Is Paypal really secure to use? I have doubt after conned by this buyer.

I have this buyer who ordered some products from me. I have informed this buyer that I am a Singapore seller and told him that preorder items waiting time is ard 2-3 weeks time. I did ask if he‘s from Singapore but he didn’t reply me but keep asking me other questions. I assume he is living in Singapore.
At first I find it weird when he requested to post the 3 products he ordered individually. I quoted him with our local normal postage. He requested to pay thru Paypal and I am fine with it since is the same. After payment received I ask for his local mailing address. He gave me an oversea address which is at Ireland. I reminded him that I am from Singapore and postage is only enough for Singapore and not Ireland. He requested the cheapest shipping way and I suggested him to use surface instead of air mail. I did inform him that surface shipping needs ard 19 weeks and asked if he’s ok with it. He replied OK and top up the additional overseas shipping fee.

After few weeks later, I told him that I have posted out his order. To my surprise, he reported to Paypal claiming that he didn’t receive his products and said I refuse to refund him. Paypal immediately withdraw the payment from my account and refund to the buyer without further investigation.

I am very upset and wrote in to Paypal. Paypal replied that I do not have a tracking number. I explained to Paypal that this was requested by buyer for the cheapest shipment that’s the reason I do not have a tracking number and even provide all our email conversations.

Paypal just listen to 1 sided story and refund the money. I didn’t expect this buyer is trying to con me. I was trying to be nice to the buyer and complied with his request and even top up additional $3 as I have under quoted the shipping fee. I also gave him a gift. Now I think he is very happy to receive all his “free gifts” from me.

After this incident, I have lost trust using Paypal. Paypal blindly helping all this fake buyers to con sellers.

Be careful of buyer using Paypal especially they request for the cheapest shipping way without tracking number. Don’t be like me so silly, tot nice to ppl ppl will be nice to you.

Hello Summer,

Quite a handful of them fell into traps of those evil people who find loopholes in the system.

I ever came across a site with complaints of Paypal.
http://www.paypalwarning.com/misery_loves_company

Generally, when you are nice to people, people will reciprocate but since we don't deal with people face to face online, this increase the risk of buying and selling.

Hope you will get over it soon.

I had almost fallen into the trap of Paypal before. But luckily, the lady from US listened to my side of the story and the complain was withdrawn. I do agree, Paypal is unreasonable for this sort of one sided favorism.... ANGRY!

Woah that's really unfair. Been using paypal for years so that I dont have to key in my credit card info for purchases and so far no probs (:

Evil people really find loopholes to cheat money huh.

I suppose it is to protect buyers too.
I bought stuff off eBay uk before but items never arrived. And seller refused to reply. So was thkful paypal refunded.

Having said that, agree that paypal shld investigate..

So as a seller now, I always make sure things are sent by registered post..n include in shipping quote.

Just to add on, I also noticed that in uk n US, many of them don't sell to certain countries.. For same reason that many are conmen who do such things..

But thx for sharing yr experience for our lesson

I think paypal protect more of the buyer than the seller's interest. It's good to use if you're a buyer, but not so vice verse.

But anyway, thank you for sharing your experience on this. Will be careful when using paypal.

That has happened to my friend before too.. she was a seller on ebay and a buyer reported to paypal that she did not receive the item she bought even though my friend had mailed it out.. i guess she was unlucky becos she did not have a tracking number on the item she mailed out. if you have proof that you did send the item out.. maybe paypal would do a better job....?

No matter what buyer request, cheapest way, save money la seller better don't care die die must ask them pay for registered mail if not drop the deal. Loose a deal better then make your blood boiled after that and a hole in your pocket.
