.
My friend told me that he is good, gentle and professional, and he is the head of the foetus department.
He even wrote books,

Hi,

I'm with him for my first boy and second due-to-be-born boy also with him. He's good. Very assuring, gentle and good beside manners. He's also the very pro-natural kind.

I recommended him to 2 of my friends and all had good things to say about him.

My c-section was a result of medical reasons and I too was able to walk the next day without much pain. I bathed the day I could get off bed as well. No problems at all :-)

Dr Chang is a very nice and good doctor... he does detailed foetal scans for abnormalities. I used to see him when my regular gynae (LC Cheng) not around... they work together... :-)

LC also good with c-section cuts. i also got up by 2nd day. so boring in bed. also they ask you to get up so you heal faster. then they can also remove your drip. by the 4th day at home, i was walking around like i didn't have an operation. everyone was astounded. but i believe it has to do with individual's healing and pain threshold. best to get up becos it aids faster healing. the more you lie in bed, the stiffer you get and when you do get up, lagi more difficult!

warning tho: it's not that it's easy to get up on 2nd day... i walked like a cowboy about to get into a gunfight... bowlegged and all. but that's the difficult part. once you're on your feet, you'll quickly get over the soreness and stiffness.

TAKE CARE, ALL!

I guess it adds pressure to our wound when u get up or down.. Did u experience numbness at ur wound area after the C section? Doctor say it is due to our nerves being cut off during the C section.. It will take around 6 mths for the nerves to re-connect.. But even up till now I still feel the sensation around the wound area different from before, it is not as sensitive..:-(

my gynae is tc chang too. I'm very pleased with his skills. I had c-section too. Like the rest of the gals, i could walk on the 2nd day when my drip was out. At first, I was very scared that the wound will hurt. Surprisingly, it didn't. Only on the first attempt, the nurse assisted me, subsequently, i went up and down the bed myself. The wound was painless but i wld walk like a old lady with a hunchback, because i scared that the wound wld tear if i stretch too much. In fact, i have my postnatal massage done on the 2nd week after I had discharged.

Juz last few weeks ago, I went back to him for my annual pap smear, I was so glad he was back from his research. I feedback to him that I got a bad experience with the gynae that he had refered to me when he was away.. He didn't comment much.

While making payment, I realised he had given me a "little discount" :-)

His package is still $800 exclude scanning.
can be quite expensive sometimes but i still feel worth it coz he himself do the scanning and explanation which is very important. Also, he has scanning on every visit.

when i had my 1st child in year2003, his $800 package is inclusive of the routine scanning (except detailed scanning at 5th mth).

so the normal scanning is chargeble liao?? How much is it? He will print out a copy for u to keep, right?

Last month, I was there for my routine pap smear.. I ask the cashier whether his package has increased, she said yes, but got to check the fees with another staff. But I didn't bother lah. :-)

hmmm.
My gynae is not Dr Chang. But I went to him for the detailed scan. Not bad, very eloquent.

I noticed that most mummies here gave birth via C-section. Is it coincidental or what? Anyone gave birth naturally by him?

Hi,

Heard Dr Chang is good. I've had miscarried twice always during the 6th week, wonder if he's able to help me with this problem? So far no gynae is able to tell me where my problem lies, that's why I don't know am I facing any fertility problem or what. I need to see a gynae soon, to tell me what's wrong with me and also to help me to conceive. Wonder Dr Chang can help me on that? Thus need some advice from here.

Can someone please advise me? Thanks much...

Desperate.

Hi all,

Just to share ... My gynae was also Dr T C Chang. He's a very professional and assuring gynae. I delivered my gal in Sept 07, assisted delivery with epidural. Dr Chang did a very good job. I can get off bed and walk about the next day after delivery. Minimal pain from the wounds and stitches too.

Hey,

I like to add on as well. My doc is TC Chang too.
I have miscarriage in June 06, and conceived again in Feb 07, he's very good and takes good care of me throughout my pregnancy.

Also, I have a very low threshold of pain. He gives me strong painkillers to make sure I don't have much pain. In fact, am able to walk the next day after delivery too. My colleagues who saw me were shocked.

Will definitely go back to him on my next pregnancy.

