Oceans,
No use blaming yourself now. Just see how the ballot will be on Fri. Good luck! :-) But do have a backup plan.

For us, we already know where to reg if we fail in this Fri's ballot.

As for the 1km thingy, nowadays HDB flats are so clustered and close... so I'm not surprised that alot of flats are eligible with the 1km radius.

Janet,
Yap, but when i noe, is too late liao.... In actual fact, when i asked abt PV last year Aug, my gal was 4yrs old. :-) However, registration already closed. :-(

Soyabean,
Good luck to you too. :-) With flats so clustered, the best solution is actully to increase the number of intake for neighbourhood school.... 2 chances is no diff if all are S'porean...

Recently, my luck was really no good.... haiz...

Soyabean,
This 1km thing is very scary...there are so many flats/condos within 1km now.

Ocean,
Schools always tell parents their PV registration are closed...when I called end Dec (b4 son turned 4), school told me, 'too early'. When I enquired in the following year when son turned 4, I was told they already closed applications for PV.

With 2 balloting slips for S'poreans, MOE hopes to make Singaporeans happier bcos of the huge no of PRs here, but there are many PRs who have also converted to citizens.

Soyabean,
How? U managed to get in?

Serene,
U already got the school liao?

Janet,
Wow... then wonder when is the right time to register for PV?
The balloting was really like a nitemare. There was hundred over pple waiting for the balloting last fri hoping to get in the 88 slots.
Quite scarly... as the seats got lesser, the pace get slower as some had already been called earlier.
There are some PR too who are really lucky... 1 chance also got it... so, what the diff..

As it stated to count down, 80, 70, 60, etc, my heart sank deeper... by the last 4 slots, i was really to give up and plan to take leave to apply for Qihua liao... suddenly at seat 87... my gal number was called...:-) whew... almost din get it...

Dear All,
For those who din get in, in woodland, other than woodgrove, heard that Qihua is getting better. Just that as the scool is more established (er... older), and abit further...

Good luck for those under 2C supplenment...

Here's the schools still avaialble..

Hi Ocean
Congrats!!! :-)

Me very suay... 4 out of 123 didnt get the seats, and we are one of the 4. My maid ask me not to buy anymore 4D or TOTO. :P

Anyway, yah, we were saying, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise... I hadnt had a good feeling of the school when I stepped in for first time to register. So perhaps really God's will. My hubby says I 安慰自己. But what else to do? Only 2 schools within 1 km from us and we already chose the not so popular one.

Girls,
I need your advise. My only choices are either Woodlands Primary and Sembawang Primary. Woodlands will prob need balloting (again) in Phase 2C supp. But though distance wise almost similar, there are 3 feeder services direct to school while sembawang only has 1.
Sembawang looks bright and cherry from outside, I feel that it looks like a happy school. Woodlands so far, not much feeling yet.
How how?

Oceans...
nope... I did not get in... :-( I'm one of the 30 who didnt get in... I was very very affected on Fri. We're going to register him at West View. Only West View and Zhenghua left in 2CS. Zhenghua only has 53 places, and with the spillover from Greenridge, BPPS and Beacon, it may go into balloting again in 2CS.

There was a set of TRIPLETS and a pair of twins who got in.

Linda...
Hugs! I can understand how you feel. :-( I also didnt have a good feeling on Fri morning as well, and somehow I have a feeling we wldnt get in, and somehow it happened.

Do you foresee many pple going for Woodlands? If yes, then maybe you shld choose Sembawang. having 1 direct bus is better than no bus service getting there at all. We're going for a school which confirm need not ballot cos we can't deal with going through another balloting. I will prob die of heart attack.

Hi Linda

For Woodlands Primary Sch
What i heard from the mummies that their kids still there or left las PSLE.

Before the principal change, Prev principal used to push the students to participate lots of Sports tournament and neglect the school works, and kept changing teachers too.

Now, the New principal balance it, and the standard is catching up Woodgrove, last Year PSLE quite a handful of students went into those Famous Secondary, the score ard 270+.

The Discipline master is good and the ECA is good.

