Hi

My filipino maid's passport expires in Oct 2010, her work permit in Aug 2010 (in Aug2010, she would have completed her 2yrs contract) and I intend to let her go back for home leave within the coming few mths bcos I heard from agent that its best to do passport renewal and home leave application together.

My agent want to charge me $550 for passport renewal together with home leave application, if done separate, there will be an additional charge for $450 for home leave alone!

is there anyway I can do this myself? PLEASE ADVISE!

thanks!

Hi Cyn

If she's going back for home leave, can she not renew her passport in Phillipines? Coz renewal in Singapore is expensive - as this is done at the embassy here.

This is the breakdown from my agency when i renewed my maid's passport last year:

Authenticated employment contract $62.50
OWWA Membership : $42
Passport fee : $85
$2000 embassy's bond : $70
Total - $259.50 + $100 agency fee

Home Leave :
Employment contract : $62.50
OWWA Membership : $42
Exit Pass : $5.50
$2000 Embassy's Bond : $70
Total - $180 + $100 agency fee

If your maid renew her passport when she's back in Phillipines, u only need to renew her work permit, insurance and work contract wic should be about $350 including the agency charge.

But if due to some circumstances must renew passport here, then the agency charge is abit high unless its inclusive of work permit renewal and insurance. Tell them to give u a breakdown.

I find its more convenient to use an agency to do these stuff as they r more familiar wif the procedure.

Hi Sammi

Thanks for replying.

I forgot to update here, I finally decided on another agent (total charge is $350 including Passport renewal and Home leave application which includes everything u mentioned above). I have called up at least 10 agents and finally settled with this one. SOme agent even wanted to charge me at $1000-$800 for passport and homeleave.

I understand from some of the agents that actually the documents required are the same sets for both passport renewal and homeleave. But many agents take the opportunity to charge separately without letting the employers know (looks like your agent is one of them). I understand that the documents are valid for 2 yrs which mean if my maid go back again within this 2 yrs, I can use back the same doc to apply for HOme leave at only $5.50 (the exit pass which is valid only for 2mths).

I don't think my maid can renew her passport in Philippines bcos her homeleave application need to be done here with her passport etc and also require the contract n other docs thaat u mentioned above. My sis previous maid had an issue with her homeleave (not done properly, the maid went to do her passport herself)and end up couldn't return to singapore. So I thought I better let agent do.

Actually it depends on the terms stated in their employment contract. Usually is 15 days of paid leave. But since my maid would like to go back for 1 mth, i let her and also paying for the entire mth. I need her help when she returns (baby#2 on the way) so I give in to her requests to make sure she comes back happily (many go back n never return eventhough they say they will). So its actually all up to u aside fr the contract terms.

Hi,

I did my helper's home leave application on my own. She went to the Embassy to bring back the documents required and I just fill them up. It only costs me $110. My agent wanna charge me $300 which I think is too high so I rather do it on my own. Passport renewal will cost another $189.50 but my helper said she will renew it when she goes back to her hometown. I bought the Performance bond at $71 and insurance at $280 from NTUC income. We need all these to renew the work permit. So just make a copy for the docs and bring them to the embassy to process will do.

You can email me at geneveive16@gmail.com if you need a copy of the forms. :-)

Smurfy,

My helper will be going back for 3 weeks in June. Normally is 14 days but I tot I let her extend for another week so that she can spend more time with her son. I feel that they are very poor thing, leave family for 2yrs so let her stay longer.

Hi
My helper joined us only last October for a 2 year contract. She told me yesterday that her passport is expiring in December this year. It was then that I realised to my horror that her work permit was only valid till November this year. I had assumed that it would be for 2 years.

Anyway, she now has to renew both passport and work permit. And I have questions.

1. I guess we should pay for work permit renewal, although I feel I have been "cheated" or short-changed by the agency on this. What about passport renewal? Contract is silent.

2. Philippines Embassy website sets out the passport renewal requirements here: http://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/consular/passport/application-renewal/ Basically, complete a form, pay $85 and submit a "Valid employment contract authenticated by the Philippine Embassy"

3. I guess the authenticated employment contract is the one mentioned by some of you. Another money making device invented by the embassy? I don't mind paying the $62.50 and signing a piece of paper but the contract states I must pay the helper $600 sslary plus 15 days paid leave per year etc etc. Do you guys just pretend and sign away, or can the terms be changed to the actual terms?