Hi mummies,

My gynae is Dr TC Chang as well when i gave birth at 2003. He was recommended to me through my good friend. I can say that he's a professional, patience & good gynae. Will go back to him if im going to have a 2nd child. I remember that he did a free 3D scan for me when i went tmc for my detailed scan.(At that point of time, his clinic was at katong area besides tmc clinic) Also, he gave me $200 discount for my package as well =)

Hi all, my gynae is also Dr TC Chang. I have been seeing him since 2000 for regular pap smears. That time he was still operating at Katong Clinic for Women at East Coast Road. I think his clientel expanded alot and he could only operate from TMC. Doesnt have the time to run 2 sites.

I had a fibroid removed in Nov 2007. He was very caring and very detailed in explaining the process and the operation. He is however a very matter of fact doctor. Hence if you are the "manja" type, you may not get the "attention" from him.

His charges are not exactly cheap but you can be assured that you have the highest quality service and advise.

I'm now 12weeks pregnant and he is still my gynae. He specialises in scanning and even IVF. A lot of expats see him. Somehow I feel that he has delivered a lot of twins cos i always see twins when i'm there for my appt.

Oh the nurses are impt too. His nurses are all professionals and when they do blood tests, they are very gentle. I'm terrified of needles so I'm glad that they do it quite painlessly.

He's very good, so be rest assured that you are in good and safe hands! :-)

TC Chang is my doc too. He is really very professional and careful. I had 2 difficult pregnancies but he helped me overcome and both babies r born safe and healthy. Just try him out sur no regrets. BTW if you r recommended by his patients, you get a discount for your 1st time consultation.

Hi
Dr Chang was my gynae too and like what other mummies have commented, he is very detailed and through in his scanning, especially as he is the head of foetal assessment. He does all the detailed scanning himself using his very high tech machine, which gives us more assurance. We feel our baby is in very good and safe care in his hands.
I had some difficulties in my pregnancy as baby wasnt growing well. Dr Chang monitored baby growth very closely (weekly without charging us extra) and assured us and gave us very professional advice on when to let baby come out via c-sect as baby was in breech position. My entire csect operation was very short and stitches very nicely done, I could even walk to nursery on the 2nd day already
We were also impressed by his care. During our follow up visit with him after delivery, I expressed some problems I had with latching bb on and he went down personally to TMC Parentcraft to ask them to contact me. Best of all, 2 weeks later, Parentcraft called me cause Dr Chang had asked them how I was doing. We were very touched that he remembered us and even called the nurses to follow up with us in the midst of his super busy schedule esp as I have already delivered.
Though his charges are pretty exp, we will definitely go back to him for our second one because of his professionalism and his superb care/human touch

hi all,
dr chang is not my gynae but i went to him for my detailed scan yday. i must say he was very gentle and skillful. the scan was done in 10mins and he could find all the right places to show us and measure without difficulty. i think this takes alot of experience.

i wld definitely consider him if i have another child!

can anybody advise me on the waiting time for consultacy?
and how does Dr. Chang? will he be patient enough to hear and answer all our question? because i know some doctors will try to rush us during consultation.
I just had miscarriage, so i am looking for attentive and caring gynae

hi mildstrawberry,

so sorry to hear about that. please take care of yourself ok?

about dr chang, let me just share a little based on my first visit to him 2 weeks ago. i was at the clinic for just over an hour and this included my registration as a new patient, a urine test, a brief discussion with his midwife (again, only because i was a new patient), his consultation and the final wait to pay and schedule a new appointment. very fast! in the end, i only waited for about 10-15 minutes before i got to see him. MUCH MUCH faster than waiting for my previous gynae. i just hope this is the trend all the time!

from my consultation with him, he gave me the impression of caring and patient doctor. he listened to me talk about my morning sickness and didn't rush me, or look bored, as i complained hahaha. all in all, he definitely has very good bedside manner.

he's also very comforting, calm and composed during delivery (he delivered my first baby when my usual gynae couldn't do it) so that's why i'm going to him for my #2.

hope this helps. :-)

Ya totally agree that his stitches are done very nicely n not so painful. My first baby was delivered by a female gynae in Mt E n my stiches were ugly. When Dr TC Chang deliveredmy 2nd n 3rd baby, he did a great job! He is really good.

I went in with my 3 year old son and husband for a detail scan for my second child by dr tc chang just yesterday. He actually ask my son to "shut up" cause he is speaking. We were shocked to hear that and it really affect our mood as we were eager to find out the gender of our second child. But on the bright side, luckily he is not my gynae, he is only doing a one time detail scan. I cannot comprehen how a professional doctor ( a gyane??) can speak to a child in such manner, if he does not have the minimum tolerable level for a 3 year old child!!!??? Less to say, we did not even ask any question after the scan.
Caring doctor????