I intend to put my boy at a nearby BASC, i found out the the person incharge there, cos the students there mostly is from Woodgrove and Woodlands. He told me both standard ard the same But Woodlands Mathematics is much stronger that the other sch.

As for Sembawang Primary you might go KS forum to read about it.

Cheers

Hi soyabean
Yeah, in the balloting, 2 sets of twins got in and alot of kids had their names called twice. *Faint*
From the balloting history, woodlands has balloting for phase2c supp and applicants versus vacancies was 137%. So rather risky lor. With the kind of luck i have in greenwood, i seriously doubt i will have any chance in woodlands lor. And worst still, with the influx of non citizens in the area, I worry that by phase 3, sembawang might not even have space. I see the website of both schools, call me marketing slave, but from the looks, sembawang does "sell" better. So i reckon it will be sembawang tomorrow.

Have you decided which school for yours?

Hi Jolene
Thanks! Not much feedback from KS parents forum leh.
I also understand that Woodlands had a change in mgmt for the better. Both my niece and nephew are there, both of them are happy in school. While i cannot say I am not concern abt the academic standards of the school, it is not my priority. But I do understand that woodlands set a slower pace for p1 and p2 to allow them to get used to the primary school environment. This is something I like. Due to the balloting history in 2C supp, I will go for Sembawang lor.

Hi Linda

Me too academic not the 1st priority, the kids must enjoy and happy with during their school time and kids can excel themselves.

If that's the case better go for Sembawang, otherwise end of the day ...balloting again!

Linda,
I'm going for West View. No choice. I cannot go through another round of balloting. My heart wouldnt be able to take it. Whats more, West View is 5 mins walk from my place, so it's really convenient.

I will go for a safer bet, so I'm with you on Sembawang. :-) All the best! Tomorrow is the day, and hopefully, it will be the end and confirmed.

Yes.... I look back at their photos, seem not so long ago they just came back from the hospital smelling great. My #2 is also 2. Born in June. :-) #3? If God willing, then there should be one.

Actually, it will be good for siblings to go into the same school, less headache for you. And the elder can look out for the younger one.

Ooo... I probably secure a place in Sembawang primary judging by the numbers posted in MOE website. Luckily, I chose to go there lor, cos Woodlands again exceed by 20+ applicants for whole phrase, then also dunno those 1-2km got chance to ballot or not.

Hi Jolene
Oh!!! You used to study there? I didnt know Woodlands changed their uniform. Yes, me too, I think I will cry when I see my girl in her graduation gown. Sigh....

hehehehe.... I also think I am rather smart this round,,,hahaha or just plain lazy to go through the hassle again!

Hubby and I are fine with #3, just wondering if we can managed. With #2 growing and vying for attention now, it is tough to imagine. While we can settle our "lust" for #3 easily by just having another baby, I dunno if we are fair to the kids who end up getting less from us? What you think?

Did you plan for a 4 years' gap? Was thinking if #3 comes along, it will be ard that gap again too. By then me 34 already, dunno still can run after a small one anot :P

Goodness... my gal jus came and ask me how to do her tution class homework on Present Continuous Tense.

We are supposed to fill in the present continous tense here.

Eg. Tom ____________ now (sleep)

For a moment, i thought it is "Tom sleeps now.". But that is present tense leh... Do a quick online search, found that the basic rule is to add _ing

So think the answere should be

Tom is sleeping now.

Goodness, i missed my PRIMARY ENGLISH. :-)

Saw the bag...it's very nice, but won't it be too big for your son going to P1 ? My son used a SPI small for P1 and 2....graduated to a Large only at P3.

Hi Mummies,
Do you take the 听写/spelling list given by kindy/cc seriously ? Spelling list is ok...words are acceptable and easy. But the 听写 is crazy !
睡觉, 长长的地毯,难过 etc etc.

Begin to worry. Will she able to cope in school. Managed to buy food to eat or not ( cos she is a super picky and slow eater) etc....

Worse thing is... all these is beyond our control..

I think bring cash to school is to buy uniforms n textbook bah....

Found a centre to teach her solely on HYPY for 12 lessons. Wanna to make sure she was read those HYPY. Was told that begining of P1 all the chinese textbook is only HYPY.