3. Some of you mentioned OWWA membership and embassy bond. I read these plus medical insurance on other sites too. Are these mandatory? I don't seem to find them on the embassy website. The benefits under the medical and insurance policy I bought for the maid far exceed those I read from the OWWA website.

4. Can I do all these myself? I read somewhere that if the maid is with me for less than 2 years, I need to go through one of their accredited agencies?

5. Lastly, I need to mention that the photo requirements for the Philippines passport are so numerous and they look silly. http://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/consular/passport/passport-photo-requirements/

My helper checked around and the cheapest she found was $360 for doing both the passport renewal and work permit.

Hi Minnie

I don't dare to let my maid renew her passport herself in phil.. my sis's last time did that and fall short of some documents, end up can't come back. So I rather let the agent do it. For mine, everything done (including cost of passport renewal) for $350 is cheap enuf for me.

Hi KS
I guess we are taught a lesson here when hiring a maid fr agent, we shld check on the passport expiry date and mayb get the agent to negotiate their agent fees if thepassport is <2 yrs. I too didn't check that part but was only glad she had a valid passport when i chose her biodata so that we didn't have to wait.

No.2 I just let the agent did the filling up of the form

No.3 I only know OWWA membership and embassy bond is necessary but I am not sure is it only for Home leave or passport renewal or both.

No.4 not sure but I read somewhere too that we need the agent to do it to get the contract for the 1st time.

No.5 My maid's photo was taken at the agent's office at lucky plaza.

goddess,

Shouldn't your existing maid insurance polices arranged by the agent cover all these? Go back to your insurance company or NTUC Income at http://www.income.com.sg/insurance/foreignmaid/index.asp

Oh dear, I better check mine. I hope I don't end up having to renew all my policies, bonds etc. Passport and work permit are headache enough.

By the way, does this forum not have a feature to notify my of new mesages to my subscribed threads? It's very, very difficult to find back this thread, especially since everything is listed in alphabetical order, instead of newest first, which is really the correct way.

my agent didn't cover all these... will normally charge a fee if i ask them to do for me. so in order to save cost, i do it by myself.

I called up the insurance company and got an endorsement letter from them on the change of new passport no.

guess u better check yours esp when it comes to renewal of passport and wp, it's a real heachache.

yes, there's a notification feature. u need to check on your profile settings.

i also think that it should reflect the lasting postings instd of alpha order.. should highlight this to the moderator..

Hi..I am about to help my helper renew her passport too. I am informed she can renew her work permit later, and not together with her passport renewal - is this possible? I am informed also that I hv to buy again the insurance, but this is done at the same time during work permit renewal, not during passport. My agent is helping me since they have all her information - and charging me $330 (without renewal of work permit and insurance).

I just renew my Indonesian Maid's passport.

Go to Indonesian Embassy (find out the time). Bring along your maid, fill up forms, take pictures from there, photocopy from there also.

Submit forms, go upstairs for a interview.

They will give u a ticket to come back to pick the passport a few days later.

Its very simple.

Hi ladies,

Do you find the increase of maid's salary justifiable? you might wanna write in to the respective authority to appeal or request for further actions to be done to decrease the maid's levy etc..

I called MOM and they state that whether you pay your maid during her holiday back home is to be mutually agreed upon, ie) not compulsory under the laws.

Dor: Do you know how much Century 21 @ Lucky Plaza charges?

my maid passport is expiring in aug 2011 and work permit in jul 2011. however she's only with us fore lessthan 2 years. To renew her passport locally, she need a service contract by accredited agency which we do not have and to go through agency, it's going to cost $350.

She wanted to apply for home leave in advanced and to do her passport renewal back in Philippines. (meaning she won't take home leave next year) Now, i dont know if i should pay for the air ticket and this home leave is paid or unpaid...

i afraid she would not return after gg bk. any advice? thanks!

Hi Jacq,

I'm trying to do the home leave by myself, rather than pay 300+ to an agent. I've read on the phil embassy website that we can do it without going thru the agent. The tricky point is about the 'valid employment contract processed by the Phil Embassy'. I think this is the tricky point. The forms can be downloaded from their website, hassle free.

I will give them a call tomorrow to check on the tricky point of being "PROCESSED" by the Phil Embassy, whether it has to be "ENDORSED" by one of their approved agents.