Hi ian mum
Im very shocked and sorry to hear that... was your son noisy? The Dr Chang I know will not do that...he's been nothing but professional to me and my friends so far.. I have recommended friends to him and all say he's very good...

hi mildstrawberry
I saw you posting on lc cheng thread also.. ive had experiences with both gynaes, lc cheng in 1st-2nd trimester and the rest with tc chang. Both are equally fatherly, patient, nice and assuring... like a lady who posted in lc cheng thread, i also had alot bleeding in first trimester and was hospitalised twice. LC cheng warded me, gave me 1.5mths HL till 1st trimester ended. And when I was having some problems with bb, TC chang applied his professional judgement and took baby out earlier and skillfully. You are in good hands of both. Before that, I also had a MC.. dun worry, MC are often one time only.. next preggy will be successful

Hi ian mum,

I agree with roxy. I am shocked to hear that, cos' I don't think he will do that too. He is very caring doctor, I always ask stupid questions during the visits, and he will always take his time to reply me, never rush through the consultation. My friends, who are seeing WK Tan also went to him for detailed scan, and they also agreed that he's a very nice doctor.

Am now expecting my number 2, and he's still as good as before.

Don't think he will do that too. When I was preggy with my no. 2, my gal went into his clinic and watched him do the detail scan for me. She was also making a lot of noise and was cranky. Dr Chang did not even look irritated even though his nurse could not hear the readings that Dr Chang read out to her. He merely repeated the readings to her. He is definitely a caring and experienced doctor.

Hi, TC Chang was my gynae too. I delivered my girl in July last year. Even though my girl was born with fever, he was nevertheless a caring gynae throughout my pregnancy. Once i was involved in car accident and i called the clinic the next day, which was a saturday, to ask the nurse whether it was necessary for me to come down for a check up. He took the time to call me back to ask how i was feeling, etc. Another time, i suffered a muscle pull which resulted in me not able to walk or lie down properly. He was very professional and caring during this whole incident. I would go back to him when i have my number 2.

Guess all gynae do not like to have noisy kids when they do scanning.

Before i switched to dr.Chang, I was seeing another gynae who scolded my 1 yo boy as "barbarian"! I was so angry till now. It so hard to believe my boy was delivered by this doctor and yet he scolded him with such word!

This time my boy made the same noise when dr. chang scanning my tummy, my boy was scared b'coz of the machine and stuffs. I saw Dr. Chang was frowning, so I asked my HB carried my boy to the brighter side of the room. Then he just commented usually kids are scared to see the scanning.

And yea, he also refused to give me clomid. I was told to TTC another 6-9 months.

Hi all, I just delivered my 2nd girl with Dr TC Chang and yes he is still so responsible and caring after so many years (My first daughter is already 5) In fact, for this pregnancy, he told me to try for natural as my baby didnt seem to be as big as my first one. And I did deliver naturally... think most doctors would just tell you to deliver by c section so he is indeed a good doctor. Highly recommended!

Dr TC Chang has been my gynea since many years back when I went to him for my cyst operation. He was recommended by my aunty who has delivered two boys by him.

My first baby was delivered by him in 2007 and my second baby coming along the way in Dec 2009. I have to go for c-section because my placenta is low and too risky for natural birth. Indeed, he does encourage natural birth for my second child but alias my placenta still low for second pregnancy. He is a very accommodating and patience gynae. There is one instance which i heard from his nurse that most gynae or hospital will charge me surcharge for certain request, but Dr Chang is willing to waive that cost for me, its about few hundred dollars.

I do strongly recommend him if anyone has yet to find your gynae.

hi dis is roxy here... changed my nick :-)
i just delivered my no2 one week ago.. went back to tc chang... he encouraged me to try VBAC but nature was against me, bb head not engaged and contraction was causing her heartbeat to go down, hence i had to go for csect... i have to say his skills are still as good as ever... very neat stitches and im able to walk to nursery by 2nd day again :P even the nurse was amazed cause my csect was only done the evening before...he is as good and caring and professional as ever....

For those who had fibroid and cyst, may I know if he does recommend to remove by laproscopy or c-sect type surgery? And how much on average it costs ?