Ya.. i think i shoud let her bring food to school also.

Oh ya right. Hv to buy text books and uniform. Is it a must to buy text book fm school or we can buy fm Popular? Is it cheaper to buy outside?

You gal's kindy didn't teach her 汉语拼音?

Hmmm.... Chinese textbook only 汉语拼音 That's bad hor. Wif 汉语拼音, one learn to read only. After all, Chinese words are made up of Chinese character

Bring food safer. P1 kids may not b able to buy food, find seat n finish food within the break time. More worried if the food is hot. I remember last time I bot food wif hot soup or hot sauce, hv to b very careful when carry the bowl ard. I wz in upper primary then

If you ask her to read a bit difficult. That's y i want her to master the basic. At least able to read.

As for textbook... I will buy from the school sure wont get the wrong ones . Just grab n go... of course need to q lah...

Tell daddy now food court food easily $3 - $5 leh.
Chen Chen's cc brot kids for certain field trips by MRT. They walk fm cc to MRT station not shuttle bus to MRT station

Hi Mummies,
My gal just had her graduation concert last Friday...having an extra day at home today.

For P1, the first 1/2 year is on hanyu pinyin. Textbooks are sold in Popular...you enjoy 5% discount...but troublesome running both places because you would still have to go back to the school to buy exercise books, uniforms and some other workbooks not allowed for sale in Popular.
I usually tick the books I want & date I prefer to pick up, then fax back to the vendor in charge. On that day, I'll go to the school, check the books and pay. Same goes for uniforms.

Oceans,
I'm not sure whether the 5% is for those with Popular card.

CC stands for childcare.

Booklist should be given on day of orientation. As for textbooks, I will check with Popular if they have most of the books, then can save a little (got 2 kids).

Did u cry on your girl's graduation ceremony? Suprisingly I didn't. I was too busy looking for my boy, looking after the younger one and snapping pic. My hubby is the videographer
Aiyo, now then saw your post. I already pre-order and paid for the books to the school supplier. My hubby din want the hassle of buying fm separate source. Btw, how do u ensure that text book fm Popular is the same as that fm school supplier? Will there b different edition? Saw some mummies buy text books fm this forum
Do u mean get text books fm Popular, can get 5% discount for non member and 15% discount for member?

Ocean
How come your child don't wanna perform? Stage freight? Mine din wanna perform initially coz he too tired of the performance. Performed every yr since N1. Told him this is your graduation ceremony. It's for u. It's once in his life time. If he miss, dat's it. No turning back So he agreed to perform
Do u mean your child's school allow parent to sit in for 1st 2 days? The school v gd, let u know wat to bring. I din receive such info. Hopefully, get such info during orientation coming sat. If not, I ask them

Ocean, Janet
Popular member card entitle to 10% discount

Foreverfriends Honey,
I think my eyes were wet when I saw her performing on stage and receiving the scroll.

As for books, Popular card members enjoy 5% discount for buying school textbooks. Called Popular to enquire the availability of some books from the list...not avail there, so I pre-ordered from school vendor instead. After all, have to buy exercise books, school badge, report book and also uniforms...troublesome to run 2 places.

I didn't attend orientation...hubby brought daughter there. Son had operation, so I accompanied him. Discharged yesterday...now slowly recovering.

Hubby called me during the orientation regarding the approval for school dentist.

If you can wait for your kids' student card, it would be better bcos student membership for Popular is cheaper.

Janet,
So fast got immunization?

My gal ok. Just tat her handwriting was so ugly that sometimes, really dun noe what she is writing.

Btw, P1 spelling is difficult. Not only must rem how to spell, but mus know how to use it.

Their spelling was in form of filling in the blank.

Eg, if the words tested are "Barks" and "Cow", my gal will be tested as:-

Dog ________ and ________ moos.

So, she need to fill in the blanks using one of the words tested for spelling.

For Chinese spelling, it is worst. All hanyu pinyin. No chinese character, jus hanyu pinyin... gooosh.... stress...