Go to page 8 and read on FAQ on OEC/Exit pass:
http://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/wp-content/uploads/sinag2009-q2.pdf

Hope this helps,
Mag

Hi Sankan,

I'm still in the process of trying to do the home leave on my own for my maid.

If your maid is going back in Nov, you have to process the home leave for her, to get her the exit pass basically. So that she can leave Phil and come back to Sg. By Nov, if she is with you less than 2 yrs, then its more troublesome. Best that you call the Phil Embassy to ask them the procedures.

For my maid, its more than 2 yrs, so more straightforward, don't have to go to one of "endorsed" agents to get the contract endorsed. But less than 2 yrs, have to get endorsed. So better for you to call up the Phil Embassy. They work sunday to thurs, fri & sat close.

For home leave, also have to buy $7K performance bond fr insurance company, valid medical insurance and have to download quite a few forms fr the Phil Embassy website to sign and bring along. Have a read at the website and some agency's website, you will have a better idea of the documents to prepare for home leave for ur maid. If not, pay an agent bet $280-360 to get it done for you, which I chose not to do so.

The link above on my previous post is about the documents to prepare for the OEC/Exit pass. Have a read at it and call the Phil Embassy to clarify for your maid's case.

I'm going to the Phil Embassy trow to get the exit pass processed.

Cheers,
Mag

Hi Sankan,

I went to the Phil Embassy to process the home leave. Took about 90 mins for the whole process. Had to go to 5 different counters in total, pay $42 for contract processing, then another $42 for authentication of contract. Then proceed to pay for OWWA membership, then pay $5.50 for IA-Big membership, then pay $5.50 for OEC. Collection of contract is done few days after.

So I guess if you are ready to go through the whole process of queuing and waiting, then you can do it yourself. If not, then that's why agents charge $300+ for the process.

Before heading over, you have to purchse the 7K performance bond from insurance co. and also ensure that you have all the documents and forms filled up, signed and 2 photocopies of her work permit and passport. If you have the time to run around to do all these, if not, then paying the agent to do all the work for you would be the best option.

All in all, it was a good learning process for me. Interesting experience.

Cheers,
Mag

How long does it take from the start to end of this process? my maid is leaving 20 Oct ( just booked her air ticket ) and i haven done anything.. gota start renewing the permit n get insurance...

is the embassy helpful wf the whole thing?

MAg- Sorry for the late reply. Couldnt locate the thread. Thank you for such a detailed reply. I also spoke to phillipines embassy people and since my helper is not yet 2 yrs in singapore i ve no choice but to go through an agent. She told me i can go to her directly once this contract is over even for renewal and the process is not so difficult she told me. And i feel its better to do it directly than to give so much money to agent. But right now i ve no choice.. LEts see what the future holds.

My bad luck- now my maid wants to go back and does not want to come back to my house. I get a feeling from her body language and attitude these days that she thinks that i cant do without her and that Filipinos are in great demand now (she has told me that many times) so every day she comes up with new new demands. Haiyaa dont know what to do.. My only reason for wanting her is that she is very well settled, kids r really attached to her and u never know how a new one will be.. but she is taking all these as my weakness and that i cant do without her..

Hi Cel Cel,

Well yes, there's savings of $ in the end. You have to renew her work permit first. I got mine renewed thru NTUC income paying alittle bit more and they will send courier to your house to pick up the forms and also courier the renewed work permit to you once its done. Takes about one week to renew the work permit, so you've to get the work permit done quickly.

With renewed work permit, valid passport, purchase the 7K performance bond. You can purchse tog w NTUC when you renew the work permit, so don't have to go to them twice. The forms are available for download on Phil Embassy website.

Then go to Phil Embassy with:
1. New work permit (original & 2 photocopies)
2. Valid passport (original & 2 photocopies)
3. Contract (download fr Phil Embassy website - 2 sets, all pages must be signed by maid)
4. Renewed medical insurance
5. 7K Performance bond
6. OWWA form (download fr Phil Embassy website)
7. OFW information form (download fr Phil Em website)
8. Air-ticket
9. Employer's NRIC (1 photocopy)

Once you get all these documents ready, then you go down to Phil Embassy.

