I delivered my baby girl last year Boxing Day - 26Dec & for a month I had lochia (postnatal bleeding). However, almost immediately after that become yellowish I started having red discharge which is similar to menses. However this menses had been flowing for over 2 weeks already & I'm started to have concern. Is it normal for 1st menses to flow so long? This is my 3rd week & the bleeding is still on. All the way the bleeding is not heavy so only required like change of pad 2-3 a day but it is really irritating to be like having discharge for coming to 2 months. I'm due to see my gynea for a pap smear 1st week of March but not sure if this bleeding is a concern for me to see him earlier. Anyone can advice???

Hi Angela for Malay we belief that our period is for 40 days .. Anything more than that you must see doctor. If no heavy blleding for past 40 days is still consider ok . But if heavy bleeding than must quickly see the gyane.

Hi Angela, I had my period for about 3 weeks after delivery and it was normal as your menstruation had stopped for 9 months during your pregnancy so your hormones need to go back to normality after the birth. But if you are still concern best to contact your gynae for advise.

Thanks for the advice Siti & maybemummy. I was rather concern about this as I asked my friends whom are mummies & they said theirs only last about a week so I start thinking maybe something is wrong with me for having menses over 2 weeks. Anyway, finally it is ending soon...now left with brownish discharge so means finally my menses is ending which is around 3 weeks.:-)

Thanks Evie for your msg. BTW after your 1st menses ends after 6 weeks, how soon does your 2nd menses come? My 1st menses ends the week of Chinese New Year & two days ago I started seeing redish discharge which I take it is menses again. Didn't know it will come back so fast again...sian...hai....:-(

Hi Angela, I had irregular menses for the first 3 mths after delivery. My 1st menses also lasted for 2 weeks. It should be okay, don't worry about it. However, I heard if by the 3rd mth it is not back to normal, u should go see a gynae. Hope this helps :-)

Hi Jubilant,

Thanks for your msg/advice. So far I'm into my 3rd month liao & had went for my pap smear just last week. Gynea said my condition is considered normal so no need to worry too much. Guess it is just irritating that my menses will come on/off so I'm like permanently wearing pads since I gave birth.:-)

Hi mommies,

Can someone give me any advice?
I delivered my baby boy in march, menses lasted about 6 weeks after delivery. I knew that if you continued breast feeding, first menses will be delayed, BUT i actually just breastfeed for 1 month only and stopped. Till now, my boy is turning 8 months soon, still no signs of menses coming. Is it that i'm sick? Do i need to visit doctor for help? Really need some advice..

For me,(full time breast feed) my menses last a week plus. I started taking conceptive pills so my menses became irregular but doc say is normal coz I bf. I know so long I bf I won't have menses so ignore. Till 9mths later I stop my pills and bf I start to bleed alot. Initially I thought was normal till I went to see gynae they give me medication to balance my hormones and also stop my bleed. Doc say I'm luckily that I came back if not I wouldn't be here.
Apple: u should chk with gynae. Btw u got do pap smear.