Ocean,
Daughter's jab will be given after CNY.
Spelling for Term 1 are 10 words...the whole spelling booklet from Term 1 to 4 are given...but I don't want to stress myself. Your gal's spelling is tough.

As for CL spelling, this Wed is first one. No chinese character, only hanyu pinyin...BTW, it will be nothing but hanyu pinyin for first 6 weeks. 'a e o i u' with the 4 different tones.

Do u mean student card can get discount for purchases at Popular?
There is no news about immunisation fm my son's school

Ocean
Spelling in your gal's school is tough. Not only test on spelling, test on understanding of the word as well. Good in a way to ensure kids know what is the meaning of the word instead of just the spelling. They will forget the words if they merely learnthe spelling

My son's school has English spelling every week but 听写 is not weekly. 听写 is on 汉语拼音. My son forgets all the chinese characters he learned after learning 汉语拼音 in K2. Argh.... I have to teach him chinese characters all over again. He is like back to K1 standard for Chinese

Foreverfriends,
Once your child receives the student card, apply for the Student membership at Popular. 10% for assessment books, 20% discount in June/Dec (coupon is from Pop magazine). 5% discount on textbooks.

Daughter's EL spelling has 10 words...I split into 2 days for her to learn. 听写 also 2 days.
What she has learnt in preschool all returned to the teacher.

My son's spelling is 10 words. But the words are easy for him. I v ks. I give him spelling and 听写 complete list at one time and 2 wks in advance. His 听写 will be weekly from Feb onwards

Forever friends,
My gal doesn't like hanyu pinyin, bcos she feels that it's not Chinese but yet not phonics. I told her it will help her to find characters, which is why it is impt to learn. Electronic dict uses hanyu pinyin to find characters so she has to master it during the 6 weeks. Poor girl.

Hi parents,

I am a mom with a daughter currently in K2 & looking for 2-3 parents with children of similar age who are keen in P1 preparatory classes conducted by a teacher near Holland Village. I’ve attached the link here: http://www.littleinkpot.com/primary-1-preparatory-class-new.html

Do let me know if anyone of you are keen in the Sunday timeslot as she will only start the class with at least 2 children and my daughter is currently the only one enrolled. Similarly, if you know of another such class with a program as good as this one in the Central/West area, please let me know too.

It's already approaching June and think I want to prepare my girl for P1...

Thanks in advance!
Angela

Hi Mummies,

Anyone interested to participate in a 2hrs group discussion on 7th or 8th Jun? We are paying $80 to $100 cash incentive. Purely research study.

Mothers with 4 to 6 years old:
7th Jun @ 3:45pm - Formula milk drinkers
7th Jun @ 6:45pm - Non-Formula milk drinkers (like fresh milk &/or milo drink) - used to drink in the past

Mothers with 7 to 10 years old:
8th June @ 9:45am - Formula milk drinkers
8th June @ 12:15pm & 2:45pm - Non-Formula milk drinkers (like fresh milk &/or milo drink) - used to drink in the past

Must not have participated in any surveys in the last 12 months.

Interested, please do not PM. Kindly sms me at 91892420 with your details ASAP!

Have a good weekend!

Hi mummies

I need some advice here. If you have an only girl, will you put her in a mix / all girls school? Please provide your reason if you choose a mix / all girls school.

My girl is basically rather shy, so i do not know if putting her in a all girls school is a good choice.

Dear Purin,

I would put her in an all-girls' school, but also make sure that she has the opportunity to interact occasionally with members of the opposite sex. I think putting kids in a mixed school gives them too much opportunity to form romantic attachments at a very young age.

At the same time, I guess she does need to mix with boys too, so that she has a more well-rounded social perspective. There's always this innate tension between wanting to let children go and wanting to shelter them.

wondering any mummies with kids enrolled in the afternoon session, but because your kid needs to attend student care centre in the morning, so have to tag along with students of the morning session in the school bus?

really headache over this coz the timing to take school bus is not confirmed but would be between 600-630am. imagine he must wake up early to catch the school bus to go student care centre yet school ends late coz he's in the afternoon session...

btw i have no car. and taking public transport will be about 7 busstops, troublesome when it rains. any advise of a better solution?