Well, helpful or not, its very packed and long queue so don't expect much help. You'll have to take 3 queue numbers, one for contract processing, one for OWWA and one for OEC. So it helps when you are prepared with the forms properly filled up. I just had to fill in one form there, half page, IA-BIG membership form, then pay $5.50 for the membership. This is done after OWWA. Well, at least the staff did direct me to the next counter properly.

So, all the best!

Hi Sankan,

Well, if your maid does not want to come back, then no point keeping her. My maid also bargained with me for salary to be increased with every Sunday off, which I did not agree to the terms. I had to negotiate with her, counsel her abit here and there. She needs the $ to send back home for her family. So in the end, she's willing to stay with us, with 2 sundays off and slight increase to her salary.

But I guess, if her attitude starts changing to 'threatening' or demanding everyday, then its up to you whether you want to face such demands everyday. If its me, I will let her go. Tell her that its not easy for them to come back to Singapore too, cos many are not taking filipino maids now due to the policy change by their govt of the salary min requirement. So tell her, there's risk that she will not find an employer to come back to Singapore too. They also have to know the real fact too. Though its their market in the end, but I think resorting to emotional blackmail of employer is something I would not tolerate myself.

People say "Keep the good maid, its tough to find one". But if the good maid has turned 'bad', then no point in keeping her already. So you'll have to make the judgement yourself.

Cheers,
Mag

Hi Cel Cel,

This $600 salary and every sunday off thing is just something that most employers and maid will just sign off without the contract being legally binding. As in, there is an understanding that this is not the 'official' contract terms that you'll be going by.

My maid did ask for every sunday off, which I did not relent. In the end, we settled for 2 sundays off.

As long as your maid and you have the understanding that its just a admin process and not the 'official' contract, that's more important.

Hi Cel Cel,

If less than 2 yrs then have to let agent do it, its all part of generating $ for the agents lah.

Why don't you postpone her trip back to after 23 Oct, after 2 yrs contract term with you? Then u can do it on ur own and don't have to waste $ paying agent.

I planned it in such a way that her trip back is after I renew her WP. So maybe change her air ticket home to late Oct? You dont have to wait till WP expires then renew, you can renew it in early Oct. I think if you book the air ticket after the 2yrs contract term with you, then should not need the agent endorsing thing. But you just have to go thru e whole process of endorsing the contract by the Phil Embassy (as I've shared in the previous post).

Don't have to bring maid along with you when processing the home leave in Phil Embassy. Just make sure you have her sign on every page of the contract and all the relevant forms too.

Hi Mag,
May I know how much do we have to pay to MOM for WP renewal? I know when we submit for renewal there's an admin fee of $10. What about after is approved? Do we have to pay for issuance etc? appreciate your sharing.

cheers

Hi Riveria,

I'm not sure about the fees for WP renewal. I got NTUC to do this part for me. Just pay them alittle more and they will handle everything for you. Courier to pick up the documents from you and also once done, courier will also bring the documents back to you. All tog w the new insurance policy is about $370 (if I don't remember wrongly). The insurance I think is $340+, so I guess that additional bit of money buys convenience.

But for the OEC or home leave, agents charge 300+ for the service. No way am I gonna pay them that kind of money.

hi mag, just saw that you had your maid WP renewed thru NTUC. I'm a little confused. u mean u went to phil embassy once with the same set of documents to request for home leave application and renewal of her WP?

i'm in the situation where my maid is gg on home leave 1 mth before 2 yrs of service with us and her WP is expiring in 2 mths time. so am wondering can i renew her WP now and at the same time apply for her home leave at phil embassy.

Hi mummies,
Appreciate your advice urgently on how I can settle my case. Do I really need my agent to do all these which seem so complicating? Their charges are so high n they are not sure of the KTKLN card processing themselves.:-(

My Indonesia helper of coming 2 yrs decided that she will go on home leave this Dec and extend her 3rd and 4th yr wz me. Her WP expires in mid Dec 2011 while PP expires in Nov 2012. Just found out that she does not hv any KTKLN card.

1. Do I need to renew her pp this yr?
Means I hv to buy 2 yr insurance, renew the WP 2 yrs, renew PP 5 yrs, then apply n collect KTKLN card (which may need her contract agreement that I can get from the Indo embassy during pp renewal). Then she can be on time to go for her home leave in early Dec? However there is the risk that she doesn't return after ALL the paper work done.