Would also love to know 1st time rates for consultation and scan, and also subsequent consultation and scan before siging package? What abt his package price now(normal & c-sect).

Appreciate any advise.

Went to see Dr Chang today.
He is very nice and kind.
The waiting time was not much, only about 15 min.

I asked the nurses at TMC about the charges.
$800 for the package, not including scans or meds.

$1600 for normal delivery
$1800 for assisted delivery
$2200 for Caesarean
($100 per hospital visit after delivery)

I saw Dr Chang when my gynae was on holiday.. did not like at all as he seemed to be rushing through my questions n also did not wish to talk more.. Felt that he is the very chop chop kind n just want to get u out fast.
Still prefer my current gynae who is more friendly..
Well mb cos I wasn't his patient so called..

My experience with TC Chang has always been like a walk in minefield somehow. Saw him back in 2008 when I started TTCing. He came highly recommended by my cousin who had 2 boys delivered by him. My hubby went once with me to see him and immediately wrote him off-found him too proud and impatient. I subsequently switched to a very nice and encouraging fertility specialist at GEH.

I finally got preg this March naturally but my initial 2 scans showed baby not growing well & hb turned irregular. I decided to go back to TC Chang for 2nd opinion coz I respected his expertise in fetal assessment-he is afterall the head at TMC.

I had no spotting, all preggy signs were still evident, so I thot I was progressing well and really was not expecting a bad result.

He didn't look too pleased somehow after he learnt I was there for 2nd opinion-is it a taboo in the industry? He scanned me frm below and told me no hb and foetus seemed too small for 9 wks foetus. My mind went blank and I asked him if there was any doubt about this? He snapped at me "no hb what, no need to do anything more". He showed me the hb again and repeated "see no hb". He then went on to scan a while more without saying anything to me. Finally he said he was trying to see why the baby didn't grow but couldn't tell. I felt it was more for his own clinical interest than my sake.

He ended the session saying "I am afraid no good news, go back to your doc to get it sorted out"?!?! Not a trace of empathy or understanding, just plain clinical and impatient. He had my medical records in front of him, he knew I was fertility challenged when i saw him in 2008 and it was my 1st and long awaited pregnancy-but obviously all these din matter to him.

My galfren arranged for me to see her gynae later that day for confirmation. This gynae scanned and explained to me about measurements, hb detection and even blood flow to foetus. She also managed to see a 2nd small sac besides the foetus. She sat me down & drew pictures to explain what we saw on the scan earlier and confirmed to me that the foetus was really gone. She then laid out the options for me to wait for natural flushout or do D&C. She recommended D&C for proper cleanup. All this while, she spoke to me in a calming & assuring manner.

Equally heartbreaking result but the way of delivery made a world of difference to a grieving & distraught mom-not-meant-to-be. Both were equally popular & busy, both knew I was there for 2nd opinion but patient EQ really set them apart.

I don't wish for another expiring mom to have the same experience I had with TC Chang - I wouldn't even wish that for my worst enemy. The loss is devastating enuf.

So I really cannot identify with earlier postings about a caring & professional TC Chang. Or I was just unfortunate to have met the evil twin?

Dr T.C Chang& his team are excellent. He always has makes me feel he has all the time in the world to answer my questions.

Waiting time for appointments is never more than 45 minutes usualy less and there are books and toys to entertain the toddlers.

His bed-side-manner is excellent.

Dr Chang only delivers at tmc. It is better this way as he can just make his way from his clinic to the ward if there is any emergency, no need to rush, n won't take long.

Hi, my post is a bit late.. But still in case if someone is going to see Dr Chang. He is a good doctor, that is for sure. The problem is the clinic. There work an army of nurses and assistants (not nessessary at all) who pass your dossier from one hand to another that you feel completely lost and often wait more than 1 hour. Also doctor has a lot of patients thous last time he forgot to give me my pills and now when I need an appointment that was agreed with him, his assistant calls me to say that it is impossible because he is overbooked and after my explications that it is absolutely important she said that she will call me back.. which never happened..

Hi Anna, agreed totally. The nurses always try to brush you off. When I had slight bleeding, they told me it is normal during implantation stage. They told me he is fully booked for the next 2 weeks. It was only I bleed the second time then they squeezed in an appointment for me. Despite all these, I am glad I chose him as my gynae. He is very professional and I have no doubt in his skills and expertise.