2. I called up NTUC Income to check on their insurance with Wp package but I was quite puzzled. Was told me that her WP could only be extended till Jan 2013?? And they suggested that I buy 1 yr insurance and renew 1 yr WP with them this yr. Next year then renew PP 5 yrs then do the renewal WP 1yr wz another 1 yr insurance again. Why?

3. Have anyone arrange for KTKLN card to be collected from Batam before? Can it be done on Saturdays?

4. Do I need to show the Contract or Work Agreement which hv to be endorsed by the Indonesian emabassy for KTKLN processing? Means I need to go to the embassy regardless if I am renewing her pp this yr? Or can I get maid agency to craft this but to pay them for this official doc?

Appreciate ur inputs... TIA

I am sending my Phillipino maid home at the end of January for two weeks. Her passport was expiring at the end of June next year, so we had to apply to get her passport renewed and spent over $300 as we did not have the Authenticated contract and only the agency could apply for this. As I have already spent over $300, I don't want to spend that again to apply for exit pass. Do we get the authenticated contract back from Embassy/Agency after that have processed the passport application? What is the OWWA valid membership we need for exit pass? And what is the PAG -IBIG fund membership? Assuming I have all this documentation we can apply directly for the exit pass ourselves? Where can I get the exit pass application form? Is there somewhere online?
Thanks Leigh

dear all,

ANy one has expereinces doing passport renewal for Philippines helper? I need to do that for her and wonder if it is possible at all to do by myself. I think the challenge is to provide a valid employment contract endorsed by the embassy. I read from the net that this has to be done by agent if helper work less than 2 yrs. Mine is with me for 20 months.

please share. thanks.

Hi, need some advise. If my maid wants to go back for home leave, are we to pay them for the days she is home? How many days of paid leave to give? Also, are we to pay for their papers at Philippines embassy including the $7000 bond?

ktkln card is for the undo embassy to track where the maid will be in sg. Without that, they cannot leave info.

To make that, u need to do the employment contract at indonesia embassy before they can process the ktkln application in Indonesia..

What happen to ur friend maid? Why got stuck?

Hi Jan

Oh dear... Ktkln issue, all you have to do is to go to the Indonesia embassy. Inform them that your maid is in info n need to make ktkln in undo. In order to do that, u will need employee contract from the embassy. The embassy will then conference u n ur maid together.. Once done, Fax or email or post the employment contract to ur maid.. Ur maid will then go to their mom n make ktkln.. That all..

Jan: you can the indonesia embassy..

Why are you making her ktkln card now since she is already in SG.. she should be having her ktkln card already.

I renew my maid passport, i will need to make another employment contract. Since your maid is now with you, it would be easier. i believe embassy do make ktkln card.

Yah. I think you should renew her passport before she get the new WP..

Renew passport cost about $35 for 5 years. It only take 3 working day to get their passport renew.

After submit application to get passport renew, go up to level 2 to go for interview for employment contract.

Hi,
My maid had gone back to indo for her home leave for a month. When she tried to make her ktkln card in Jakarta, she was being rejected as she does not have the agreement endorsed by the Indonesian embassy. I called up the indo embassy here, but they cannot do anything, only advising me to inform my maid to appeal. I had asked around and the info I got was that the maid will be fined at the airport abt $100-$200 without the ktkln before she will be allowed to leave Spore. Any other ways that I could advise my maid on the ktkln?

Hi
Its quite confusing abt this Kktln card. Does it apply to maid who is goin back to indo n then come back to work again?
I renewed my maid's passport on Sept 2011. Now this year in Sept 2012,her WP will expire and insurance will expire in Nov 2012. This Nov, it will be her 2nd year but she would like to work with me for another year. She is a direct maid,i only paid agent to do documentation to bring her in.
Now questions:- When I renewed her passport last sept, shld I infm WP n Insurance side? If yes, I did not, wht shld I do now?
So coming Sept her WP expires, shld I renew her insurance before renewing WP? Or wht shld I do 1st?
Pls advise, really appreciate. Thks.

hi ..

1.renew her wp online, its foc now.
2. call up/go to insurance agency to do the insurance.
3. if your maid, going back indon and will return to sg then your maid will have to do the KTLN card at indon.

make sure u have the contract agreement from indon embassy which u shld be given upon renewal of passport. i was interview when i renew the passport.

4. KTLN card can be done only in indon which need to produce
1. contract agreement
2. work permit
3. passport.

its stated in the brochure that making of KTLN its free but when my maid do, she was ask to pay abt $40- $50 for insurance.and its super long queue!

so, if your maid continuing w you and not going back, so no need to do. if go back n return to sg, must do ok?

Thanks Mama Annie
So which means I renew her WP online 1st then renew her insurance? While applying for WP,do they need the insurance policy number?
And the card, even if my maid is a direct intake means i employed her straight frm her village, when she goes back home for a break, she still need to do the ktln card over there?
The contract agreement is the one we get when we renewed her passport? She must bring back to her village this doc for ktln card?

Shimmers,

if i remember correctly i did wp first.

As long the indon person works out of indon, he/she must have ktln. So,your maid still have to make the card as during check in at indon airport, they will ask for it.

yes, thats the agreement. your maid have a copy n employer have a copy. so, she bring her copy to indon.

photocopy of her passport and work permit is also needed.

I just renew my maid's WP online 2 weeks ago.
Need to do buy insurance 1st, then the insurance company will send in the details to MOM, only after that can you do the renewal online. When you do renewal online, tick the boxes and pay $20, the system will give you a date to go pick up the new WP at Tanjong Pagar. Bring your maid's passport, old WP, the insurance policy, the renewal notice and your own IC. Go to unit 06 to check all documents and surrender old WP, then unit 05 to pick the new WP. The whole thing took me 30 minutes.

Just FYI.

Now onto apply home exit for my maid (Filipino), trying to find out how to do it myself, anyone care to share your experience? TIA

Hi,

Just renewed my indo helper's ppt and WP.

Her WP expires 5/7/2012 and ppt June 2013.

I applied a new ppt for her first (given 5 yrs ppt), then buy the insurance incl. the security bond from NTUC. Final, renewed WP online.

Once u purchase the insurance online, it will be transmitted to MOM. Then u can renew WP online cos MOM need yr insurance policy no. for the helper...

Hopes the above helps!

Shimmers,
You can renew the insurance and WP as soon as you receive the letter from MOM. I got the letter about 2 months prior to WP expiry date.

Anyone knows how the $7000 performance bond to Pinoy embassy works? It's so annoying that we have (pay) to sign a stupid contract given by the Pinoy embassy plus take a $7000 bond so our maid can go home for holiday (home leave exit permit).

Dear all Mommies,
You can get a pro-rated maid levy rebate when your maid goes back on home leave. After she returns to Singapore, submit to CPF online, login as Employer using your Singpass ID & password. You need to upload a copy of the passport and I think boarding pass ticket stubs. Processing time may take about 2 months.

Hi Shimmers,
The WP renewal process is very simple and efficient here. Before renewing, make sure the passport is still valid for almost 2 years or more. Better 2.5 years. The insurance co. will transmit the info to MOM within 2 working days. Then you go online to renew WP and pay using credit card. Then by same day or next day, it should be renewed. Then you go to Tanjong Pagar Complex to collect the new WP card bringing the relevant docs and old WP.

Yes, she can go home and return before her WP expires. As long as she has her work permit with her, she can enter Singapore. Better to renew when she is back. You don't want to waste your time and money to do up everything to find she did not come back.

My maid told me KTLN card can be made upon arriving at JKT airport and some other airport / places. Your maid should apply upon her arrival, then collect later or when she is returning to Singapore. Just ask your maid to enquire from other maids who have just returned to Singapore. They will know. The process is not complicated but must produce the required documents.

Her passport also need to have a sticker (issued by Indonesia embassy here) to indicate her address of employment. Without this, she will need to pay for some tax upon exit at the Indon immigration when returning to SIN. The sticker can be applied at the embassy here. Need to fill out a form and provide copies of WP,etc. You can check at the embassy website.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

my php maid joined me in May 2011 and contracts end in May 2013. However, her passport expired in Nov 2012. Agent is charging at $386.50! Is there anyway we can go to Php embassy and renew?

Thanks, Jen

Hi Jen,

I am facing the same prob.sad to say within the first 2 year, you must get an agent to renew :-(
. This is because php embassy need an endorsed contract and that can only be generate from the agent only. and my agent push the cost citing the maid know they have to pay themselves as it is their personal item. No idea how will my maid reaction be. sigh... I took for granted that maid passport expiry date will always be after their contract end date but I was wrong. They are independent.

Hi Kristle,

i already submitted online to apply E-passport for my maid. My PHP colleague said it can be done. Shouldnt be any problem, it's only renewal? Anyway, just trying my luck.

For work permit, MOE can extend 2 more mths BUT after that, they must go back without any extension or renewal.

This is the long email from the embassy...

Your HSW will need to present a valid employment contract, authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, together with her other documentary requirements in order to renew her Philippine passport. You are, therefore, advised to process the authentication of her employment contract before she applies for the renewal of her passport.

Information on and requirements for the authenticated employment contract are available on our website at http://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/labor/hsw/employment-docs/. If you have employed your HSW for less than two (2) consecutive years, you are required to secure the services of an employment agency accredited with the Embassy to process the employment contract on your behalf. A list of accredited employment agencies may be obtained from the Embassy's website athttp://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/labor/employment-agency/.

If you have already completed a two-year contract with your HSW, and are applying for the renewal of the contract, you may process the verification/authentication of your employment contract yourself. You may apply for her Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) at the same time you apply for the verification of her contract. A list of the requirements are available athttp://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/labor/oec/.

Please be informed that only applicants with confirmed appointments for passport renewals may be processed. To avoid inconvenience, the Embassy recommends that your employee secure an appointment for passport renewal prior to proceeding to the Embassy.

The complete list of requirements for scheduling an appointment for passport renewal are available on our website at http://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/consular/passport/application-renewal/. Please note that you may submit the request for an appointment by e-mail or in person at Window 9. The consular fee for passport renewal is S$102.00 in cash. The Embassy does not accept NETS, debit or credit cards.

If your employee urgently needs to renew her work permit, please advise her to inform the encoding officer during her appointment that she will require an endorsement letter for MOM. A letter will be issued to her after her passport details and biometric information have been encoded.

As a passport with at least six (6) months' validity is a standard requirement for international travel, and as it takes approximately four (4) weeks to process an application for passport renewal, Filipinos in Singapore are advised to renew their passports at least eight (8) months prior to expiry to avoid inconvenience. Your employee's current passport will not be collected or cancelled until after her new passport is released.

Thank you for writing the Embassy.

Hi,

I have a filipino maid going back in this coming Dec 2012. she has work for me for 18 months and I have agreed to let her go back home early before her current contract ends next year Mar 2013.

How do I renew her passport, work permit, insurance etc... without going through an agent.

I had already booked her air ticket round trip but her passport is expiring soon next year Mar 2013.

Any advise?

Hi All

Appreciate your kind advises here.
My Indo maid contract expires 6 March 2013. She has 15 days home leave in the contract. She does not has the KTKLN card. Her WP expires 6 March 2013 and her passport was renewed in 2012 already.

If we decide to renew her contract, what are the steps to take?

Should I plan her home leave period to be last 2 weeks of Feb? so that I got 2 weeks allowance to renew her WP after she returned Singapore?

She don’t have KTKLN card now – how to apply for her or she can only DIY herself at Indo airport? Hers is Surabaya.

When she returned, I need to purchase insurance ? Assuming I purchase from NTUC income, the cheapest I get is $194.74 right?
http://www.income.com.sg/insurance/foreignmaid/index.asp

Then, I just need to renew WP online?
http://www.mom.gov.sg/services-forms/Pages/wp-online-fdw.aspx

Is that all to renewing her contract? Any other paperwork to be processed?

Another question I have is she wants to carry cash home or is there safer way to tt money home? She don’t have her bank account yet and is using her Uncle’s bank account. She is worried that they will take all her money and she returned penniless.

Personally, I would think it is not ideal for a maid to take home leave at the end of her WP contract. She might have problems coming back. If it were up to me:

First, ask if she wants to go for home leave. Give her a choice that if she doesn't go back at the end of contract, she can go back during the Hari Raya (which might be more meaningful); or end of the year (which you might be on holiday).

Second, instead of going home at the end of the WP contract, I would get everything renewed first, and this is the process:
1. Renew insurance
2. Renew WP
3. Goto Indonesian Embassy in SG to sign a FDW contract. At the moment, this service is free. Employer or adult from the same household to be present at an interview where salary and number of off-days will be asked and written down on contract.

When your maid is back in Indonesia, she needs to go to their local MOM office to get a KTKLN card issued. This is COMPULSORY, without which they will not be able to return to SG. To issue this, they need to produce (1) Valid Work Permit; and (2) Signed FDW Contract from Embassy. This service is charged a small fee.

When finally at the airport during their return, they have an additional airport tax. This changes from time to time but it would be wise to remind your maid to have cash with her until she is safely on the plane. Many predators lurk in the airport waiting for unsuspecting FDWs!

You may wish to withheld 1 - 2 months pay to cover your costs - in case the maid does not return. But when she does, she will be very happy to see 2 months pay in her bank account, instead of having spent every single cent in her hometown - people are known to travel from afar to FDWs village, to borrow money, claim a loan, etc etc so often times FDW really ends up penniless by the time they reach airport.

Hi Frogprincess,

My maid contract will end next May, but i will be out of Singapore for almost 3 weeks end of the year and she had not go back to Indo for almost 6 years, therefore intend to let her go back and spend some time with her family. She will be coming back to work for me again and also extend her contract.

Pls advise if I need to renew her insurance and contract 1st or to wait for her to be back from home leave.

If it is May13 WP expiry, but Dec12 taking home leave, then I think it is okay. You won't need to renew insurance because insurance period is same as WP period.

However, as is the current requirement, you would need to goto the Indo Embassy with her to sign a contract. A good time to go is 8:30am. It will be done within an hour (you can leave); then she wait another 1hr to collect. Or, you can go back another day to collect. It is a fairly straightforward process.

If her salary is below $450, you should go NOW. If her salary is above $450, then you can go anytime before she is due for home leave. Reason? New rule will kick in Oct/Nov 2012 which states min salary as $450/mth.

She will need to produce both her contract as well as the WP; plus her passport to get that KTKLN card done. She should do this at the main city where her flight arrives at (the day she arrives); and not wait till before departure. Sometimes, the office might be close, or long queue, etc.

Thank you so much for the info. Her salary is $450 so i think i dont have to do it now. Noted and i will remind her about the KTKLN card.

Hi Jen,

Have you managed to renew your maid's passport?

My maid (Filipino) is with me for less than 2 years, and she wants to renew the passport herself, don't know whether it's ok.

Please advise. Thanks!

Hi Ashley,

just download the form:
http://www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/wp-content/uploads/forms/consular-epassport-application.pdf

get an appointment date:
http://philippineembassysgconsular.checkappointments.com/

Wait for embassy to reply you to confirm your appt date. Make sure email is working. It doesnt work on my hotmail acc.

My maid did her renewal at $112. She begged the counter staff as she is working here less than 2 yrs. And it went thru. I think it's case by case.

Hi,
Can anyone answer me this:
I saw the following from Philipine Embassy website:
Renewal / Regularization

Original copy of S$2,000.00 performance bond
OWWA
2 original duly signed Standard Employment Contract
3 copies of worker’s passport
3 copies of worker’s work permit
1 copy of medical insurance
1 copy of employer’s IC
1 copy of Job Order duly certified by POEA
1 copy of Philippine agent’s POEA license

Homeleave / Balik Manggagawa

Original copy of S$7,000.00 performance bond
2 original duly signed Standard Employment Contract
2 copies of worker’s passport
2 copies of worker’s work permit
1 copy of medical insurance
1 copy of employer’s IC
2 copies of Undertaking of an Employer

Does it mean we need to purchase the $2k bond and $7k bond if we were to renew the contract and send them for home leave?
I see others post about this $7k bond but no one post about this $2k bond?

Just to share how my filipino helper renewed her passport without going through agency (save me $200+)...my helper just renewed her passport in April 2013. She is less than 2 years with me. Hired her through agent. I went to the agency and ask for all the paperwork which includes POEA which I paid for to bring her in and use it to renew her passport.

Then go to philippine embassy website as mentioned in Jen's post >> download form and get an appointment date. You will get a confirmation of the appointment date via email. Print and bring along on that day.

On the appointment date, bring the documents collected from the agency, medical insurance, work permit, employer's ic and helper's passport.

Eileen, after successfully completed the renewal of the passport, do we need to inform mom or insurance for her work permit and insurance coverage as it tie to the earlier expiry date if her old passport right? Thks in advance
